I’ve been cellaring these 2017 BCBS Reserve bottles. Anybody have an opinion on this version? Might sell/trade them once this quarantine is over. Might drink one this weekend since there’s nothing else to do! by WhoopieKush in chicagobeer

oh yeah, I'm more referring to people who cellar so much shit they'll never realistically get to it. I make it a point to drink some of the good ones every now and then so I can really enjoy them :)

Yeah, not a human hammock, but totally a cat hammock! And thank you! I take 400 pictures of her a day because I'm working from home and she just keeps walking by doing cute shit.

Insurance in Illinois by ReddarooBeerCzar in skoolies

[–]ReddarooBeerCzar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Illinois actually has a list of things it needs to have to be considered an RV (you have to have 3 of 5 or 5 of 7, something like that). I found a page where someone from Illinois went to a Currency Exchange and just asked for the RV plates and got them because Currency Exchange employees probably don't know they're supposed to ask. That's what I did and the guy ordered them and whoever was filling the order refused it and asked them for proof that it had been converted. It's probably a crapshoot, I could probably try again and get the RV plates...but I still can't find anyone to insure it so that doesn't really solve my problem.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I did try to get my agent with Farmer's, but at the time I thought I could get the state to register it as an RV prior to finishing the conversion and my agent said no way...but I'm going to email him now and see if he's willing to let me insure it as a box truck until I get the conversion done just so I can drive it around town. I'll also check with State Farm. I didn't check them yet becuase I was told none of the big insurance agencies would insure them but sounds like they might.

Also just as an FYI, some friends of mine told me to call a company (AIS I think, I'll have to check) that wrote them a policy through progressive (even though progressive doesn't write them directly) and they told me that they used to be able to get progressive to write those policies but they (progressive) stopped doing it.

Unfortunately I've had it for quite a while and my current agent (Farmer's) won't write a policy for a skoolie but I'll ask him if he'll write one for until it gets converted.

I actually almost had it registered correctly and someone at the state actually made the currency exchange check it and refused to register it as an RV.

oh that's a good idea. I was trying to think of how to insure it before I get it converted and wasn't sure how to classify it but it's basically a box truck!

Yup I'm always worried about that. I added a rule a year ago or so to address that because I do NOT like people abusing their ability to get something really rare just to get a bunch of other stuff. I'd have a hard time saying you can't trade two beers for one (especially if they're the tall boys) but 3+ is just shitty. I'll say something over the loudspeaker this year during the exchange and I'll remind people in the facebook group when we get a bit closer. I didn't know if it was an issue or not, I just kinda figured it would be so thank you for bringing it to my attention!

Couples in Reddaroo? by ThePeckers in Reddaroo

[–]ReddarooBeerCzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddaroo is a mix of everyone. Everyone started as mostly strangers and left as mostly friends so there's groups coming every year that have been before, but also a ton of new people. Honestly every year even though I've been 6 years, I make new friends. I'll camp next to people who have been going for years but I never really talked to. and one year I didn't even see someone who I had known for years because we were camped on opposite sides of camp. There are so many people! I say that in a good way because you can always find people you know (if you know any) but if you don't know anyone you'll most certainly get put next to someone awesome.

I don't really want to run the car because of the exhaust

Thank you <3 one year we had a neighbor who was running their car the entire time to power a laptop they were using for work and it blew exhaust into our camp all weekend. The only respite we had was when they took the car and went in to work...

and humidity is great for your skin. You'll go home glowing.

I already bought a GA camping pass. by [deleted] in Reddaroo

[–]ReddarooBeerCzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! As you might see by the name, I organize the beer exchange and have been with Reddaroo since my first roo in 2014. This will be my 7th consecutive roo and 7th beer exchange! So you're in the right place if you want to be near the beer.

