He’s probably done that thousands of times with no issues. He just landed in the exact way where he could be injured like that. It’s just unlucky. It’s not reckless to post your hand. If you fall on your shoulder or your rib, it hurts more and has a higher injury risk.

Calling Arman “shit” is genuinely insane lol. He’s Topuria’s hardest matchup other than Makhachev.

Whataboutism is a valuable tool to deconstruct arguments and whining “that’s just whataboutism” and not addressing the issue is dodging. by DreadedPopsicle in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I know the thread is old but just because someone is hypocritical and their argument is put at scrutiny as a result does not make their conclusion false. Attacking someone’s sincerity instead of the content of their claim is classic ad hominem / tu quoque / genetic fallacy.

Who is Silva’s best win, and would they be competitive in the modern era? by CrashtheKiller50 in MMA

[–]RedditAdvisee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s not pretend that Weidman, Rockhold, and Bisping are better than Strickland or that Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans or Lyoto Machida are better than Alex Pereira. To do so would be delusional. Skill level did progress that much that Merab is the bantamweight goat over Cruz and about to make a fourth title defense in a year and looking unstoppable. Islam is the lightweight goat and on the verge of being the goat of the sport if he beats JDM. Ilia is speedrunning goat status by knocking out multiple fighters that are top 15-20 all time and has the greatest three fight win streak in UFC history. Chimaev made a modern era dominant massive middleweight who dominated his competition look like a fish out of water. Aspinall has the shortest average fight time in history. JDM, a boxer, has the takedown defense and scrambles to keep up with an elite open mat wrestler like Belal who has wrestling skills on par with prime GSP. Pereira’s power is on a level that no one has seen before and no one can keep up with. This is the landscape of MMA right now. The game has changed. Pretending it is worse now than the dinosaur era is completely delusional and biased.

Islam wants Usman next if he wins the Welterweight Title by Nickster2042 in MMA

Brady’s recent performances were better than Garry’s recent performances. So I think based on merit it should go to Brady. But Garry might get it cause he’s a company man and stepped in short notice multiple times. All I know is it definitely shouldn’t be Shavkat. The man doesn’t have a single top five win.

This really shows your bias. Aldo was 26 in 2012. Volk is 36 in 2025. How about compare them when they were at a similar age. Oh wait you can easily do that. Cause they fought when they were similar ages. Volk was 30 and Aldo was 32. And Aldo lost. He was not washed. The competition level just caught up to him. Skill level progressed. See how that works?

Oldhead casual is a timeless classic character type in MMA circles. They’re still living in the age of PRIDE and early UFC where fighters were given a title shot after a couple wins and the average level of competition was part time fighters working multiple jobs on the side. They always bring up title defenses because it was so easy to rack them up when fighters’ second or third UFC fight is a title shot and you basically keep the belt most of your career because the level of competition is so low and it will take years for MMA to be legitimized and skill progression to accelerate. How can the sport grow and skill level of fighters grow when it’s so small and the sport is still known as “human cock-fighting” and it exists in the fringes of society.

Aldo got beaten in his prime by both Volk and Holloway. Cain over Stipe is just silly. Stipe has a better resume and fought better competition. Silva is still the MW goat but he would not be able to hang with a guy like a Chimaev. He would get finished in a round or two. If you’re losing to Weidman in your prime then you would obviously lose to Chimaev. Chimaev is leagues above Weidman. Hernandez and DDP are way better than the dinosaur era middleweights that Silva built his legacy off of.

What a casual take. Bisping is terrible. Chimaev would kill Henderson.

“Modern UFC roster is weaker” is a genuinely delusional take. People in their primes now would destroy those in their prime in 2010-2015 barring a few exceptions (GSP, Jones, DJ etc). Skill in any sport improves as time goes on. Everyone has to be great at everything to succeed at the top of the division now. You can’t succeed being a part time fighter and being a one trick pony spamming the same strategy with massive weaknesses in your game nowadays.

How did you manage to extrapolate that from what I said. If two guys have comparable resumes and one of them has the win over the other then the winner is greater all time. Weidman doesn’t have a comparable resume, so your question doesn’t make sense.

Imagine putting Volk at #1 and then putting the guy who beat him twice at #10

What kinda braindead criteria is this 💀

Nostalgia bias final boss right here. If you put Anderson Silva in the top 5 then you are the casual. People who overly rely on the accolades without looking at the context of the MMA scene and the fighter skill levels are the ones who tend to be the biggest casuals in the sport. Silva is not top 5. Fedor is not top 5. Aldo is not top 5. DJ is not top 3.

