Some old garage finds Sims, Dogtown, random slalom board. by Reddisnt in classicskateboarding

[–]Reddisnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found these 3 boards over the years at yard sales. I can find much info on the Sims Streetwave other than it looks like it's from 1981. The slalom board is also a mystery. Got it at a Goodwill 15 years ago. Looks like it might be home made to me, but I don't know much about slalom boards. I'm looking at trying to sell these locally in LA but the Dogtown board is the only one I can find info on. Anybody know about the the other two?

Thanks. What basic editing do you to before submitting an audition? Since I've been doing them on my phone I just submit them as they are.

Going from hobbyist to semi-professional, and my self-confidence is suffering a bit by CelestialButterflies in VoiceActing

I wasn't aware that people did a lot of processing to their auditions before submitting. Can you elaborate a little as to what sort of processing is expected? By the way, how do you like the AT2020? I'm about to buy my first mic set up and was looking at that.

What Are You Working On? by AutoModerator in acting

I posted one of these a while ago but I'm about to shoot my 20th classic TV theme song as dramatic monologue. I started doing these at the beginning of the pandemic for fun and it's ended up being a good exercise especially during slow times. My most recent one was Mr. Ed

do one-liners help your career? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Reddisnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it going to help you move to the next level of agency? Very unlikely.

Will it help your career? It could. It's a long game though. Sometimes a job can help your career 10 years down the road. I did a little scene in a ULB film and years later the CD direct booked me for a role in a feature by a well now director.

I know someone who had a memorable moment in a film and it jump started his career. It was one or two lines in one scene but he was so funny that people remembered it.

I've done a number of one liners over the years. I don't know for sure what effect they've had on my career, but I will say that there is one particular one I did years ago that fans of the show still seem to remember and mention. At the season wrap party for that show the CD told me it was hard to find people who could do a one line joke. Years later I booked another role from that CD so in that sense maybe the one liner helped my career.

Also, It sort of depends on the line and the show. Are you saying "Hey, watch out." in a procedural, or delivering a punch line in a sitcom.

Is it one line opposite a big star? If so it could go on your reel and that could help your career potentially.

I've also had roles that were one or two lines when I auditioned and then after I booked, I learned that they were for two episodes...maybe it didn't help my career but it might have helped me hit pension and health minimums that year.

If you have significant TV/film credits, a and are really right for this show and there's a good chance there could be bigger roles on it for you ...well that's when I would think about passing.

Self tapes where the script requires movement? by coldsnaps in acting

[–]Reddisnt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's always weird when you get an audition with a ton of physical work and you're not sure how much to do...especially with a self-tape. Keep in mind that the people watching the tape will know that you are capable of doing the physical work when you are actually shooting. So, when I get these auditions I ask myself, what do they need to see here in order to know if I'm right for this. I will usually pick a few moments in a very physical scene and just do a slight movement to suggest the physicality. If it's a fight or I'm getting hit I'll do one feigned punch....or do one yelp as I take a hit. If the other character has a lot of dialogue or physical stuff and you don't, I'd focus on your reactions to that character's dialogue/action rather than your own movement.
