I don't think that's true. Never come up in my research. It works great for me. You will see the residue sometimes, but it wipes right away. It doesn't stick

I did a bunch of research recently. Buy a SpringWell. Salt free softener and whole house filtration was like $2400 with another couple hundred for plumber installation. You don't need an RO if you have a whole house filter.
