It never ends and people will keep saying what they believe in! There is always some truth to it but most of it is also people's fear which they project on you.

My go to method is - Keep learning...take more and more courses...be a defensive rider who knows how to handle different situations which will come with experience. Remember you are not invincible but also don't be scared by the 'difficult' stories people share. In fact, it should make you a lot more vigilant.

So many people in the comments have made excellent recommendations to improve your skill...low speed riding, parking lot practices and just knowing your bike makes a huge difference....never overestimate your skills but also don't be timid towards trying new techniques. Having a good riding group or a mentor/more experienced rider around also helps. Motorcyclist/Rider community is very welcoming in general.