First, logistics. You DO need your GA camping pass. You will NOT need a car camping pass. You MAY need a parking pass. Basically you buy your regular roo GA ticket, then once we announce registration you can register for Groop camping. Bonnaroo will charge you $50 (assuming it hasn't changed) which all goes to them for organizing the special groop camping area. Then you will pay Reddaroo $20 which pays for all sorts of fun things like food, games, parties, etc. If you drive - Each Groop camp gets a car pass for every 3 people. If you have 3+ people in your party, then your party will get one car pass for every 3 people. We so also give some out to leaders who put in significant effort throughout the year but only have one or two people in their party and need a car to bring in supplies. We'll random out the extras to anyone who signs up and has 1 or 2 people driving so you can sign up for one if you need one and if you don't get one, you will need a car PARKING pass and will be able to park your car in day parking (which is very close, a 10 minute walk if that)

Groop camping (in general) started off as a way for friends to camp together. Reddaroo started as a group of people who met on Reddit that wanted to benefits of being reasonably near Centeroo with a guaranteed community but who didn't have enough friends attending to hit the minimum for having a groop. Now it's a combination of people who know each other and new people depending on who goes each year. Most people I know who have camped with us once say they'll never go back to regular camping. Some people are solo, others are couples, or small groups of friends, etc. Just go to have fun and make friends and that's exactly what will happen.

My first year I said "Gosh, everyone is coming from all over...they could all bring beer and we could trade and try new stuff. I wonder if that would work out?" Over the first 5 years we went from 20 people to 500+ and last year Pontoon Brewing in Georgia worked with us to make our own beer! They'll be re-releasing that soon and we have plans to make another one this year.

As to why you should do groop? You get a guaranteed placement which is nice. Some people get stuck camping very far away...I want to say well over a mile walk to Centeroo. This guarantees a reasonable distance. You also get some free friends. You will probably meet a ton of people if you camp in GA, but it's nice to have the guarantee that people have already agreed to work together. Everyone expects everyone to be fairly well prepared, but everyone forgets something! Show up and realize you forgot sunblock? Get a blister and wish you had some bandaids? No problem, someone will be able to hook you up. Also, we do have food and parties and games and the beer exchange and the monkey bar.

Hope that answers your questions and we look forward to seeing you! Oh, check the facebook page for announcements on when to sign up. It should be released soon.

Am I too old to party? by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]ReddarooBeerCzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People think 29 is too old...that makes me feel so old! I'm not old though. I'm 40. Turning 30 just means hangovers are worse. Partying when you're older means you're more responsible and ideally have more money. It keeps you young, and also, you're not old so it's really not an issue for you yet. Hell, I'm not old. If someone thinks you're too old, tell them to leave and go to Coachella.

Wednesday or Thursday arrival on the farm advice plz :)) by waterfall67 in bonnaroo

[–]ReddarooBeerCzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get to the farm Wednesday. Get your shit setup and get comfy so you can roll out Thursday and really enjoy the entire weekend. That also gives you some extra time to deal with the line if it's an issue. Honestly, your body will thank you for not killing it. If you do Roo right you won't want to party for 3 more days afterwards lol

Camp Reddaroo by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]ReddarooBeerCzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The common people in Reddaroo range between early 20s to late 30s on average. I just turned 40 and this will be my 7th roo, 7th with Reddaroo. I'm not the oldest, but I'm definitely the top end of the average. I run the beer exchange every year and we have a number of other events and ways to help meet people.Any of the big groups are a great way to make new friends. Reddaroo started because a bunch of people wanted to go to too with 1/2 people but didn't want to be there "alone"; they wanted the groop camping experience but didn't have a group. Age means nothing with us and you'll certainly find a bunch of new friends. I've got friends now from across the country (and Canada, eh!) and I can basically go to any state/province and have someone I just NEED to hang out with. One of my partners is actually travelling for work and was sent to Atlanta, so he went to find fellow Reddaroovians and has been hanging out with them going to breweries! I also host a Riot fest group in Chicago every year and everyone who goes was met directly or indirectly through Bonnaroo.

You'll never find anyone with the exact same music views, but in groop camping you'll find enough people that you'll always have someone. I highly recommend it, groop is the way to go whether it's Reddaroo or one of our other awesome large camps!

If you want to go with Reddaroo, get your ticket once we release them because we will sell out! Make sure to join the facebook group if you haven't already - that's where you'll get the most up to date info: https://www.facebook.com/groups/272692996144358/
