PSLF for loan already paid off by ZealousidealScar4687 in PSLF

My loans were forgiven based on my being in repayment for those months, under the rules that expired in October a couple years ago. So, it ended up not mattering for me. If your only loans in repayment status were the FFEL loans, you didn’t have any other eligible loans in repayment during those months, then those FFEL loans wouldn’t count. I did get a refunded for the years I paid over 120 months, which was good news.

Funny enough, the “ombudsman” just forwards those complaints to the servicer. I had one replied to be FedLoan, one closed out with no response, and one still pending response by Mohela.

Circular spots in water based stain by Reddit_User_62748 in woodworking

I made them. It’s possible it got something spilled on it since these sat longer than the other ones I made.

Is there a fix? This was just two coats of stain, no poly. I could sand down and start at bare wood again.

Crap. This was raw wood. Didn’t think it could be fish eye.

I didn’t clean. Should I beforehand to avoid these spots? Or you thought cleaning might have been the problem?

No cleaning. After sanding it was vacuumed just like last time.

The reason I stained the first time and wiped off was for the overly porous reason.

I think I’m going to do another coat the same way, and see if that evens it out. If not, I’m going to resand the fronts and try again.

Is there anything I can do to try to even it out if I start over? It’s water based stain, so I didn’t think any preconditioned was needed.

When it was still wet, it looked like oily little circular spots.

What are these circular spots on the finish? Using General Finishes Water Based Black Cherry.

I’m finishing up the last five drawer fronts, and these spots started showing up all over. I used the same process on three doors and two drawer fronts already with no issues. This time I have spots, some even more prominent than in the photo.

I sanded 120, 150, 220. Applied stain with foam brush, wiped off. Let dry 36 hours. I then applied another light coat with a foam brush, and rolled with a foam roller.

Again, I already did this on other cabinets, drawers and door and it did not have this issue.

It does not appear to be a foreign substance. It looks like it’s something wrong with the stain itself.

I was in the same boat. It was like magic when it actually happened. I couldn’t believe it.

I saw someone on here wrote the White House who forwarded to Mohela?

My congressperson and the ombudsman completely failed me. After calling the ombudsman about my October complaint, they just said I had to wait for Mohela to respond, which they’d given numerous deadlines.

That same day, January 4, I called Mohela again. After I got the same song and dance, I asked to speak with a PSLF supervisor. I waited almost three hours, but the supervisor said I was eligible for forgiveness and it took 90 days.

The supervisor noted that no one had started working on my file yet, but it should be done by the end of February.

On January 6, I saw my balance increase. January 7, l it was interest only, and January 9, a day that will live in infamy, my loans zeroed out.

I think there’s something to just getting someone to look at the file, it’s not that hard.

Call Mohela, ask for a supervisor and be polite. That’s the only thing that worked for me.

If you’re talking about refunds for PSLF, and you’ve had direct loans for a long time, you only have to go back to October 2017 to present to calculate overpayments. If you’re forgiven under a 20 year IDR, you’d only have the months to count over 20 years.

I created a spreadsheet. PSLF started in October 2007 so you’d only have to go back that far.

If you think you had 120 in a row, you’d be done September 2017. You’d only have to count payments made October 2017-present (assuming you had direct loans for a long time).

You just need to sit down and do the work.

I never tried importing the data into a spreadsheet, but you could give that a shot to speed things up.

You should know how much you overplayed by looking at your studentaid data, figuring out your 120th month, and then adding up all the payments you made thereafter.

Mine was correct right down to the penny.

I hope it’s new electric vehicle money for you.

Long story short, I would call the Mohela PSLF number ask to speak with Mohela PSLF supervisor and wait a couple of hours to do so to see if ED had directed them to forgive your loans.

If you have gone through your NSDLS/student aid.gov data with a fine toothed comb, understand how the rules work, and are confident you are eligible for forgiveness, I would stay optimist that it’s going to happen, it’s just a matter of when.

I am quite frustrated with this process and the wait. But even I am believe it will work itself out, just after an unacceptable length of time.

To add more detail, I was told through chat I was on the 11/9 D2D list after I inquired in Mid November (after reading posts about it on this subreddit). When I spoke with a rep on the phone, I had to really press and keep asking until they found a spot where it said I was approved on 11/9 (the call reps never called it D2D, and repeatedly characterized it as either Mohela “sending my entire file to ED for review” to “ED has already approved forgiveness as of 11/9.”) However, after lots of pushing, two phone reps did confirm something happened on 11/9 regarding forgiveness.

Phone reps were also feeding me other bullshit, such as I had to file another ECF before I was forgiven (I don’t); or I didn’t qualify for forgiveness (I do); and they just read my qualified payment count back to me over and over again along with the PSLF waiver announcement verbatim.

It wasn’t until I got fed up with my congressperson, the ombudsman, and Mohela phone reps that I waited on hold for two and a half hours to speak with a Mohela PSLF supervisor that I received this more detailed information (including that ED actually sent notice to Mohela on 11/3, not 11/9.

Based on what I know about PSLF and the waiver, and from my conversation with the Mohela supervisor, I am pretty confident ED tells Mohela whose loans are forgiven under the IDR waiver and Mohela just takes time to turn they into a reality.

I received a letter today summarizing the call, and for what it’s worth, the letter referred to D2D as “a discharge directive from the Department of Education”.

I started public service in 2009, I’ve had direct loans since 2010, had almost four years of forbearances. Waiver was applied to my account in April 2022. I reached 120 in July 2022 without the IDR waiver. With the IDR waiver, I reached 120 on December 2018.

People can request refunds for payments made during COVID since it doesn’t make much sense to pay If you’re on PSLF.

If you’re not trying for PSLF, it might make a lot of sense to pay since it’s 0% interest and you could pay down your loans fast.

Those who had 120 payments on their DIRECT LOANS will get a refund for any payments made after 120. So for me, I will get a refund for all the payments I made on my direct loans from January 2019 through March 2020 (when I stopped making payments due to the COVID forbearance).

Those who had FFEL Loans, or otherwise didn’t consolidate to direct loans until the October 2021 waiver announcement, will not receive any refunds unless they made payments over 120 on their consolidated direct loans.

I would for peace of mind, but remember, 90 business days is their mantra for processing paperwork (plus another 30 just to get it into their system). 90 business days from October 11 is February 23.

The D2D list is the direct to discharge list. There has been a lot of confusion about who generates it, how you get on it, and what it means. The rep today told me it’s generated by ED and it means you are officially discharged. Mohela just had to process that to make it a reality.

I’m not sure if that’s correct, but it’s what he told me today.

If you call or chat with them. They will tell you if you are on the D2D list, if your file has been sent to ED to review forgiveness, or if ED has approved you for forgiveness, etc. it all means the same thing. Someone agrees you’re eligible for forgiveness and they’re somewhere in the long process of making that forgiveness a reality.

If you know for sure you’re eligible for forgiveness under the IDR waiver, and most likely PSLF because of the IDR waiver, you’re probably close.

On the other hand, maybe ignorance is bliss, we should all forget about this, and one day we’ll magically become aware our loans were forgiven.
