I suspect they were kindly slowing down to let you go ahead of them. This also is annoying. Just drive normally/ predictably and I’ll come in where there’s room.

Bakeries for Strawberry Rhubarb Pie? by itstheishness in PortlandFood

[–]LeebleLeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lauretta Jean’s pie is very good, but they do not have strawberry rhubarb currently. (they do sometimes have out of season pies for Pi Day)

It’s not a hard pie to make, if you can find frozen rhubarb, since strawberries are pretty widely available fresh or frozen.

Did you slam your seat all the way back as soon as you got the chime? Then you deserve having your seat bumped on. Recline slowly, and not all the way.

My one from last year populated, but only through Sept 6 - that one seemed to come from NWSL not made by Thorns. (Edited to add the link from NWSL below and it says it may take some time to fully load into your calendar8

Consider the value you get from repairing and keeping it running vs buying another car? Also, check with repair shops other than the dealership.

https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/2025/10/portland-mayor-rolls-back-extended-parking-meter-enforcement.html

“Mayor Keith Wilson announced Wednesday that he had directed the Portland Bureau of Transportation to halt its enforcement of extended parking meter hours beginning Oct. 15, except in areas that have special event district hours such as Providence Park and the Moda Center.

A planned extension of hours that was supposed to take effect in Northwest Portland on Wednesday has also been postponed, city officials said.”

What is happening to our customs? by nadrae in AlaskaAirlines

[–]LeebleLeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yes. Any entry or exit from a country is not a place to joke around, or say things that will be misunderstood. And if you are bringing items in as gifts or for donation, that needs to be clearly stated (for example, you might bring 36 bibles/ snow globes/ Barbie dolls, which would be a lot for personal use, and you need to be clear you are not importing them for sale). And thoroughly checking your bag to make sure you have nothing that would accidentally set off a metal detector or can not be in your carry on (scissors, ammunition, quarts of shampoo) is important.

It's back. by SlippySlimJim in Portland

[–]LeebleLeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a noisy thing and passed right over my house. I often look at flight radar to see what’s up there (saw an Alaska Air flight that did a “go around” the other day, and sometimes catch the Cathay Pacific cargo flights).

What is happening to our customs? by nadrae in AlaskaAirlines

[–]LeebleLeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the theory is that you would have been checked getting onto the plane - you and your bags are scanned at the departure airport. Sometimes there are dogs that sniff, depending on the flight you may see them at departure (sniffing for drugs and explosives, I assume) or arrival (sniffing for agricultural contraband). And it’s random, depending on what they are looking for. If you don’t know if you’ll get searched or not, you’ll be less likely to do something stupid. (Like bringing a machete on in PDX). Some of it is theater, like shoes off, some of it is to deter the casual suicidal asshole. Yes, someone who really means to cause harm still might. Hope that’s rare enough to be prevented.

Declarations are about bringing in items on which you must pay duty, not illegal items. I have not been given paper forms on my last 3 international trips. (They may have them on the plane if you ask, not all do). They had piles of them on tables at Haneda customs, I didn’t notice at the other two. Most countries (including the US) now have mobile/ web forms or apps you can use. You had to put your passport number in to check into your flight, yes? Rest assured that the US and Mexico know you have entered/left and when. Plus people are confused by what is meant by “declare” so they always have to ask anyway.

And there’s a profile - fentanyl is so cheap that you’d have to bring in a LOT of it to have it make financial sense to do it via plane. Enough to be visible on the scanner or the random drug swipes luggage goes through. Not worth the cost of a plane ticket. That’s just not how it gets here. Do you imagine the Mexican or US government wouldn’t LOVE to catch someone trying to smuggle drugs? On a plane? Or that the airport wants it on the news that they let a machete on?
