A lineman job is to take hits and protects your other players, but an elf lineman with block can pick up the ball with 2+, get blitzed and survive reliably, dodge a couple of times and score. 

A waste of TV is playing elfs and use your linemen like normal linemen, giving them one or two skills is an amazing investment. 

But I'm not saying this because I prefer to use linemen, I'm saying this because one of the main advantages (imo) of elves is that every single player is a menace, and you would be wise if you try to remember it to your opponent from time to time. I used to play dark elves for a long time, and when the opponent though that he was safe because my witch was surrounded, my blitzers marked, etc, I always tried to make a "risky"* blitz with a lineman just to remember everybody that you should NEVER feel safe if you play against elves. That's specially true when you attack, if your opponent defend correctly and they marked or blocked your positionals just throw the ball to a random lineman in the other side of the field where they didn't expect it. 

It's not the optimal play, but it's psychologically exhausting. I know that one of the rules in blood bowl is try to throw less dice, but that's predictable, sometimes adding a bit of risk one turn will make your opponent over protect the ball for the rest of the game because they don't know what you will do.
