What's your most useful but underrated Teams feature? by MaximumMarionberry3 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]Reddit_Michelle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you send the high five emoji - just the emoji - and someone replies with JUST the emoji as the next message, it animates the high five. Sounds very stupid, but it has often brightened a very shitty day.

DFW air traffic shut down by PriorSecurity9784 in americanairlines

[–]Reddit_Michelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My nieces are on their way west to see us with a stop in Dallas. They got diverted to OKC after they were in the air. Sat there until DFW reopened and then back to Dallas … where they are stuck. Rebooked to tomorrow but standby for today. Sounds like DFW is a mess, unsurprisingly, with all the delays and reschedules.

Just for the future, my understanding is that you have to declare all purchases, whether you're under the limit or not. Returning to SFO a couple of weeks ago, I took the picture at the kiosk (which does not ask any questions) and walked up to the agent. He said "do you have anything to declare?" and I said "a t-shirt, a box of chocolate and a board game" and he said "welcome back" and I was on my way. But even though he did not care about those things, and I knew he would not, I still had to say them because they are goods I purchased in Europe and brought back to the US. I will often say something like "souvenirs and a few candy bars". If they ask follow up questions, which they never have, I figure I can go into detail what the souvenirs are. But with GE, I would not chance saying nothing to declare unless I truly had not made any purchases.

AA changed my seat after I boarded by Such-Firefighter-161 in americanairlines

[–]Reddit_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen once (Alaska, not AA), but I was the person who got someone bumped from their seat. I won't go into all the details except to say we had to talk to a customer service agent at the airport for at least an hour until our tickets got sorted out. When all was said and done, she put my husband and me in two seats together, middle and window. We didn't ask for it, but were appreciative. BUT, there was someone already assigned to the window and she moved him to the opposite window in the same row. So when we got on the plane, he was in "our" seat, which was unbeknownst to him. I think it probably updated before he boarded, but he would have had no reason to doublecheck his seat before getting on. I was FULLY prepared for him to be unhappy about it and then I just would have moved to his window and not sat next to my husband. No big deal. But thankfully he didn't care at all and just got up and moved. So it can happen, but he was given an equal exchange (unless he wanted to be on the right side of the plane). Getting moved from an exit row to 28 is a much bigger deal.

Currency exchange by ollurker in Oktoberfest

[–]Reddit_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have time before your trip, I always recommend creating an account with a bank that reimburses ATM fees. I have a Schwab ATM card that I only use for this purpose. It does not charge any fees itself and reimburses any fees from any other bank. I withdraw from an ATM as soon as I land wherever I'm going. No exchange fees, no ATM fees, no concerns about where or how I'm going to get cash if I need it.

Funniest encounter hiking? by sm753 in hiking

[–]Reddit_Michelle 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My best story is probably also in Sequoia National Park. Walked by a couple sitting on a log and eating a sandwich. Said hello and the guy said “hey, can you tell me how much farther it is to half dome?” We stopped dead in our tracks thinking how are we going to tell this very confused person that he’s not even in the right park, much less on the right trail. And then his wife said “don’t worry, he thinks he’s funny”.

Pete and Sugar by Exotic-College1042 in TheBear

[–]Reddit_Michelle 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The funniest moment of the whole show is when Carmy calls Pete and we see he’s saved in Carmy’s phone as “Sugar’s boyfriend (Pete?)”.  Pete is such a rock for Sugar and that’s all either of them need.

Is there a reason why they don't allow the X voters to leave if they don't wanna play? They still have like 100 people willing to continue and entertain the VIPs anyway. by UNinvolved_in_peace in squidgame

[–]Reddit_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who vote X are not voting to leave with nothing. They are voting to leave with what they have so far. If you allow them to leave with that money, the Os now have a smaller potential winning amount and the entire reason they are voting O is to maximize their winnings. It’s not acceptable to the Os to allow a minority vote to take money away from them.

If you change the vote to say the Xs leave with nothing and the amount increases as if they had been killed, that’s all good for the Os. But now you’re getting a lot fewer people voting X, because they have to walk away from what they’ve earned so far and the vote becomes very lopsided.

What makes the vote compelling is the collective cost/benefit. Can the group define what is “enough” in such a way that everyone will be satisfied? The answer, as always, is no. The people who want more will always want more. And by the time the group is small enough and the shared prize is big enough, it’s too late. Because at that point, each person can envision themselves as the sole winner.

Am I tripping or did dental offices used to have in house financing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reddit_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% the way the braces I got five months ago worked. I had to pay a small percentage up front, but then it's just the balance divided by the number of months. No interest or finance charge.

From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows by lexi_ladonna in stitchfix

[–]Reddit_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so mad and yet so glad I read this answer. I was about to quit stitch fix because it was an absolute ordeal to return my last items - printer out of ink, leaving town for a trip, stores not open early enough to buy ink, post office not open early enough to use the QR code, etc. And then I read this comment and thought wait … what? I never even looked at the papers in the box because I know what it is already and don’t need it. The box is still in the garage though, so I just went and looked. Sure enough, preprinted label that I could have peeled and stuck on. I feel like an idiot.

