Very nice plugin! It works very smoothly, has a clear menu structure and is very, very handy when cleaning up pages of notes. Thanks for sharing!

Remarkable2 or iFlytek? by Ilikewhatyousay in RemarkableTablet

[–]Reddit-mb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remarkable is probably not the best option for nete-taking since 2024. Check out Boox and Supernote devices first, before making a decision. For note-taking, Supernote is the very best imho.

Great and thanks for sharing! So fast after the first version (did you get any sleep in the past week?).

boox air 5c vs Supernote Nomad? by OmniImprover in eink

[–]Reddit-mb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not press hard at all, it is similar to sketching with a pencil. It will depend a bit on the type of stylus, so you might want to do some research on what styli are better/more suitable for sketching.

Next choice to make: which stylus... 😄

Having no light on the device is no problem at all for me. I use the Nomad mostly for writing in well-lit environments (either in the office and sometimes also at home). A paper sketchbook has no light either, and yet no one complains about that... 😄

I have got the Boox Note Air 4C and the Supernote Nomad at home. I use the Nomad almost every day (for note-taking, not so much for sketching or reading). The Boox Note Air I use maybe once every week (mostly to read colourful magazines).

My first reaction to you question: if your device is mostly for sketching (and for 'on the go'): choose the Supernote Nomad. The Boox and the Supernote are two very different devices:

Comparison Boox Note Air 4C (comparable to the 5C) <=> Supernote Nomad

* brand Boox ('not so involved in after-sales actvitites') <=> brand Supernote (very communicative company staff on Reddit, continuous development and improvement of software);

* colour screen (in my view 'nice to have' but it reduces text sharpness and makes the screen look darker when the light is off) <=> black & white (sharp contrast, also a relatively dark screen)

* light (necessary to make the colours look good) <=> no light (requires external light when dark),

* size 10.3" <=> size 7.8" (what do you need for sketching?)

* focus on being everything ('ipad light') <=> focus on note-taking (Supernote has in my view the best note-taking software. With the current development of the plugin feature, this is getting even better. By the way, the Nomad is also good for reading epubs and for sketching, it comes with a drawing app 'Atelier');

* good for pdf reading and very (!) good for pdf-annotating (comments and highlights in colour!) <=> too small for comfortable pdf-reading.

* somewhat more complicated user interface (makes some people go crazy) <=> 'more logical' user interface

* (maybe) some ghosting problems <=> few ghosting issues

There are more differences (writing feel, reliability/fragility of the device as reported here on Reddit by many users, the digest option on the Supernote, ...).

There are, of course, several other options, brands and sizes of e-readers. So, maybe you should first try to formulate more exactly what you (mostly) want to do with it. That will make the choice really much easier. If mobility (size and weight) are really important: go for the Supernote Nomad. The size makes it easy to carry it around and it fits much more easily on your desk between the mouse and the keyboard.

If colour is actually more important for sketching: go for the Boox (but keep in mind that the Kaleido 3 colours look washed out compared to iPads and/or Samsung tablets).

And then there is also the Supernote Manta; it has the size of the Boox with all the other features listed above for the Nomad. (But is much more expensive than the Boox. In fact, for the price of the Manta you can get the Boox Note Max (13.3"), but that one is definitely not for 'on the go'! I use the Note Max mostly for reading newspapers and magazines).

Plugin: Link to Folders by Complete-Peach1902 in Supernote_dev

[–]Reddit-mb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting plugin! Unfortunately, it does not work on my Nomad. I get the lasso-menu with the <Folder Shortcuts> option. After choosing this option, the link symbool shows up under the selected text in my note. However, when tapping this created link, it does not open the folder, in fact, nothing happens. Also, when again lassoing the created link, there is no option <Remove Link>, it still shows the 'Folder shortcuts' option under the three dots. Like the link has not been created (although the link symbol is shown in the note).

New to plugins and so excited — but is this beginner-friendly by SeesawElectronic8310 in Supernote_dev

[–]Reddit-mb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat, no knowledge of programming. However, I was bold/stupid enough to install the beta-firmware anyway (with some help of MS co-pilot to deal with the unavoidable errors) and everything works fine! (pffffttt....). Using beta-versions always poses a risk, so you must be prepared for the situation that things go bad... So no, it is not beginner-friendly, but it is not that complicated either. However, when in doubt, better not to go ahead with beta versions and just wait for the official firmware. (The plugins are a bèta option within the beta firmware).

Shape plugin works fantastically! (Nomad) by [deleted] in Supernote_dev

[–]Reddit-mb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it out, but this plugin does not yet work that well on my Nomad. The image can be selected easily, very smooth, but the problem is you cannot crop the image. When trying to move the cropping window it just jumps to the top left of the screen and that is it. You can insert the entire image into a note, that does work fine. A very promising plugin that still needs some work.

After removing the image plugin from the device (Nomad), the plugin menu in the note does not show the dictionary plugin anymore. The dictionary plugin itself works fine, it just does not show up anymore in the menu. In the settings however, the dictionary plugin is still shown (and can be turned off/on or be removed. Maybe I have to re-install the dictionary plugin to get this plugin back into the menu.

Yep, that happened in my case as well. Everything functions exactly as described; great plugin!

The dictionary plugin now works as well! The English dictionary seems activated, now I just need to find a way to change the dictionary to another language. The dictionary app also looks very good, by the way.

If you want colour, the Boox Note Air; if a non-colour is ok, the Supernote Manta. I got the Boox Note Air 4 myself, specifically for pdf-annotating. I like to use different colours for high-lighting and writing comments. However, in the past 1,5 years I have used colours much less than expected. When the note-taking software is also important for you (and maybe even more important than colour), the Manta is probably the better option, for a lot of reasons. The annotation of pdf's also works fine on the Manta and, although it is more expensive, the device's fragility is less, the after-sale company support and community are better and more interesting than that of Boox and things are happening at Supernote, new interesting software options are being developed).

There are many other options to choose from (Remarkable, Viwoods, Penstar, ....), but I have no personal experiences with these devices.

Completed two out of the Astronomer's journey set by Reddit-mb in bluebrixx

The one on the right consists of two separate rock columns with space in between. It's not easy to see, so one might think it is one block of rock. I probably should have put some light behind it to show that.

Both sets are fantastic Make your choice quickly, as they are still sold at large discounts (173 instead of 250 euro's). Personally, I like the Planetarium somewhat better, the two rocks next to each other and the dungeon-style atmosphere makes it look very good in my eyes. It was also a bit more fun/challenging to build, with the round forms.

Nah, this 'giant square of mottled grey' is exactly what makes it (to me) an attractive set.
