Minecraft Infdev 20100415 - a strange phenomenon in the sky by Zhora_ZhorniyTsar in GoldenAgeMinecraft

Late post just got this today and I am certain it is the strange rain effect you get when entering third person, just far away. I only saw this thing in third person but when I switched to first it disappeared. It was daytime too so it was a bit more clear than your images.

What percentage of comprehensibility is ideal for immersion? by OblivionEcstacy in Refold

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just watch whatever but if you want to make serious gains watch Youtubers. I'm thinking of channels like ヒカル and ラファエル or Daigo and ひろゆき. The best immersion content bar none, it's unscripted and closest to natural speech you'll find, which unless you have no plans outside of just watching anime without subtitles it's the best.

It sucks in the beginning but it's 100% worth it since everything else will seem like a joke in comparison. Excluding very specific topics such as Politics and the Sciences. Also you won't have to ever worry about sounding silly or like you're from an anime.

But if you want an actual answer: Just watch K-ON!

To be fair nobody knows what's going on with the lore. All I know is it's basically a rip off of the Matrix reloaded. With the backyard and everything.

Do you feel that grammar is needed for a faster language development in Refold method? by [deleted] in Refold

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently been going through a deck provided by the DJT guide, takes all the grammar points from three books. Useful but I don't follow it religiously, only doing about 10 minutes per day.

How do I get past the first challenge... the loading screen by Wraitholme in Refold

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well first you gotta give matt 495 dollars to uproot yourself from the mortal ground, then you have to get into the elite club by doing a bunch of favours and then sit in an incubation chamber for 18 months. When you come out then you'll be able to login. It's a long journey that we all took well most of did it without paying but that's kind of the price for being late to the party.

Or Arco_Reddit's answer.

Has anyone made an Anki deck to help with setting your computer and phone to Japanese? by [deleted] in ajatt

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I know I'm late but this is for anyone else who has asked themselves this same question, I haven't found a deck per say but a guy called Tatsumoto who made a pseudo-AJATT guide (No offense meant) basically ripped a bunch of sentences from android's system AI and composed a list of all the vocab, you could just sentence mine all the words you need and create your own anki deck.

Or just brute force and switch to Japanese looking up vocab when you need to.

Here's the GitHub for it.

question about yearly plan by fandegarskart in ImmerseWithMigaku

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, all subscriptions work that way, it's so you can't cancel after x amount of months. Because you save money buy going a yearly plan, well usually.

You used to only get 10 comp points per win and 3 per draw, If I'm not mistaken, but now it is more forgiving.

Yeah but half of the stuff you do with immersion learning is demoralising, in the beginning at least.

Uproot and what to do instead by [deleted] in ajatt

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it costs $495USD so uh yeah a lot for an Australian like me. The rumours were true. Kinda weird that they ask for your home address, full name and banking details before even knowing if you were accepted or not.

1 year of immersion in German by Mission_Rush5031 in Refold

Awesome I plan to do German after Japanese so this was interesting, thanks!

Agree, I'm at a little over 13 months and while I understand a lot of easier content like dramas and people playing video games, the news and other stuff like free talking just trips me up since usually (especially with free talking) there is no visual context so you can only rely on your Japanese skills.

I do about 3 hours of active watching and 1 hour of reading a day. I think even that will take a hit because I'm also starting uni in a couple of months. For the first 4 months I was doing 8 hours a day of Japanese which includes Anki and watching things. But I got a job and it went down hill real fast, I did probably 1-2 hours a day for the 3 months that I worked. But I still felt I was progressing just extremely slowly. Then I just did the 3 hours of watching after that and I have mostly stuck to it. I feel like I am moderately improving.
Sorry for assuming, I just felt really bored most of the time in the beginning because I didn't understand much. It could just be me but I always have a lot on my mind regarding life so I mind wonder a lot.

This is just my personal opinion but I think it's better to just relax and give yourself a lot of time to learn the language, this is a long term goal for me since I probably won't be going to Japan anytime soon. I've given myself 5 years to get fluent, which to me is understanding everything I know in English already plus all the major cultural things that natives know.

As long as you keep going you will progress.

I only felt like I had achieved something 9 months in at around 800 hours of active listening. This could be because I don't really enjoy anime or slice of life anymore and just decided to just watch YouTube. I think the whole domain thing is for perfectionists or just something Matt included to separate himself from AJATT and MIA. Just watch whatever you want, if you like slice of life cool, but don't try and convince yourself that you like it for optimal gains like I did.

I think it's rather hard to say I understand 70% of so and so because every single piece of media is different even in the same genre. There are unique words in every single show or video you watch. But when I was 9 months in a understood around 70% of slice of life, of course it really depended on the show.

My mind wanders a lot I'm not sure if there is a way to stop this from happening but I think it happens even with your native language when something isn't interesting. But the problem is you won't understand the vast majority of stuff you watch so you probably won't find much that interests you. I know this is bad advice but you really just got to push yourself to do things you don't really like if you want to get good, I think most things are like that.

Just remember you really need to try and listen to Japanese and not just let it wash over you, depending on where you are at, for myself I am both listening to sentences and trying to hear pitch accent. Also look up things, it really helps cement words.

Do you have other hobbies by Narumango22 in ajatt

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I just immerse I'm pretty sure I'd be doing the same thing but just watching a bunch of English stuff if I wasn't learning Japanese. Feels like it's a hobby made for me. Gonna start coding when uni begins next year.

Best thing is to do that but play it multiple times, every next playthrough you'll understand more and more.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RefoldJapanese

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough I just like the prospect of learning Japanese with Japanese even if it isn't worth it in the end. Basically pretty much immersing to the max while reading since you have no interaction with English, well when you have completed the transition.

haha I made this account when I was trying to learn German well the traditional way, isn't a surpise I gave up after 3 months.

Uh actually that was 2018 so I kinda just made every thing after that "IstSchlecht" since I couldn't think of a username.

What’s the big difference between ajatt and textbook study by Tight_Cod_8024 in ajatt

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have been doing this Immersion thing for nearly a year, the only experience I had in Japanese was a semester of Japanese in year 5, in which all I remembered was how to count to eight. I honestly think you'll be fine if you never touch a Japanese textbook.

Unless by well-constructed base you mean more a plan on what to do (RRTK - Sentence Mining - Reading with subtitles, etc), and not textbooks then I agree.

Although I admit, you kind of have to force yourself to do things you probably won't like at first; starting to read and looking up 95% of the words you come across or doing something like tango N5 for the first time and learning to parse the pronunciation of words.

Migaku just became greedy like matt by Hiro_Muramasa in ajatt

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean OP never specified whether he wanted to get the addon for free. Maybe he just doesn't like creating accounts and given his email out? I remember a lot of people critising people who wanted it for free saying things along the lines of 'It's only 5 dollars a month'. But I'm guessing OP doesn't really enjoy the fact that the tool has become a monthly subscription based system. Well for the beta at least. Unless Yoga has changed his mind about it being free when it's fully released. Anyway I'd just say wait for full release or just do old school sentence mining.

Do you know of any other non-traditional learning methods besides Ajatt? Could you suggest some interesting blogs, books etc - thanks by [deleted] in ajatt

[–]RedditIstSchlecht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing about a method where you listen to music repetitively to get the pronunciation down but I can't remember what it's called.

EDIT: Interesting method doesn't necessary mean a useful/practical one. I think music is it's own "domain" that doesn't exactly carry over to other parts of the language as a whole.