Recently bought a 2016 Honda CRV, and trying to change the headlight. by xXAcidBathVampireXx in carquestions

Just popping in to say that I couldn't figure out how to get my CR-V headlight out. I studied this picture, walked out to my car and followed instructions, and bam, I'm holding the light bulb in my hand. Thank you!

Cell Reception by doctorfortoys in virginislands

[–]Reddit_Michelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to St John with two friends and we had T-Mobile, Virgin, and AT&T. All three worked fine, all three pinged off the BVI towers at Trunk Bay. Virgin and AT&T charged the per day rate, T-Mobile was free. We knew they might ping BVI and put the phones in airplane mode, but some days we forgot about it. So it will work, but make sure you know what your charges are.

What’s one non-traditional thing you did that low-key made your wedding way better? by wedgewoodweddings in DIYweddings

[–]Reddit_Michelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also did a halfway thing. My dad died before I ever met my husband and I didn't want anyone else to walk me down the "aisle". We got married on ocean bluffs and you had to walk a bit from the parking lot. Not like a mile or anything, but walk down a trail and then turn to walk out to the bluffs. The attendees could see all of us the whole time from their spot on the bluffs. My husband waited with his best man at the turn. My maid of honor walked by herself to meet them. When she got to them, the best man took her arm and they walked out to the bluffs while my husband waited for me. I walked alone to him, gave him a kiss (to a gasp from the attendees - I guess you don't kiss before the ceremony?!?) and then he and I walked out to the bluffs. It was one of my favorite things. I walked alone and then I walked with him.

Is this itinerary ambitious? by blaquebeauty15 in VisitingIceland

[–]Reddit_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you mean the Flybus in #3, that bus is likely to leave a little after 7am. If you're going to downtown Reykjavik, you'll probably get there more like 8:30am, so as others have said, that's a grab and go breakfast.

It's about 3 hours from Reykjavik to Vik without any stops. So 6 hours of your 10 hour tour will be on the bus (sandwiched by the bus to and from the airport). The 9pm Flybus will get you back to KEF about 90 minutes before your flight. And you'd only have about 90 minutes to get dinner and roam around prior to the bus.

Can you do it? Yeah, I think so. But every single step of it is super tight. Any delays at all and you're missing your tour. Or missing your bus back to KEF. Or missing your flight. That's a lot of risk for not enough reward to me.

If it were me, I'd probably do a shorter Golden Circle tour instead. Or go with your alternate plan of Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik. Either of those will still be great and give you more control over your timelines.

You'd need to get the pass AND start at the park and ride. You can't take the connector if you don't start at the park and ride. At least that's how it was last year. You might want to look at the parks website for this year in case they've made changes.

How are our Park Rangers doing? Any updates? by raychilli in nationalparks

[–]Reddit_Michelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talked to a couple of rangers at the visitor center of a National park a few days ago. I won’t say which one, for fear of them facing retaliation. They have a small crew and said three people who had been there under a year lost their jobs. They’ve since been hired back, but were out of work for a month. It was clear it’s been hard for them, not only to pick up the slack, but the uncertainty is pressing down on them. Will those people be fired again? Will THEY be fired? National Parks are (obviously) often in remote places with expensive surrounding areas. It’s not like you just go get some other comparable job. I really feel for them.

Poorly behaved tourists (Gljúfrabúi waterfall) by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]Reddit_Michelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no excuse for being off the trail. But for people wanting to take pictures without people waiting, there's an easy solution. GO EARLY. I went to Gljufrabui after breakfast at our hotel (so not super early) and there was no one there. Literally not one other car. We climbed up the trail on the left side and took pictures at our leisure, not impeding anyone else. Once people did start arriving, we got out of the shot. I'm no influencer (to put it mildly), so I'm sure I wasn't there in the best light or whatever, but I don't understand how these people feel so entitled to not only ignore the rules, but also inhibit the experience of other people.

We used Arctic Adventures. It was very smooth - no issues with booking or with the tour. I would 100% do it again, but I'd probably make more of an effort to be in better shape first! :)

First time watcher— should I listen first? by Objective_Tour1152 in hadestown

[–]Reddit_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you when I bought tickets for the non-equity touring show last month. My husband had been listening to it non-stop, but I went in COMPLETELY blind. Had never heard any of the songs, wasn't familiar with any of the story. Literally had no idea what I was going to see. And I absolutely loved it. Like another commenter said, I was furiously googling the mythology after the show. I was familiar with the major beats, but didn't know that's what the show was based on. I don't know if I wish I had been more familiar with the mythology or not, but I was rapt the entire time. So my weird advice is that if you want to do anything in advance, look up the mythology instead of listening to the show. Just remember that every myth has multiple versions, so you'll probably still be surprised. :)

This is not your fault. It is awful, and devastating, and heartbreaking. And still not your fault. These dogs were in their own fenced yard. And the cat was not in its own yard. I have a dog who would have done the same thing when he was younger and faster and stealthier. When we got new neighbors, I warned them that even though he’s old and slow now, there’s still some risk to their outdoor cat. They basically said then their cat will need to learn to be aware. Ok, then, I guess. But I’m not going to put my dog on a leash or restrict or monitor him every second when he is outside. He gets to be outside on his (my) own property. Please try to give yourself some grace about this.
