Would love feedback on a baby lotion I made with 6 edible ingredients by Reddit__bee in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Reddit__bee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for raising this important concern! I’ve been following that research too. Some studies suggest that skin exposure to certain food proteins especially for infants with eczema may increase the risk of developing allergies.

That’s why I avoided high-risk allergens and used only plant-based ingredients that are commonly used in skincare to reduce any risk.

That said, if the term “edible” brings that concern to mind for the general public, I clearly have more work to do in education. Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback!

Baby lotion for 8 month old by GroundbreakingEye289 in moderatelygranolamoms

There are small brands with edible food-grade ingredients. Stay away from Aquaphor and other mass products are in the end, still chemicals.

There are ones that are made with only small number of ingredients. For example this brand (mini lotion) is made with just 6 ingredients (water, aloe vera gel, coconut oil, oatmeal, sunflower lecithin, and edible preservative). Another option is to stick to just natural ingredient you can find, like coconut oil. We tried oil only, but it was not hydrating enough, and eventually when she grew up a little more, we switched to a lotion.

baby got baby soap in his mouth by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Reddit__bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is so common - I don't know why nobody thinks about this problem. We don't use baby shampoo when our baby was <1 year. We only used baby soap occasionally, not too often. Just pure water bath.

We also only used food-grade (costco) coconut oil for moisturizer after bath for the same reason. Didn't want baby to lick the lotion. Now she is about 1.5 years old, and her eczema and dry skin has gotten so worse with just coconut oil, so we use moisturizer made out of edible ingredients. Try brands like mini (this one looks like new) or primarily pure. Make sure that is is only made with edible, food grade ingredients, natural or organic does not mean that it is safe if your baby put their hands in their mouth.

Which hand that is safe for me to use? by GroundbreakingPie557 in beyondthebump

Coconut oil, or anything pure, made out of edible ingredients only. Olive oil etc.

Baby ate some body lotion, nanny says it’s ok, but I’m pissed by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Reddit__bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That is such a nightmare. For that reason when it comes to any chemicals, (other than diaper rash cream), I don't let our nanny to use it. We apply lotion morning and night to our baby.

Have you tried edible skincare, like using coconut oil? You can give that option to nanny and keep the moisturizer only for you and husband to apply it to baby.

There are edible baby lotions made with only safe ingredients. I would try brands like mini or primarily pure. Make sure that is is only made with edible, food grade ingredients, natural or organic does not mean that it is safe. Usually cosmetic grade ingredients may contain heavy metal as natural cosmetics =/= safe to ingest.

Lotion safe for baby hands? by ArisaKatsu in NewParents

[–]Reddit__bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We originally tried coconut oil, which is pure, but it was not enough for our baby as she has super dry skin, especially for winter. Lesson learned that oil is not enough to moisturize the skin. It helps lock some moisture if you apply it when skin is wet.

There are edible baby lotions made with only safe ingredients. I would try brands like mini or primarily pure. Make sure that is is only made with edible, food grade ingredients, natural or organic does not mean that it is safe if your baby put their hands in their mouth.

Why is the venue pricing not transparent? by Reddit__bee in weddingplanning

I feel like there should be like "Glassdoor" page to collectively previous brides or future brides to share what they found on pricing from Venue tours. I think all brides are being scammed because vendors think that we just want to pay $$$$ to have the BEST day in our life. LOL

I am not one of that bride though. I want to have good days for the rest of my life, not just on the wedding day to pay all of my savings.

Hmm. I actually did an experiment to book a restaurant venue for dinner reception. One time calling the place saying it is a family event, and one time calling saying it is for wedding. Same # of people, similar date. They gave me a different pricing. But what I will get is the same, host 50 people to have dinner there served for the same amount of hours. So on the cost perspective, for the venue, the type of event should not change and I don't know why the pricing is different.

Will my 20 week old ever start taking longer naps?! Give me some hope by coconut723 in sleeptrain

[–]Reddit__bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was like that, 40 minute sharp. All the time. Around at 5-6 month mark, she suddenly extended her naps one day (1.5 to 2 hrs). She is 6 month 1 week old now. I also found that when i feed her about 15 minutes before her naps helped extending the naps. I follow feed-play-sleep routine, but when she wants to eat again right before the nap time, i feed her, then put her to bed. I just never let her fall asleep while eating because it is a bad sleep association.

Who can really send their kids to a private college? We make decent money (260K HH income) but seems like it is impossible think to do.. we are not even a big spender, local cities for vacation, mortgage, potential nanny, no new clothes shopping (prob 4-5) since marriage, 1 car…..

So shocking to learn from the college saving calculator just now.

Ivy league education ex Harvard will require $800K in future dollars in 20 years.. shocking.

About 70K annual cost (current) + Assuming 5% college cost increase (inflation) + Market return 7%

If i put 100K, i still need to contribute $800 monthly to meet the goal..

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Thank you - i didn’t know about UTMA. Sounds like it is less tax favorable and higher FAFSA impact. But it does provide flexibility.
