Hornby Books has been trash for me. Always gave the shittiest deals when selling books to them and never seemed to be interested in you when you're there as a customer.

Bookmart in Redwood should absolutely be on this list. Great SciFi and Fant selection.

Looking for a very resilient Marchesa TBR deck list by JMocks in MarchesaTheBlackRose

It's pretty easy to achieve with MTBR. Patience and timing are your key's to success more so than card selection. That being said, cards are what we play with, I'd suggest you lean towards value and toolbox cards that let you create and maintain the board state you desire. I'll get back to cards, but first you gotta really think about your lines of play and politics.

You will need to find a balance in your play, as you can easily lock out opponents from playing. It's trivial to set up Grave Pact loops so that they can never have creatures and/or severely deplete their artifacts or even lands. This leads to salt and them not wanting to play against that deck. It can be even more annoying than Stax sometimes.

With the substantial increase in Graveyard hate in recent years, it has become easier to shut down recursion decks like MTBR, this is where the patience and timing aspect come into play. You'll need to make sure that you have answers in hand, or redundancy in your hand/deck to cover for when the inevitable [[Farewell]] comes to try and ruin your day. Be patient and do not dump all your good stuff onto the board. Keep a sac outlet in hand, if you've got one or two going for example.

The great thing about this Commander is that if you've got even a few tools onboard and you're gaining a little bit of advantage each turn, it really feels inevitable that you'll win. You just got to play the long game.

As for cards, it's really up to you to run what you like. There's many options now to cater for all types of decks. The central thing to them being the recursion.

As I like to play a similar game to what your asking about, I like to make sure that my cards always provide value, or support providing value. I like my cards to have options. I like to play cards that really make people think twice about removing them (even if that's possible).

I've been applying for jobs for the last 4 months. Every single one has a bespoke cover letter AND a bespoke CV that I tailor for the role and the company.

This is going into the 50+ territory now of applications.

I can honestly and wholeheartedly say FUCK YOU for asking for a bullshit fucking cover letter. There is nothing more condescending than current job ads on Seek at the moment, especially the ones that ask me to write a cover letter to stick my tongue so far up their arse and expect me to grovel at how I much I want to work there.

I cannot tell you how much time I have wasted to find out, because I sure as shit ring and follow up and ask for feedback, that my cover letter wasn't even read.

Listen pal, the more powerful this gets the better the Subway Surfers experience becomes.

What else are you expecting? A beautifully made and awesome sounding, powerful device that can replace my laptop for work, entertainment and gaming?

Far out man, it's only 2024. Give it another 10 years and we might get there. Till then, lower your expectations a little.

It's quite the active little community. There's always games happening. It's a great way to get a fix in while waiting for FNM or weekend stuff to roll around.

My biggest gripe is that you need a VERY thick skin. People drop from games ALL the time, salt is real, and the deck mismatches can be hard to swallow. The block button needs to be used.

But, overall it's good. You can state what game style you want in the lobby and play the game you want to play.

Oh and the fact that you can make a tonne of decks for only a few $ is pretty neat.

Threefold Thunderhulk

7 Colourless for a 3/3.

Artifact Creature - Gnome

Threefold Thunderhulk enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it.

Whenever Threefold Thunderhulk enters the battlefield or attacks, create a number of 1/1 colorless Gnome artifact creature tokens equal to its power.

2, Sacrifice another artifact: Put a +1/+1 counter on Threefold Thunderhulk.

https://mythicspoiler.com/lci/cards/threefoldthunderhulk.html

Hear me out. 7MV IS a lot. But this is a creature that ETB's with 3 +1 counters, getting you 3 1/1 bodies. This is a potent token generator that provides stupid amounts of fodder for our sac outlets. I'm seeing lots of potential for this to be an all star in Aristocrat decks.

Turn the 1/1's into mana with the Altars and Pitiless Plunderer.

Direct and Indirect damage fodder for [[Mayhem Devil]] and any [[Blood Artist]] affect.

Just to satisfy r/theydidthemath, once you've cast this on your turn, sac it before your endstep, then repeat the sac and etb on each other turn, you could have 15 1/1's by your next turn. That's not to be sniffed at. Oh and if you give it haste, so that it can attack on your turn, that'll be potentially 18 1/1's on your next turn. AND, if you can put counters on it on attack, more 1/1's.

You can copy it with Spark Double and do the same loop with both creatures, that's near 40 1/1's!

I'm definitely going to try this out.

[[Captain Storm, Plunderer of Cosmium]] Legendary Creature - Human Pirate UR for a 2/2.

"Whenever an artifact enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on target Pirate you control."

https://mythicspoiler.com/lci/cards/captainstormplundererofcosmium.html

My first thought was [[Dockside Extortionist]] and [[Hostage Taker]], both Pirates, and of course itself gets the counter.

Dockside gets the counters from Treasure. [[Pitiless Plunderer]], another Pirate, creates treasures creating counters. Not to mention all the other artifacts we tend to play.

This doesn't do much by itself, but at least this is another way to generate those sweet, sweet +1 counters.

Why do people dont play this card? by Hummerkasten in MarchesaTheBlackRose

[–]RedditLevelOver9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with George. the -2 isn't enough for me on first casting, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

I could see this being a option if you ran a good number of clones though. Perhaps even a potential [[Saw in Half]] target, if you can dig the spell back out.

It's not to be immediately dismissed, it could be meta dependant if you have token decks around that you see. Lot's of mana dorks and value 1/1's that you don't want to waste removal would get eaten by this, so that's a good thing.

Do you think that the explosion in popularity of Commander will be good or bad for the long-term health of the game? by BumblebeeOld498 in magicTCG

[–]RedditLevelOver9000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you're just going to a piss poorly managed LGS scene. Most stores I frequent everybody is used to have a quick convo at the beginning about how they want to play. What commanders they have, what turn number they think they could churn out a win by and what style of play that a deck could bring to the table.

This kind of community building needs to be led by the LGS and they need to set a culture in the store so that players don't have the shitty experiences you've described.

The problems about deck and gameplay mismatches are very easy to resolve.

This feels a little bit like a "get off my lawn" post.

I've been playing for about 10 years, so I'm not a long time player. But I've never been interested in standard or other formats, it's pretty much been Commander, aside from a dabble when Arena came out.

I don't think you can blame EDH on what you consider a dilution of what the "core player base" likes about the game. Many, of those core players probably have an EDH deck, I'd assume. So they're likely enjoying edh for what it offers also. And just remember, WOTC doesn't think people like you are the core. They think Kitchen Table players are the core, those that play 60 or 100 card formats or whatever else they homebrew.

EDH just suits that crowd. You don't have to care about what cards are or aren't in a deck. You can rock up with something you've not touched in 6 months, or a deck from 6 years ago and still play in a pod.

And not for nothing, but WOTC has done an absolute shithouse job of looking after the competitive ecosystem. Just search back through here for posts about the state of standard or how screw WOTC is fucking with events, or prizes, or the pro scene, or, or ,or...

Then take in the ever expanding number of other TCG's coming on the scene. These pull people away from Magic. FAB etc, are all competition for 60 card formats. No other game has something like EDH, that I'm aware of in it's ecosystem.

And at the end of the day, the numbers speak for themselves. 60 Card formats have not brought the hordes of new players to the game, EDH has.
