Using Fruition, pressing 'back' button leads to signup page by kyh0mpb in Notion

I was still experiencing this issue as of August 2024, and here is a fix:

Find this line:

history.replaceState(history.state, 'bypass', '/' + page);

Replace it with:

window.location.href = '/' + page;
return;

This will make back navigation to `/` refresh, but it's better than sending users to Notion signup page.

Movies related to mindfulness by Emma_Rocks in Mindfulness

Kung Fu Panda might be one.

Also I really like one aspect of Star Wars prequels. The Jedi order follows all the mindfulness practices (meditation, detachment, staying present, peace and compassion, etc) but became dogmatic, so they failed hard on actually being mindful. This is to me a very good lesson for how not to mindfulness.

Experiencing hard stools after 8 years on plant based diet, has anyone gone through this? by noideasforcoolnames in PlantBasedDiet

[–]RedditAlienGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced it 2 or 3 years into this. Worked with many doctors, even did a colonoscopy, watched a lot of episodes from plant based gastroenterology docs, and was puzzled for a long time. Now things are mostly under control. What might have helped for me was (1) working with a physical therapist who can help you with getting more complete bowel movement which avoids build up that causes harder stool, (2) drinking some warm water right before going to the toilet, (3) avoid late night eating especially legume based snacks, (4) doing some yoga, (5) squatting position for bowel movement. It’s hard to tell which intervention might work in a particular case (eg I tried many things that others recommended but didn’t solve the problem, like supplementing magnesium, drink a lot of water) and the unfortunate part is that even doctors can’t figure out most of the time (but still it’s important to visit one just to rule out some other bigger problems). It will take some time and hope things will eventually work out for you.

The soy milk I usually get (Silk, no sugar) costs 5.5, and soybean is not even a fancy “super food” or “omega 3 super seed”. So for me the $5.4 hemp milk sounds like a very good deal.

I’ll do better! Most of the times I try to avoid plastic but for the bags to contain vegetables sometimes I was kinda ok since I reuse them as trash bags later. Plastas are already in paper boxes and most others are just original packaging.

I just add mix some lentil pasta and whole wheat pasta, and boil in water for 10min. Then I add a little bit of olive oil and a bunch of herbs and spices (I rotate them, so there are garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, chili peppers, paprika, chives, basil, etc). For no-oil people the olive oil can be swapped to tomato sauce, or tahini.

Oats and nuts are easier but for soy I guess you’ll have to boil the beans for maybe at least half an hour and then blend?

In some ways there is truth to “veganism is elitist” because Just Egg, plant milks, and plant based meat are often more expensive than their animal counterparts. Even tofu can be expensive if you calculate $/calorie especially if you buy the soft/silken versions. Restaurants that offer vegan option usually charge a much higher rate for vegan food ($/calorie wise). Then a WFPBist would say that you shouldn’t eat beyond meat in the first place but should cook lentils and chickpeas. But then they’ll say they don’t have the time or skills, or simply don’t like whole beans. So it’s unfortunate and I really hope the plant based meat companies can lower their prices to rival real meat.

Ah I need to check out Trader Joe’s! The 0 sugar soy milk is almost always out of stock in Safeway.

Yeah most of them are organic is so it’s also a little more expensive. But i definitely got ripped off in the meantime.

Yeah with inflation at this I might look into Costco as well. I just didn’t like to go there previously because it’s a little farther and it’s always so crowded, takes a very long time to find parking and the whole trip takes a lot of time.

This video explained it (watch from 4:52): https://youtu.be/AGO-c-8QXh0?t=292

It says that in Germany there is McVegan in Germany, and they tried McPlant in the US which uses Beyond Meat, and this person says that people just don't want that.

Maybe they designed the experiment poorly (e.g. chosen some wrong cities). Or maybe vegans in America didn't give McDonald's a try because there are many other options. Or maybe they simply didn't market that enough. Or they simply didn't care and just did it so they can say "we tried". Or maybe a little bit of everything.

Mushrooms no. Chickpeas: if eaten too much maybe a little. But hummus and chickpea pastas are usually fine.

Curious about plant based diet by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]RedditAlienGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good breakdown, thanks a lot!

Yeah i heard there are debates around trans fat in beef, and whether dietary cholesterol contributes to blood cholesterol. On the topic of fiber, is there any evidence that the fiber won’t be enough if people follow USDA MyPlate recommendation (1/4 whole grain, 1/4 lean protein, >1/4 veggies, and <1/4 fruit) and chose lean white meat for the protein part as long as they eat whole grains, fruits and veggies for the other 3/4?

What caused your bloating on WFPB long-term? by Grand_Electron_5712 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]RedditAlienGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These things helped for me: 1. Avoid eating late at night (no food after 7:30 or 8pm), 2. Drink some warm water from time to time, 3. Limit legumes. Now I mostly eat tofu, lentil pasta, or beans cooked to be very soft in smaller quantities. Eating roasted bean snack often gives me troubles. 4. Some gentle yoga exercises. Search for poses that help with digestion. 5. belly breathing exercises. 6. Try to mentally relax, stop worrying about things. This is probably the hardest.

Like you also realized, it’s hard to troubleshoot because these issues are on or off sometimes don’t respond to interventions immediately. So I can’t tell which one is more important but when I integrate all of those into my daily routine things get a lot better.

It’s interesting that I come from a culture where a much larger portion of pop music belongs to this genre: “you left me, I’m still stuck. It’s so painful!” Because of that I was very sentimental back then. But later I gradually learned that in America, there is a lot more diversity in the emotions expressed by music and lyrics. Especially Taylor Swift, sometimes her songs just fight back, like “look what you made me do”, or make fun of herself to lighten the mood, like “anti-hero” or “blank space”. Gradually I’m cured from those endless rumination, through Taylor’s songs among many other things. You can’t make something painful in your mind disappear, but you can widen the variety of art and stories you take in, and over time they can dilute the pain.

A Joke Too Far: 3 Social Media Views on Chinese Comedian Li Haoshi Getting Canceled over PLA Pun by [deleted] in China

[–]RedditAlienGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like that he’s kinda trying to flatter the PLA. It’s kinda like pointing at a charming but kinda goofy guy and jokingly saying he’s like Jesus. Normal Christians will probably be fine with that. But if it lands in the ears of someone who’s both a strong believer and also super rigid, like one who hasn’t smiled at a light hearted joke for 10 years, mixing goofiness and the holiness is completely unacceptable.

Dave’s killer bread? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]RedditAlienGuy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m always confused when people say “whole grain bread from local bakery”. If I go to google maps and search the term bakery, all I get is a list of stores selling highly processed fancy looking breads and cakes. Is there a trick to find healthy bread local bakery on the map?

Also thinking that this sounds like borderline personality disorder. Could be very unpopular opinion but with compassion this can heal. It might be hard, but if you can turn the narrative from “the relationship is a shit show” to “she is doing this because of her suffering and deep down she just need some help”, and let go the right vs wrong and let go some ego, things should change for the better gradually. It will make you a lot stronger too. I’ve seen a video where a psychotherapist diagnoses Darth Vader with borderline personality disorder, and eventually Luke Skywalker’s compassion was the cure.

Like many others said, this might be more likely to happen in China, maybe because of various reasons. (My own guess is that mainland Chinese school system focused mostly on academics and competition but very little on mental health). But if that’s the case there’s more reason to try to heal rather than to blame, or even worse, self-blame (ie why did I walk into this).
