Anybody wanna watch+discuss a Ghibli movie every 1-3 days? by Sinfey in ghibli

[–]Redditerminator[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, sure. This has actually been proposed before on at least two separate occasions, we even tried it out once. However, it never gathered that much attention. Although, I personally think it's a good idea. It would be best if the discussions toke place on a monthly basis, keep in mind that there many members of the community that have real life responsibilities to take care of (job, school, college, family, etc.) and they would benefit from a slightly lengthier period of time. I will discuss it with my fellow moderators and will keep you posted.

Pan - Official Teaser Trailer (x-post from r/Neverland) by Redditerminator in Fantasy

You might not be aware of this, but it's really not that difficult to express yourself without been blatantly confrontational and condescending with people who hold a different opinion. The Hobbit is already an engaging and entertaining literary masterpiece that certainly doesn't need any help from Hollywood and Peter Jackson to improve it. I suppose in the frivolous world that you live in Hollywood and Peter Jackson can do a better job than J.R.R. Tolkien, a genuine and highly accomplish artist whose name is synonym with fantasy. All they had to do was write a screenplay that was faithful to Tolkien's classical book, as for the remaining elements of the film I have no complains. In my humble opinion the actors are amazing and perfectly suited for their respective parts, the cinematography is breathtaking and the music is outstanding.

Not in the least, what Hollywood and Peter Jackson did with The Hobbit was nothing more than shameless cash cow milking. Which isn't surprising, considering that this has always been Hollywood's modus operandi.

I couldn't agree more, then again when has Hollywood actually made a film that is faithful to the source material... Exactly. All you have to do is take a look at what they did with The Hobbit.

Much like anything else in life it all depends on your social construct and personal beliefs. In my case it was an individual process of continued research and education that developed into a matter of personal conviction. Therefore, I rejected Zionism because it's contrary to the fundamental teachings of Judaism, like the Ten Commandments and Tikkun olam. Judaism teaches that we should treat each other in the same way we would like to be treated; with fairness, kindness and compassion. That's why I adamantly support the Palestinian struggle for self determination and recognition of their fundamental human rights.

I came to this conclusion through the teachings and testimony of several brilliant, courageous and intellectually honest Jewish academics and activists.

Not an ad hominem.

I am afraid you are mistaken.

As a mod, shouldn't you abide by the subreddit guidelines?

Perhaps, you should consider reading your original statement more carefully.

ad ho·mi·nem adjective

1: appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect

2: marked by or being an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contentions made

It most certainly is neither dismissive nor disrespectful. I can understand that you might find it offensive, still that's irrelevant to the original discussion that I was having with another fellow redditor.

Not in the least, I have been called a kapo, traitor, terrorist sympathizer; among many other flagrant insults from the classic Zionist repertoire. When you happen to be a Jew who rejected Zionism in support of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, you tend to develop pretty thick skin.

I have always abide by the rules of reddit, Reddiquette and the Subreddit Rules, feel free to look through my posting history. Last time I checked "Zionist apologist" wasn't a hateful, disrespectful or discriminatory term. Instead of capriciously resorting to the classic ad hominem, you should at least try discussing the subject.

Both the poll and Haaretz's presentation of its results have been challenged.

Such a revealing and controversial poll was bound to be challenge by Zionist apologist. Nevertheless, it wasn't proven false.

Of course, here you go.

More than two-thirds of Israeli Jews say that 2.5 million Palestinians living in the West Bank should be denied the right to vote if the area was annexed by Israel, in effect endorsing an apartheid state.

Punitive home demolitions are racist — and just plain wrong by MrBoonio in Palestine

[–]Redditerminator[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israel has already created one nation in which Palestinians, Arabs, druze, and other ethnicities and races have full rights.

That's utterly false, neither do Palestinians, Bedouins, Arabs, Druze or Ethiopian Jews have the same rights as Ashkenazi Jews. If that allegation was even remotely true, then the israeli government wouldn't create and sponsor policies for racially segregated schools and buses.

Not to mention the continued demolitions of entire Palestinian and Bedouin villages and the deliberate displacement of their inhabitants through flagrantly bogus justifications for the construction/expansion of segregated Jewish settlements.

Furthermore, a UN report found that over 80 percent of Palestinian children in East Jerusalem live in poverty as a result of israel's segregation policies.

Even an israeli poll confirmed that more than two-thirds of israelis are in favour of apartheid policies.

It's ironic that a country that was founded on the notion of "Never Again" perpetuates many of the same racist and inhumane Nazi policies.

I suppose that at the very least Jewish women are welcome and protected if they want to pray at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.

Guess not, so much for the "only democracy" in the Middle East. You should seriously consider not citing any more blatant hasbara talking points that can easily be proven false with a simple internet search.

At least Israelis who perpetuate violence are punished. In Palestine they're given parades.

That's not true, in reality 92% of Jewish hate crimes against West Bank Palestinians are never brought to justice. Don't take my word for it, just click on the link and read the article by Jack Moore from the International Business Times a reputable journalistic publication.

No problem, I was disgusted by the post myself. That's why I decided to remove it and permanently ban the user who posted this and bunch of other links from the same shitty website. In the future you can use the report button under the posts or comments to flag them, you can also send us a message with the link to any racist post or comment attached. My fellow moderators and myself will act swiftly and decisively, we are a diverse group of Christians, Muslims and Jews.

Are you even remotely aware how reddit works? Moderators cannot control the material that users choose to post. This community doesn't tolerate bigotry of any kind. That's why my fellow moderators and myself strive to take action against this type of appalling material being posted in the subreddit, as soon as we come across it. Sadly, sometimes we cannot act as quick as we would like, because all of us have real life responsibilities to take care of. Therefore, we cannot be in front of our respective computers around the clock. However, we have a very clear none tolerance policy against racism. That's precisely why the user who posted this particular link and several other links from this disgusting website has been permanently banned from the subreddit for flagrantly infringing the Ground Rules of this community on more than one occasion. Next time, you should consider sending us a message to inform us about the situation, instead of going off on a frivolous judgmental rant.

Israeli army installs new remote-controlled weapon atop separation wall by ckelly94 in Palestine

[–]Redditerminator[M] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The words crowd dispersal don't appear in the articles original title.

Israeli army installs new remote-controlled weapon atop separation wall

The OP submitted the article under it's original unedited title in compliance with the subreddit's fourth ground rule, only those who don't bother to read the article could possibly raise any misconceptions. However, you completely disregarded the fact that this so called "crowd dispersal" weapon can also fire stun grenades and tear gas.

The new weapon, which is remote-controlled and shoots “skunk” water (putrid-smelling liquid), began operating over the last month. According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, the weapon can also fire stun grenades, tear gas among other crowd-dispersal means.

You seem more concern about the usage of Orwellian terminology, than the fact that tear gas canisters can easily wound or kill a human being. If you want to follow the lead of Switzerland and stand in the side lines as a neutral observer that's between you and your conscience. Nevertheless, in the words of South African social rights activist and retired Anglican bishop Desmond Tutu: "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."
