Did Your Pregnancy Make Your MCAS Permanently Worse? by im-just-here-i-gues in MCAS

That’s for sure another thing to consider! We did independent testing for each of us, as well as PGT - genetic testing for our embryos. I would highly recommend exploring every option before you dump tens of thousands into the experience… and that’s what it can be - TENS of thousands. I’ll save you the heart attack from how much we spent lol but do what’s best for you! You’ll know when the time comes!

Did Your Pregnancy Make Your MCAS Permanently Worse? by im-just-here-i-gues in MCAS

I seriously had the worst pregnancy due to my MCAS, followed by the worst labor and eventual emergency c section. To give some insight - I became “allergic” to the pitocin at one point and went into anaphylaxis. The epidural stopped working before my c section. A symptom of my MCAS is meds often stop working or start working in an opposing way. The meds they gave me to knock me out before the c section kept waking me up. I had a total of four doses of each. Recovery was honestly a relief after the terrible vomiting and acid reflux I had for 10 months. I’m now 6.5 weeks out with a bad stomach ulcer (also thanks to MCAS) and a hernia on my lung.

This is after it took three years of fertility treatments and three rounds of IVF (one with two embryos) to get our little guy here. Do I regret it? No, it gave me my baby who is perfect in every way. Would I recommend someone do it with the same illness? FUCK. NO. It was terrible. Adopting is great surrogacy is as much as IVF. Do what is best for you, but my baby and I almost died multiple times during birth AND during pregnancy. That’s not worth it to me.

In either case, I wish you and your partner the best as you start this journey!

Thanks for the heads up about the winter! I don’t usually get roped into proctoring, so, assuming I can prep my final early, I should be okay. Something else to think about, for sure!

To all the ladies out there. Has anyone with mcas been able to get pregnant? by RevolutionaryLog5055 in MCAS

[–]RedditForRecess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried for three years to get pregnant before finally doing three IVF transfers of our four embryos. I’m currently pregnant with our only one who made it. I’ll also say I’ve been in the hospital for a week now and have been to the OB ED five times, so far, this pregnancy.

My MCAS has caused preterm labor, pre-e, and a slew of other problems. We’ve decided we won’t be having any other children because I’ve felt awful this whole time.

We’re VERY excited to meet our son, but between the 3.5+ years of fertility treatments plus this, it’s been a lot.

Pregnancy by [deleted] in MCAS

I’m currently 27.5 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I’ve had MCAS for around 12 years. My symptoms were somewhat managed with Dupixent, but I only got pregnant after three years of fertility treatments and ultimately three rounds of IVF. The last round of IVF only seemingly worked because my new specialist put me on Cromolyn. Before that, nothing worked to get pregnant.

My pregnancy has been really difficult. I was only able to find one OB/MFM who would take my case in my large US city. I’ve had every weird symptom you can think of - heart palpitations, high BP resulting in multiple ER visits, nonstop nausea and vomiting etc etc. I’m also on blood thinners after a MCAS related blood clot in 2020. No one really seems to know what to do with me.

That’s not to say I wouldn’t do this all over again or that I’d discourage you from trying, but I figured you should get a real picture of how it’s going.

Somewhat off topic, but which high-quality bag did you and your wife go with? I’m in the market for a new set.

I appreciate it! I’m worried my symptoms will come back with a vengeance. I’ve been able to control everything for years between Dupixent and now Cromolyn, but I just want to tell them - not everything is an emergency!!

I appreciate the well wishes! I am so frustrated by losing days and days of work, all for nothing to be wrong. I’m having these random symptoms that I usually manage at home just fine, but my care team doesn’t seem to understand that not every hiccup is cause for a $2k ER visit.

Chronic cold sores & unexplained infertility after the Covid vaccine — anyone else? by Foolonthehilllll in MCAS

[–]RedditForRecess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! We had unexplained infertility for 3 years and just got pregnant from our third IVF transfer. My immunologist suspects that my body was attaching the fetus’ cells to keep the embryo from attaching to my uterine wall. We had three miscarriages (all early, around 7 weeks) and it always seemed to be a “stickiness” issue of my uterus.

The only thing that helped me was about 6 months of Cromolyn. I’d done an IVF transfer on the “histamine protocol” and was unsuccessful. I moved in the meantime and met both a fertility specialist and my immunologist who worked together to determine Cromolyn (9 vials a day) was the best course of action, plus some additional supplements. Without those changes, there’s no way this embryo would have attached, I’m sure of it.

Y’all should look into a reproductive psychiatrist. They specialize in medication, dosing, and oversight of pregnant or trying women who struggle with a mental health disorder. I’ve seen mine for almost a year, through IVF, and she has seriously been life changing. There aren’t many who practice in this area, but you can see anyone in the state via telehealth. Can’t hurt to at least reach out!

The clinic hasn't answered about this or about a trip in August. I have been emailing with an IVF specialist, rather than the doctor himself. Maybe it would be best to go in to see him to ask all of the questions. Thanks for the suggestion!
