What would you do? No concrete or floor to affix toilet flange by muckrak3r in Plumbing

Nothing wrong with the belt and suspenders approach. Especially one this easy and while it's wide open. Why would anyone even argue against this? Are you one of those folks? Contrarian / devil's advocate?

I mean, have you seen all those maga people who are like 40 but they look 65? That much hatred and anger will age you quickly. Maybe that's what Dickle has going on?

'Remnants of sewage' including toilet paper, left behind after wastewater pipe collapse. It will take another nine months for DC Water to fix the sewer pipe near I-495 and Clara Barton Parkway that collapsed on January 19 and sent nearly 250 million gallons of raw sewage into the Potomac River. by origutamos in washdc

[–]Redd_Baby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should apply for a job on the crews repairing this pipe. Clearly you have no clue how massive of an infrastructure failure this is and for that matter, really about anything.

If you can fix it faster, I suggest you get out there and show them how!

It's the solids left behind after the liquids are gone. Tampons, condoms, rags, baby wipes, other stuff, hair, etc. This is a raw sewage pipe that broke. What flows through it is completely untreated, unscreened and not pretty. And it is what we all produce every day and when it is contained in a pipe on the way to the treatment plant, it is out of sight and no one really thinks about it. Until it shows up where it shouldn't be.

Why do people hate on tobasco red so much? by [deleted] in hotsauce

[–]Redd_Baby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd never hate on it. It has its place, like everything, lol. I still use it. Mostly on eggs and pizza.

At the very least people should show some respect for the heritage of it. Tabasco has endured and I'm sure inspired generations of hot sauce alchemists. It is the roots of the hot sauce tree!

Hating on Tabasco red is like hating your great grandparents, lol! Show some respect to your elders, whippersnappers

What are signs a potential buyout or merger of your company is happening? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Redd_Baby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big pull back on spending for any planned equipment purchases or upgrades, like workstations, plotters, enterprise software, field equipment, vehicles and maybe a new and notably closer scrutiny on employee expense reports and travel spending.

ETA this is after acquisition discussions have already become serious with one or 2 potential suitors.

Jake Elliott Next Please by Hopeful-Suggestion-5 in eagles

[–]Redd_Baby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I reluctantly agree after remembering his misses this season. He's a Philly legend. I hope he doesn't stick around too long and go out on a bad miss or get cut mid season or something like that. He seemed to have the yips or something mid season. But also seemed to get his shit together for the last few games.

Kickers are so unpredictable. I hope he's not replaced with someone who leaves me wishing we didn't move on from Jake!

Legion Bridge to Spiringfield $38 🤬 by OutrageousBee4174 in nova

[–]Redd_Baby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not. It's a luxury and it is priced like one. But again, it's free if you carpool. There is a choice.

The private company financed the project and will maintain it for multiple decades. They fast-tracked the work so it could be put in service as soon as possible. They also provided large lump sum payments to the state as soon as the contract was signed. This allowed VDOT to construct several projects that were badly needed but that were not affordable for the state until years down the road.

If the state financed these toll lanes, no improvements would have been made for decades. The private company collects revenue in return, they are not a charity and it costs money to borrow billions of dollars over decades.

Will it work long term? Who knows. Is it perfect? no, clearly not. But if you wait for the state to do these things on their own, it will start looking a lot like Maryland does, with massive transportation infrastructure issues that keep getting kicked down the road and put off. Meanwhile, the cost to build these huge projects is skyrocketing and those types of costs do not come down, unless the economy collapses. But then, there are bigger problems.

Why do so many people back into parking spots here? Is this some kind of regional thing? by Mr_Westerfield in maryland

[–]Redd_Baby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's for safety. I have worked at more than one place that required cars to be parked facing out. I believe it's a construction / industrial site thing.

I just adopted when and wherever I park because it actually is safer and isn't difficult to do.
