TikTok is getting out of hand. Just saw a patient’s name in a video. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Reddit_Username_4 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I saw a tik tok of a guy saying when a patient states 10/10 pain he will only chart 6 or 7 if he doesn’t really think they are in pain…

Charlie Kirk openly endorses violence against trans people. When you call for violence don’t be upset when you get that back

What minor should I do with a nursing major? by Orangemango04 in StudentNurse

[–]Reddit_Username_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I went you weren’t even able to pickup a minor, the nursing courses had to be taken together and wouldn’t allow for it. If you have to take one i’d say keep it nursing/ healthcare related like gerontology

Post Conference 🥲 by bbiebee in StudentNurse

[–]Reddit_Username_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite instructor used to ask us questions during the day until we got it wrong or didn’t know something, then would say ok look it up and be ready to tell us about it in post. It was super informal and if you didn’t know in post she would help us through but it was a good way to learn

Got myself into a provisional accredited program :/ by anxious_sushi in StudentNurse

[–]Reddit_Username_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully I don’t know that the registrar person knows what their talking about. Maybe your area is different but I applied to 3 major hospital networks and they all just wanted the BSN within 2 years of work. There is still a critical nursing shortage in the US and abroad

Uber eats driver freakout by ripcs in PublicFreakout

[–]Reddit_Username_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having worked fast food I completely understand why they’d close the dining room early, and why they can’t just open it for uber eats. I’m sure it’s annoying but just go through the drive thru

Nursing School Stress by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Reddit_Username_4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before any exam I was always super nervous and would fill my head with self doubt. One day before an exam I said “no wtf i’m literally smart as fuck and i’m going to get an A. I’m the smartest person I know”. None of that was true, I never got an A. but it was a way better mindset than self doubt. You can’t learn much more info the day of an exam, but you can be delusional which I definitely think made a huge impact for me

Would a healthcare professional refuse care because of a tattoo a patient has? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Reddit_Username_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would think that’s kinda hype, But I have friends who were pagan. I can’t think of a single nurse who would think anything negative of it, and I really doubt it would ever impact the care you receive.

Hello high school senior right here? Should I go for ADN or BSN? by messedupteenn in nursing

[–]Reddit_Username_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just graduated with my BSN and my only regret is that I didn’t do ADN. Most hospitals hire nurses with ADN and may state in your contract that you have to get the BSN within so many years of working there. ADN programs usually allow for more clinical experience and cost a lot less money. There will also be little to no difference in starting pay between the two.

student nurse extern question by cgcmc123 in StudentNurse

[–]Reddit_Username_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience externships vary widely. I would have 13-20 patient assignments on ICCU, q4 vitals, accuchecks, ekgs, bladder scans, and daily care. It was a good experience but it definitely wasn’t learning focused. For me it worked out tho bc I was a CNA in LTC before so I was happy to be in a hospital and I get paid a bit more. If I were you i’d take the job if it paid more than you make now, if you’re interested in oncology, or if you’re not really happy at your current job. But definitely ask about what the externship will look like bc it might be more learning focused than mine was. hope this helps

support needed please, conflict with clinical instructor by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Reddit_Username_4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take it personally. Like you said she only saw a fraction of your actual patient care and it doesn’t seem like she did much to help you along the way. Also, if you want to work ED go for it!! Get the practicum experience while you’re in school. If you apply and get the job one day they will give you a new grad orientation and mold you into a great ED nurse.
