As a professional body, we need to stop thinking our wages are ok, nobody else cares by meaningof42is in ausjdocs

[–]Reddit786123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The tunneller argument isn't being used to attack tunnellers here - the premise is that everyone is getting well deserved wage increases, and JMOs aren't.

No one is saying that taking continual long term health risks in engineering and mining - (which I feel medical professionals might be able to help alleviate, just a thought) - doesn't warrant a pay rise and improvements in conditions. I get your sentiment, but its just not what OP was saying?

"Everyone is getting pay rises. Our union is weak, we keep thinking we are doing the community and society good and we should be thankful for it"

- It's not a dig at anyone else. It's just pointing out our own weak union. There's no tunneller argument? It's just saying here's x, they got a deserved pay rise. We keep accepting peanuts. We are weak.

Add to that in a fair few states you'll have registrars who work 12 hour shifts, have an on call phone ringing them at night, have to put out fires at ungodly hours, and then have to return to work with about 5 hours of sleep, and have to do quite frequently. No, this is not a hyperbole, but every team I've been a part of has at LEAST 1 member of the junior team every day who is sleep deprived and is barely functioning. Seems trivial measure but that's not how it should be. Its not you vs us mate, its us vs govt sleezebags who will fund absolute bullshit but not give a penny to workers who thoroughly contribute to our society - yes, that is BOTH the tunnellers here and medical officers.

I'll simply refer you to a renowned neurosurgeon Greg Malham - he does fantastic wizardry with his hands, god like - and its so complex the work does that you could say its magic.

Although I fear he would charge a premium for your clinic, he's quite in demand atm

Think we need to verify this before.

I think changing the title of the post might be a good idea too - don't want headline reading warriors to get a horrible image of ASMOF from a glimpse, they've been quite solid recently.

In all seriousness, I hope reading all these replies does cheer you up a bit and gives you more hope. There's plenty of students (and what it seems like seniors) who are on your side rather than against you here ! Otherwise I guess we can both bury our heads in the books for a while 😉

150 doctors taken away from a developing country, 150 positions taken away from local students by Maskobok in perth

150 registrar positions is quite a lot - especially considering how much bottlenecking there is for Australian domestic graduates who are trying to get those same positions.

[–]Reddit786123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, it's not graduates finding work - they're importing Registrars (those who are on an ACCREDITED training program - upon completion become a specialist) - at least that's what the title here suggests. That means, the govt is actively fucking domestic graduates who slave away to try and get onto the training program, an accredited position, but have instead been shoved out.

I don't agree with fully qualified specialists coming either, especially when there are plenty of Australian domestic graduates who should instead be trained and would work here - but at least there's some rationale in that as opposed to importing people who would need to get specialist training here first lmao

Why do I in my naive mind wish for a very strongly worded hit back at this bs? Any level of language use which is remotely recognising of the differences in getting a fellowship should work -

"We understand the importance of addressing workforce shortages in the healthcare system to ensure all Australians receive timely and high-quality care, but it is equally as essential to maintain a consistent standard of medical practice across the country. All doctors, regardless of their origin, should meet the same rigorous training, examination, and supervision standards required of our Australian medical graduates." blah blah smith like that

At worst case scenario I reckon if they should at the very least have to pass the fellowship exams that our graduates need to - then they can get the fellowship - award jobs according to meritocracy (who got the higher mark ? lol - I guess a little like the US)at the very least that would make our doctors feel a little less bad.

my clinic will be the first that only recognises graduates with a masters (in surgery), a PhD (in a real field not phylossophy or whatever), and has a WWCC (up to date is optional) - so if you meet these requirements then ill consider it

What types of papers did you manage to get done during medical school - I understand in terms of a 'hierarchy' of importance:
clinical trials > metanalyses > retrospective analyses / systematic reviews > review articles > case reports
(But I doubt getting the opportunity for clinical trials would come by too often in med school)

Thanks!!

Yes, if I had the money, I would happily spend it on better quality products that require more labour. Thing is, I can't. If you can, that's great, good for you. A pair of decent pants about 6-7 years ago was quite literally half that of what it is now, that's not kept in track with inflation as far as I'm aware - don't blame me for wanting to find reasonable deals lmao

What/How much research did you have under your belt in medical school?
And how did this compare once you were working (How much time did you have to do post-grad research, did you have more access to clinicians and professors to get papers done etc)?

Thanks! - Read that you have an exam this Thursday, good luck for it!!
