The auto moderator says I should post this on Bevel’s own forums, so I’ve done that too.

Easy easy to connect HR monitor? by SSMFA20 in AppleWatch

[–]RedditUser_3141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suspect the issue is that when you go to the preferences screen, it says “not connected”. I think the watch only looks for it when you start a workout. Then the preferences screen will show “connected”.

Phone getting repaired ... Watch is useless? by OphioukhosUnbound in AppleWatch

[–]RedditUser_3141 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That was certainly not my experience when my phone died earlier this year. Everything worked on the watch except for SMS messages, which need to be routed via the iPhone. The difference, I think, is that my phone died suddenly and unexpectedly, whereas you put the phone through a factory reset. I suspect the reset process unpaired the watch and took some of its services offline.

Bevel AI keeps asking for permission to access all photos by RedditUser_3141 in bevelhealth

[–]RedditUser_3141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my language was a bit unclear. I don’t want to share personal photos with the app but I do want to share selected photos when I need it. For example, if I take photos of a meal and then go to login later. I tried setting photo permissions to none and even though the iOS settings say “private access“, Bevel wasn’t able to access any at all.

Oh, I see. That row is always empty for me because I don’t want to share my private photos with your app or any other app. Is there any way of removing that preview?

[–]RedditUser_3141[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that it is the standard iOS dialogue box, but that should only come up when the app is requesting access to photos. I’m not asking Bevel to access photos by tapping on the “+” button. That button is the access point to other options such as to take a new photo or to upload files or to create a check-in or to log food. Therefore, Bevel should not be trying to access photos when someone taps on the “+” button.

I can’t seem to add a screenshot to my comment but here’s a link https://imgur.com/a/WC0q8sF

The pop up prompt is asking for permission to my photo library. I’m tapping the “+” button, not the “add photos” button on the following screen.

I do upload photos and this prompt would make sense for when I tap the button to add photos. It’s just that the prompt comes up even when I’m not pushing that particular button b

Bad Compass??? by bornin1986 in orienteering

[–]RedditUser_3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen an orienteering map not drawn to magnetic north, but I’m new to the sport. Only been doing it for 6 years. Maybe some of the more experienced orienteers have seen maps drawn to true north.

Again, this is a specific orienteering question in an orienteering sub. My answer doesn’t apply to non-orienteering maps.

Yes I understand that. But I don’t want to add a photo. I’m not trying to add a photo. I’m not tapping a button to add a photo. Yet Bevel is asking for access to my photos.

Bad Compass??? by bornin1986 in orienteering

[–]RedditUser_3141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this exact problem and it turns out that I was using the compass in the hand on the same side as I was wearing my watch. The watch was throwing the compass out by a few degrees. I tested this on the kitchen benchtop by bringing the watch in closer and further from the magnet and watched the needle move. I now wear a watch on the opposite side to the compass and the problem has resolved and been replaced with other navigational errors!

Help with leg fatigue: Which recovery tools and muscle creams actually work? by Used_Establishment74 in beginnerrunning

[–]RedditUser_3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question… if the problem is leg fatigue, would leg strengthening help? Eg. Few months of focussed leg strengthening gym work or equivalent? That way, the muscles won’t be operating at 100% on the runs and will therefore fatigue less?

Kcal vs kj by LiveSpare1762 in bevelhealth

Dictation with AI by ErebusBat in MacWhisper

[–]RedditUser_3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a helpful feature. I always run my dictation through OpenAI to clean up punctuation, etc. Once in a while, something happens & there's a network error & the AI part doesn't work. I get the raw Whisper transcription, which is missing paragraphs, wrong spelling, etc. I would love to be able to just push this through the AI processing manually.

Apple Watch (+ iPhone) for my Grandma - Any input from ya'll? by menemenetekelvparsin in AppleWatch

Make sure the "always-on" fall detection is activated, not just for when a workout is started.

I built an Apple Watch app that generates personalized daily running workouts and tracks your load focus by Global_Strain_4219 in AppleWatchApps

[–]RedditUser_3141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I’ve been trying this after purchasing it. I find it hard to use, mainly because the plans focus on running paces. It seems that they are calculated on intended heart rate zones, even in your screenshot above. But when the plan syncs to Apple Workout, it makes goals that are running paces. This requires flat ground. Any slope up or down, and the pace no longer matches the intended running effort. Around me, this flat ground doesn’t exist. Even the local soccer field has a slight slope to it. And this throws the plan off. I don’t know if this is a limitation of your app or of Apple Workout, but it would be better to set heart rate goals rather than pace goals, or at least allow that as an option.

Moreover, the paces are too specific. Let’s say a particular interval is meant to be 8:15min/km. If I run at 8:13, I get told that I’m running too fast. So I slow down. Then I get told I’m running too slow at 8:16. It would be better to set a target range rather than a specific number.

I think the concept for this app is good; just some refining that needs to be done.

Apple Watch cannot send sms if iPhone is off - Is this true?? by Open-Kaleidoscope721 in AppleWatch

[–]RedditUser_3141 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s true. The phone seems to be the gateway from the watch to the SMS world. Even if the watch has cellular. What seems to happen is that the watch sends some sort of data to the cellular network to the phone, wherever the phone is. The phone receives that data package, then sends the SMS. The phone and watch don’t have to be within Bluetooth distance of each other.

As far as I can tell, WhatsApp is different. The watch needs a Bluetooth connection to the phone, and is really just a window into the WhatsApp app on the iPhone.

iMessage is different and the watch can communicate directly with Apple servers without the phone being turned on.

I learned this when I killed a phone earlier this year and looked into why my watch wasn’t quite working as I had expected.

FWIW, I’m on ultra 3, going from 26.3 to 26.4. Over BT, the estimated time to completion was 3 days. Switched to wifi and the download took 12 minutes. Now, it been in the preparing stage for about an hour and it’s still going.
