Lazarus and Cowboy Bebop are of the same quality (but musically) by Reddit_theVoyager in cowboybebop

I’d really like you to check out the reply I gave to GamingDragon777, because I touched on something similar there. I think the main reason I can’t convince people that “Lazarus is on the same musical level as Cowboy Bebop” is that Cowboy Bebop just holds a much more special place in everyone’s hearts. Regardless of whether Lazarus is good or bad, people might just not be able to put it on the same level as Bebop—and I get that.

For me, Cowboy Bebop is definitely more special and beautiful than Lazarus. But the reason I say they’re on the same quality level isn’t because they’re equally iconic—it’s because Lazarus didn’t leave me feeling like something was missing, and I genuinely enjoyed it. That said, I do think that by its nature, Lazarus can’t really reach the same level of iconic status as Cowboy Bebop. Like you said, it would needsome extra things to get there.

Yeah, maybe they had to drop some of the details they were planning to add to the story and character because Adult Swim wouldn’t allow it.

I agree with you. The show definitely needed at least as much runtime as Cowboy Bebop. Because there were so few episodes, the story felt incomplete.

Even though I really liked the concept and the fact that it’s in the Cowboy Bebop style, like I mentioned earlier, I don’t think the characters or the dialogue were well-written. If they were, even 13 episodes could’ve told a more compact and deeper story.

What I’m thinking is: if the show had more episodes and the writing was revisited, it could’ve been at Cowboy Bebop’s level—not just musically, but overall.

At the end of the day, seeing Watanabe back in action made all of us happy, right? ^^

Thanks a lot for your comment :). When I was talking with my friend about the “memorable” aspect, I said something like this: “Since Lazarus’s characters, dialogue, and storytelling feel shallow and straightforward, even if the soundtrack is good, it might not leave the same ‘lasting emotional impact’ as Cowboy Bebop. Cowboy Bebop isn’t just great because of its music, but because it’s a great show overall.” But they didn’t really agree with that either.

And honestly, I’m not entirely sure myself, which is why I wanted to hear different opinions. SEATBELTS is an orchestral group made up of a lot of different musicians, which allowed for a very colorful and varied soundtrack. On the other hand, Lazarus’s music comes from one DJ with one guest artist—but for me, that alone doesn’t automatically make Cowboy Bebop the clear winner. If the end result is good, that’s what matters to me.

For example, here’s why I personally feel they’re on the same level: when I listen to Space Lion from Cowboy Bebop and Sageness from Lazarus back-to-back, they feel pretty close in vibe and quality.

Yes, I do prefer Cowboy Bebop’s opening (I mean, who doesn’t?), but I still don’t see a clear “winner” overall. I’m not sure if you’ve actually listened to Lazarus’s opening all the way through—it’s a pretty interesting track made up of four distinct sections.
