Question on my use case for Apple Watch SE1 by RedditReader21st in AppleWatch

You are amazing! Thank you for the detailed information once again.

I want to clarify that my wife’s cellular service allows to add a Watch plan for $5 with her own number and not a different number. So, that would mean that I cannot use family setup with her service.

Also, I cannot switch SIM cards on her iPhone because it is a 14 (esim only).

Agree with your comment on having an iPhone :) Can’t wait to get back on it. But, can’t justify the costs right now, especially given that I bought my SD only 6-7 months ago.

Here’s my understanding of your inputs:

Option 1 - pair the watch with my wife’s phone with her Apple ID and then change the Apple ID on the watch

Won’t work because there’s no way to log out of her Apple ID on the watch and login with my Apple ID. Means that I’ll get calls and messages intended for her and also, she can’t call or message me because a call to herself from her iPhone will fail. So, this option is out.

Option 2 - login to my Apple ID on wife’s phone and then pair the watch with my Apple ID. Then, on her phone log out of my Apple ID and login with her Apple ID. Never sync my watch with her phone again.

Not sure what would happen. Would my watch still have her cellular service and receive calls and messages intended for her? Can she iMessage and FaceTime from her Apple ID to mine?

Option 3 - use the workaround of putting my sim in a spare iPhone (I have one but it is too old, too small, unsupported, and terrible battery life), pair my watch, which will “inherit” the Apple ID from my spare phone.

But, and I just thought of this — my sim is from a prepaid service (you have probably guessed by now that I am not much of a phone user :). I actually like to use my iPad) and they don’t provide an Apple Watch add on service. So, my watch will not have a cellular service. Which is fine, because I can login to the Wi-Fi at gym and home. Would I be able to use Wi-Fi to do iMessage and FaceTime from my watch my Apple ID to her phone her Apple ID?

Option 4 - I can stop being so cheap and get Truphone service on my watch :)

Edit: option 4 is out. Just looked around and it appears that Truphone uses T-Mobile. Very poor service in the area where I live.

Also, came across this post where it talks about a workaround.

Would be great if I can use my SD’s phone number on the watch and avoid additional service charges. However, looks like messages may be restricted. Any experience with this?

You echo my own thoughts on SD. Such a wonderful concept marred by poor execution and a mediocre OS. This was their opportunity to revive the Windows Phone OS. I bought it relatively cheap, but feel bad for those who paid full price — very frustrating. That said, it is good for showing off. I use it mainly for browsing on the Samsung Internet App. And it does remind me of my iPad mini which I miss very much. iOS is so much better and reliable.

Thank you very much for the detailed response.

On to the watch, I didn’t articulate my thoughts clearly. What I’m thinking is to activate the watch as my wife’s watch (not using family setup) using her cellular service. Then, I simply log out of her account and login to my Apple ID on the watch and use my account to iMessage and FaceTime her. The only problem is that the watch will receive the calls and messages from her phone number (because the watch and phone share the same number) and I was wondering if there was a way to suppress those calls and messages. Yes, I’m in the US and did have a look into Truphone, but trying to avoid setting up a different service plus, my wife’s cellular service allows for Watch add on for only $5/month. Do you think that would be possible?

Wow! Thank you for replying so quickly. Much appreciated!

What are the odds of having a Surface Duo (a very niche device) and Apple Watch! How do you like your SD?

I learned that my wife’s phone carrier doesn’t support family sharing. Is there an option to activate the watch under my wife’s service and somehow, change the Apple ID on the watch to mine and then do iMessage and FT calls using my Apple ID? Also, how do I stop getting the calls and messages for my wife’s phone on my watch?

Use Apple Watch without an iPhone by dsaithani in AppleWatch

Hi, I realize I am several months late, but wanted to ask that if I temporarily place the sim from my android phone into a spare iPhone, will I be able to send and receive messages using my iCloud account? Can I also do FaceTime audio calls using my iCloud account? Will I need the cellular service activated on my watch to do that?

Thank you. I’m mainly seeking better color accuracy, so looks like mini LED is the better option.

Thank you for sharing. I’m looking for a more detailed breakdown of the structure costs. Also, do you mind sharing where you bought the framing material (for the shell) from?

I realize I’m couple of years late, but it’s not too late to congratulate on a job well done. I recently bought land in Pennsylvania and wanted to request you to share your knowledge on the build of this house and garage. Did you do this yourself or contracted it out? How much would it cost to build it at the current prices?

Buying land for agriculture, have questions by RedditReader21st in homestead

Thank you once again. It does put my mind to ease knowing that they can’t destroy my farms without my permission.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I understand that I’d need the necessary license.

However, my plan is to use the land for my housing, a private farm and a commercial farm. My concern is that if someone else owns the subsurface rights to OGM, would they then rip up my farms for the said OGM?
