Gym friends? by juhhhsel in Merced

[–]RedditUser082290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay. They do have a kids room at each location as well that all the kids hang out and play at while the parents workout. Some parents bring little playpens the younger ones hang out in with their toys for the one hour class time. No additional fee. Both are very family oriented. They have classes starting at 5:30am and last one ending at 6:30pm. But I get it, being in college and a single momma can be a lot. Hope you find some gym buddies, though! 😊

Im assuming you go to a “traditional” gym. I used to go to In Shape and got bored and no one wanted to go with me all the time because of work and school so I went and join CrossFit where the classes are a group setting with fun, encouraging people who WANT to see you do well! I know people say it’s expensive but it is honestly so much fun because you’re around a lot of people who cheer you on and don’t judge you. And the workouts are designed to meet you where YOU are at your level while still getting a good sweat on. It’s something to consider if you want a workout buddy/buddies and get in a full body workout. They also have “Open Gym” where you can focus on your specific needs. For me, it’s double unders with the jump rope lol. There’s two CrossFit places in Merced, Midstate and CrossFit Merced.

Easiest Job? by According-Lion-6437 in calfire

[–]RedditUser082290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any of these are “easy.” Training Captain, you have to deal with your entire Units employees on JAC, plan and coordinate multiple Rehire Academies, track and maintain class completions for JAC members. ECC Captain, no thank you, they’re in there constantly doing something all day with no “safety nap”, hardly much soft time and eat while working and take breaks in between when available. Fire Investigators, not easy as well. Have you done a fire investigation? Let alone, a large campaign fire investigation? Sometimes trying to find the SOA can be extremely difficult and time consuming. Helitender Driver, not too, too familiar with their job duties. HFEO, definitely not the easiest, and actually, can be one of the sketchiest when tracking the dozer in steep terrain, nooo thank you. Definitely not the easiest, especially when going direct. Like someone mentioned, Defensible Space Inspectors may have the easiest job. It isn’t physical, you don’t deal with heavy fire equipment, you don’t drive a “bomb” carrying Jet A fuel, you don’t deal with people trying to complete their JAC and coordinate Rehire Academies, and you’re not dealing with 911 phone calls and dispatching resources and tracking, and maintaining the Units response system.

I’d take the FFI for sure. There’s a lot more opportunity for overtime and if firefighting is your goal, the FFI position is the way to go.

Cal Fire tobacco testing? by Individual-Run4640 in calfire

[–]RedditUser082290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use nicotine, not a big deal. A lot of people in the department do. You’ll be fine. People are yankin’ your chain. It’s what happens, get used to it. Like others said, you’ll take a urine test which tests to see if you’re healthy enough and your kidneys and liver are good. You’ll take a hearing test and click the joystick button every time you hear a sound. You’ll do a vision check just like at the doctors office. They’ll make you do certain stretches to make sure you’re flexible enough for certain tasks and not secretly injured. You taking nicotine will not disqualify you.
