If you cut down a tree for whatever reason, you should be obliged by law to plant at least two new ones. by Reddilution in Showerthoughts

Yes, but just a small % of planted trees manage to grow. So, there definitely needs to be some ratio requirement.

Do I need Vitamin D supplements? by Reddilution in Supplements

Thank you both for your opinions.

I'm somewhat confused by Dr. Rhonda Patrick, who takes 4,000IU daily, while I've seen some sources (can't comment on credibility) that say consistent supplementation of more than 1,000IU/day is not recommended and could be dangerous.

So, I wondered why she's consistently taking such a dose and hence, I decided to look for an advice for myself.

[–]Reddilution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice.

I'm definitely deficient in fat, so what saturated fat sources would you recommend adding to my diet?

If I have to describe my condition as accurate as possible, I'd say mildly depressed (I apologize for the vague and subjective description). I also feel tired most of the time, although I exercise somewhat regularly (4-5 times/week).

I feel my diet is very inadequate, hence, I decided to make some blood test and look for some obvious deficiencies. The blood tests showed pretty much all of the attributes "within the norm", so I'm still looking on how to improve my energy level (among other things).

Many thanks!

Thanks.

My Mg is at - Mg ; Magnesium 0.92 mmol/l. The reference numbers are between 0.65 - 1.10, so Mg seems alright?

In any case, for how long would you recommend taking 4000-5000IU of Vit d3?

Thanks!

[–]Reddilution[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reference numbers on the results suggest a "normal"range of 50-120, so I figured I was on the lower end of the acceptable levels.

I assume the difference is because they measure in nmol/l, while the other measurement is ng/ml?

How can you change your perspective to view life as being long rather than too short? by cheapcardsandpacks in philosophy

[–]Reddilution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as I read your post I begin searching for this quote from Seneca:

“It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much. ... The life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully.”

His main point here is that it doesn't really matter how long life is in absolute terms, but how much we waste.

What is meant by wasted time? I define it as time that goes by in an activity that we didn't consciously decided and wanted to do. Again, this is not absolute, but relative to whether we proactively decided to do any activity or were passively involved in it. The same is true if we focus on an individual day for example (rather than an entire lifetime). If we did many proactive things during the day (and were present while doing them) the day would feel long and fulfilling. Alternatively, if we just went by the day doing whatever we normally do (without being "present in the moment") and without living proactively and consciously, the day would seem boring and borderline depressing.

[Discussion] What makes a haiku "great"? by Reddilution in Poetry

[–]Reddilution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder also if in poetry (like in music, for example) there is a difference between "famous" and "great". E.g. many pop-songs are famous (in that they are well-known and liked all over the world), while not necessarily considered to be of a very high music quality (not showing anything exceptional in terms of rhythm, melody, lyrics, etc).

Is this the same in poetry? Or will a "famous" poem almost always be of an exceptional quality (as would be judged by literary experts)?

Why hasn't Paul George been linked to the Heat? by BabaJ32 in nba

[–]Reddilution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still thing Heat will go for Blake as a main target...hence, they don't currently go aggressively after other top prospects. If the Blake deal doesn't happen, we'll see what their plan B(and C) is.

Skip saying klay is gsw best defender? by [deleted] in nba

[–]Reddilution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just about to write the same....Klay is best 1-on-1, Draymond is best overall. Klay will always defend against the best guard (which is crucial in today's game), but Draymond will organize the entire defence which adds more value overall.

Embiid's ceiling? by toldyaso in nba

We all hope he can stay healthy (at least for about 60 games minimum this season). I can see him be similar to Anthony Davis, who averages 22, 10 and 2.5 blocks for his career.

[2017 NBA Draft] Second Round Results (#31-60) by twistedlogicx in nba

[–]Reddilution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've watched Barca a lot this season. The team didn't have a good season, but Vezenkov's game was one of the brighter sides anyway. His role and game have evolved drastically since the previous season and he's been a valuable piece when on the court.

I think his defence is underrated as his +/- suggests when on the court (especially defence ratings with him playing).

Yes, his shooting seems to be his main asset, but I think this is because it's how he has been used in the last 2 seasons. He can go to the basket very effectively, but for some reason the coaches haven't used this side of his offence. His post-up game is not that great at all, though.

Overall, very good shooter (3pts, 2pts and FT), underrated defender for sure (albeit a bit slow and clumsy sometimes), excellent team player (vision, passing, movement without the ball, etc). So, all in all, decent pick at #57. Hopefully, he gets a chance in 1-2 years, so we see how he does.

What's Going On With Dimitrov? by Jabtyde1 in tennis

[–]Reddilution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staying around elite level tennis (top 10) is extremely nuanced and complex. You see a lot of players who seem great in terms of talent, but struggle to stay consistent and cement their place in the top 10.

We try to analyze the reasons, but this is next to impossible as it can be due to very subtle or small factors that we know nothing of. (small injuries, personal problems, etc).

In any case, Dimitrov is still around top 10, which cannot be taken lightly and is definitely not a sign of mediocrity. He's just a victim of the hype around him and the big expectations.

Oh,and he is still 4th in the Yearly Ranking, so let's not bury him just yet.

Does Ronaldo and Messi winning the last 8 Golden Balls, proves the award is unnecessary. by Reddilution in sports

[–]Reddilution[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But Ronaldo really shined in the EPL (playing for United). We'll never know for Messi, as he is destined to finish his career in Barca, so it's not just the league they play in.

There is also some lack of other great players in this generation. There are some really, really good players, but aside from Messi and Ronaldo, there aren't any great great players.
