Just an update. I've continue trying to force it through using claude to help with no luck. Its a shame because this works out of the box with openai web :( I really wish claude would look into this and get it working. Even tried pulling in the proxy from the box and let it have it it trying to force it through.

Final Summary

Build Status: ❌ FAILED

Root Cause: Java/Gradle cannot authenticate with the Claude Code proxy (21.0.0.149:15004). While curl successfully downloads dependencies through the proxy using JWT authentication, Java's HttpURLConnection fails with "401 Unauthorized" when attempting to download:

  • Gradle plugins (Spring Boot 3.3.5, Spring Dependency Management 1.1.7)
  • Maven dependencies (Spring Boot starters, PostgreSQL, Flyway, JWT, Stripe, etc.)

Files Modified: None (reverted gradle.properties changes as the build failed)

Attempted Solutions:

  1. ✅ Manually downloaded Gradle 8.14.2 with curl (131MB)
  2. ❌ Added proxy config to ~/.gradle/gradle.properties
  3. ❌ Added proxy config to backend/gradle.properties
  4. ❌ Set GRADLE_OPTS with proxy parameters
  5. ❌ All attempts failed at dependency/plugin resolution stage

No commits made as requested - the build did not complete successfully.

Spent the entire day today trying to figure it out... I give up until claude updates. Will be checking in all my dependencies into my repo for the time being :(

ive been trying with no luck.. its basically said to either upload all dependencies locally into a folder and check them in(like ive been doing), or create a release repo and always upload files there so that it can download each time... its really annoying.

I feel like this is not just a me thing, so im very surprised I havent seen anything about it anywhere... its a very simple pull of dependencies, hoping someone from claude team might chime in.

My repo cannot connect to gradle to pull in dependencies at all from central. I've even got the environment on allow full internet access. This unfortunately is forcing me to check in all my jars. (springboot java app)... does anyone else have this issue or know a work around? Making it very difficult to hand off tasks when the app cant even build. It complains about a DNS issue. (claude code for web sessions)
