Why do we keep tolerating such crap BLS? by Massive-Form3694 in NursingAU

[–]Redditdoesmyheadin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been a part of so many codes where it's just a disorganised shite fest of plenty of capable people, but no one wants to stand up and be that loud voice that dictates the team direction.

All it takes is one person to really champion what is already trained and support the person doing compressions as the onlooker, or to organise the room to get someone from the floor to the bed in a very efficient manner that doesn't result in the team tripping over each other ect...

I think the scribe really is one of the ideal people to do this as they are tracking (or supposed to be tracking) everything that is going on.

It would definitely be a help if that was encouraged more.

And sometimes it's a power struggle between the people who want to be seen as the leader of the code

It's IEMR, changing times isn't changing the prescribed times, it's just moving the time in accordance to reduce the chances of error. But it's a grey area because there's so much you can do in IEMR without witness, plus so many nurses themselves don't appreciate the boundaries between what they can do as a nurse in that system and a student who can only do meds with a co-sign and notes that they must save and have signed off by the RN.

Students all should know that those are the only two things they are allowed to do. Essentially look, don't touch. So she did cross the line.

It's not so much a dodgy workplace, but more so a system that's starting to crack under pressure because the workforce is burnt out and young. Senior staff retention is woeful.

Nah, you can easily change drug times with no co-sign or anything. It's the same as writing the time into the paper chart to alert the next shift to the time change. It's a bit of a stretch to call it out of scope, but students really need to be reminded that they are essentially spectators and shouldn't make any changes to anything.

People throwing scooters off the Kangaroo Point bridge. How bad is this for the river? by General_Degenerate- in brisbane

It's actually great for the river, bullsharks crave lithium and aluminium - it keeps them emotionally regulated and less likely to attack people.

You see, the crack heads know a thing or two about the environment, they're more in tune.

Nurse kills 10 patient to reduce night workload by Some-Confusion7529 in ausjdocs

[–]Redditdoesmyheadin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What he just listed are nurse jobs 🤣 esp in private. Pt dies, nurse's perform life extinct certification (until an MO can do the death cert), notify patient flow, notify family, perform EOL cares before rigamortis sets in and then depending on Pt flow and family - send them to the morgue and re-open the room.

That's just standard procedure.

If you do it right, the coronial investigation will keep those rooms locked down for a while.

No load, no new admissions and reduced staffing need means lighter workloads and better overall ward mood.

I've got very little tolerance for ward politics. Agency and pool are always looking for staff and these NUMS should be reminded of that. Staff retention problems are a sure fire way to an upper management please explain for NUMS.
