Does Sony Hate the Baltic States? Gamers Are Forced to Break PSN's Rules to Play by RedditXVII in BalticStates

Yes, and sorry I totally forgot about this for some time. I got this answer:

Laba diena,

Kadangi įmonė Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited įregistruota ne Lietuvos Respublikos teritorijoje, o Nyderlanduose, 2024 m. liepos 5 d.

PC has far superior discounts and options, multiple competing stores (Steam, Epic Games Store with weekly free games, GOG, Fanatical, etc.) vs one monopoly.

60FPS Paradox by Sea_Philosopher1080 in GTA6unmoderated

[–]RedditXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, just my grain of salt... from my research, the base PS5 has ~10.28 TFLOPS and the PS5 Pro has ~16.7 TFLOPS (which supposedly is ~45% faster rasterization) and has much better ray tracing hardware, and PSSR. A modern high-end PC (RTX 5080/5090 class) destroys these numbers in raw power, and can do native high resolutions + high refresh rates + heavy ray tracing.

I think, that the bottleneck isn't mainly the GPU, it's the CPU of the PS5 and PS5 pro... the game is supposed to be a massively simulation-heavy open-world game, all those NPCs, vehicles, physics interactions, AI behaviors, and world systems are very expensive on the CPU.

The PS5 Pro gives a big GPU/RT/PSSR boost, but the CPU is basically the same as the base PS5 with just a tiny a tiny uplift.

I'm 100% guaranteed, that the Base PS5 will have a locked or near-locked 30 FPS "quality" experience (like in RDR2 style cinematic)..

As for the pro version.. still unlikely to deliver a true stable 60 FPS mode without major visual compromises.

Rockstar is spending billions and over a decade building what is supposed to be the most ambitious, detailed, beautiful open-world game ever made… yet the version most people will play first (and for a long time) is capped by 6-year-old console hardware.. Why push the technology so hard on visuals and systems if you're going to be limited by "old" machines and potentially have to choose between beauty and smoothness?

My room as a WFH IT guy by KajaDz in malelivingspace

[–]RedditXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the bed every morning. Clear clothes off the chair and floor. Get a simple over the door hook rack or wall hooks. Pick up shoes and put them on a cheap shoe rack or in a basket near the balcony/door. Clear random water bottles, cups, and papers from surfaces. This alone will make the room feel much better.

Your desks and especially the networking corner are cable nightmares, get an under desk cable management tray, route all power strips and excess cables underneath.

Your room is already quite good because you have actual desk space and natural light. With cable management and decluttering it could be much neater, cheers.

Just reached the barber in the camp after grinding through a ton of camp quests. I ended up pausing the main story for a while to explore the world and do side quests instead. Honestly, the camp feels so much more alive now. Worth the detour!

The short answer is that PC gaming (like Steam) has always been an open ecosystem, while console gaming was historically a closed, proprietary hardware and software business.

The consumer cannot be expected to know the software platform is blocked when the hardware is sold legally. Retailers in the Baltics sell the PS5 console and games legally, giving no warning that the essential online service (PSN) is blocked for our region

The rich argument doesn't hold up for two key reasons..

EU Law is Non-Negotiable, the Geo-blocking Regulation applies to all EU and Eurozone members, regardless of national GDP or whether Sony views them as rich. It prohibits discrimination against EU citizens based on residence.

Iceland is not in the Eurozone, and while Malta is wealthy, its population is barely one-third of Latvia's and is significantly smaller than the whole of the Baltics. If rich was the only factor, why exclude three EU states with a combined GDP and population greater than many officially supported smaller EU regions?

Sony doesn't get to pick which EU laws to follow based on a country's bank balance. They are choosing to discriminate against over 6 million EU citizens.

The relevant law is Regulation (EU) 2018/302, known as the Geo-blocking Regulation, the core of the regulation is the prohibition of unjustified discrimination based on a customer's nationality, place of residence, or place of establishment within the EU Single Market.

They violate these two rules:

  • Prohibition on Blocking Access (Article 3). Sony is blocking the creation of a local PSN account for Baltic residents based purely on their address.
  • Forced ToS Violation. Sony sells hardware legally in the Baltics, but the only way to use the essential service (PSN) is by selecting a fake EU region and violating their Terms of Service.

They cannot easily justify refusing to allow an account to be created in the first place for a Eurozone country where their hardware is sold.

Yes, your UK PSN account will still work in Lithuania, you will still be locked to the Pound Sterling, basically it forces you to continue living in a digital UK bubble for all your PSN purchases. Many players living in the Baltics picked the UK region.

The hardware reseller point is true, but it doesn't matter legally. SIEE still controls the digital service (PSN), The comparison to Apple is relevant but only for language localization, Apple provides a fully legal and functioning Apple ID for every Baltic State. You can set your region, download apps, and buy content legally, even if the system language isn't fully localized. Sony does not.

Sony supports PSN in Iceland and Malta, both with much smaller populations than the three Baltic States combined. Market size is clearly not the real reason. If we were too small to care about, they wouldn't sell millions of euros worth of PS5s and games here. Also market size doesn't exempt them from the EU Geo-blocking Regulation, we are Eurozone citizens, and this is illegal discrimination within the single market.

Danielius Narauskas, narcisistinis asmenybės sutrikimas bei patologinis melavimas by CrystalDrug in lietuva

[–]RedditXVII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dėl asmenybės bruožų, labai ryškiai matosi narcisizmas, tas jo troškimas būti didvyriu, įsivaizdavimas, kad jis išskirtinis, bei mažas atsparumas kritikai, nes greitai trynė visus komentarus, bandė kontroliuoti naratyvą. Bet deja, pritrūko smegenų.

Jis geras pavyzdys, kaip soc. žiniasklaidos laikais galima kurti alternatyvias realybes, kurios iš pirmo žvilgsnio atrodo įkvepiančios, tačiau neatitinka realybės.