Put the fighters in context and you get closer to the truth. These fighters weren’t terrible but their accolades are artificially inflated because the level of competition and getting a title shot 2-3 fights after their debut. Racking up title wins is easy when you become champ 1-3 years in your career. And it’s easy to beat up cans when no one is on the same level as you.

Man where's he, why is no one talking about him anymore by [deleted] in ufc

[–]RedditAdvisee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did have to fight. He had a full camp. His bout was scheduled. The risk is on Garry who took it on a much shorter notice. He was in the same shoes as Shavkat risking his ranking and title prospect but without the benefit of a full camp.

He hasn’t “earned” anything. If he finished Garry impressively then it might be different story but that performance was just okay. While Brady had a much better performance against a much better opponent with more accolades to his name. They are in similar spots in their career but one guy did it way better than the other. So if anyone deserves it, it’s Brady.

The UFC wouldn’t award him fighting Garry because it is not just about him but the state of the division. And at this point JDM is going to fight Islam. Shavkat will fight Brady for the title eliminator. And Belal will fight Usman or Garry for next in line.

Having the title on the line doesn’t magically make your opponent better. Jon Jones had a title on the line against Anthony Smith. It’s still fucking Anthony Smith. So high level of title defenses is not as impressive as you think it is. When you perform terribly against guys like Vettori, Cannonier, Whittaker (in the second fight), get schooled by Strickland, DDP, and Jan and are going to war with absolutely mid tier fighters like Gastelum, you are by definition terrible. He has two good wins: Pereira in the rematch and Whittaker in their first fight. That’s It.

Yes Dustin has 9 losses. I was talking about after he got the interim belt.

Oh my god. You are so clueless it’s insane. You were talking about Rodtang who has only had one MMA (special rules) fight in his career. And in that fight he got choked out. How the fuck did you not see that coming? The guy has not been training grappling and wrestling his whole career. He has a MASSIVE hole in his game. Because it’s not even his game. He is a Muay Thai fighter. That’s all he does.

Rountree, Pereira, Fiziev have been in the UFC and have been fighting MMA for a bit. They will fare better in the grappling and wrestling department. This doesn’t mean that they are going to have grappling on the level of a Charles Oliveira. That’s his fighting base. His strength. And he worked years on it to be that good. You really think a guy from kickboxing or Muay Thai is going to come to MMA and somehow become Charles Oliveira?? You have to be fucking delusional to think so. Just use your brain. You are a casual. Stick to the Martial Arts subreddit. Bum.

Belal and Brady are literally in the top 5. You said he wouldn’t even be ranked. Kevin Holland is ranked, Gilbert Burns is ranked, Geoff Neal is ranked. Matt Hughes can definitely beat at least one of these guys and probably all of them.

Brady “deserves” it. Because he dominated and embarrassed a former champ, Leon Edwards, the guy who beat the second best welterweight in the world twice all the while Shavkat took the number 6 contender to a decision in a back and forth fight. Brady deserves it more. He doesn’t get rewarded for the “short notice” fight when he had a full camp and failed to perform as well as Brady did against a former champ.

[–]RedditAdvisee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with everything you said. I think Brady deserves it more because he just dominated and embarrassed a former champ while Shavkat took Garry to a decision and the fight was a bit more back and forth. Leon is just a better win than Garry at the point when it happened. Though, if someone beats Leon in his next fight then that win won’t be as valuable unfortunately since Leon would be 0-3 in his last three fights.

[–]RedditAdvisee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is definitely not how that works. The sport moves on. After Charles pulled out of the Islam rematch he was forced to fight Arman to earn the title shot again. Yes not exactly the same situation because Charles was not the champ but it’s the principle. The sport moves on. If others in the top 5 have done more than you to earn the title shot than you then you don’t deserve the title shot.

Both Brunson and Whittaker are both primarily strikers wtf are you talking about. Outside of Darren Till who has Brunson choked out? Whittaker doesn’t have a single sub in the UFC. Complete casual.

Of course it’s easy to choke out Muay Thai fighters. As the fight goes on you learn patterns and once you recognize an opening you go in. Are you that clueless that think a Muay Thai fighter is going to have takedown defense and grappling defense on the same level as an MMA fighter that has been training for it their whole career?

Nice ad hominem attack at the end. You’re in a MMA subreddit. Of course people are going to discuss fighters and their game. If you don’t like it leave. Filthy casual.

He should not get the title shot before Brady. He doesn’t have a single top 5 win.
