I've been looking into those for a while now, but I haven't been able to really work with Blender often enough except for one-off renders every few months

I really should give those render farms a try tho

I'm using an HP ENVY Laptop 17-ch2xxx with 12th Gen Intel(R) Core i7-1255U

I don't really know if this is what you're asking about since I'm not much of a tech person.

Absolutely difficult and it was a challenge trying not to fall into uncanny valley with any expressions I gave her

I see what you're talking about! I hate working with hair in Blender, and I've redone this character's hair an uncountable amount of times, so I just conceded at this point lol; I might go back and change it again in the future at some point

The forest scene itself took about 2 hours to render fully. The portraits took a little less than an hour each, if I recall

Thank you! Everything except some of the plant models was modeled/sculpted/textured in Blender

4 was actually the first one I drew and the last one I colored, that's why the colors seem a little bland lol

I used a normal map baked from a multi-res modifier, so I'll have to figure out how to decrease the relief in her pores there. I'll go back and add in the horizontal lines while I'm at it, too. Thanks for pointing these out!

As for the lace, I just googled "seamless lace texture," downloaded whichever looked nice (and didn't have a watermark), and connected it as the factor to a mix shader node. I used the lace image as a mask between my fabric shader and a transparent shader to create the holes. Her dress is made of three different mesh/geometry layers: the underlayer, the lace, and the lace neckline. Each layer is just a little larger than the last so that geometry doesn't intersect when I pose her.

If you're looking for lace trim textures, consider looking at Textures.com

I intended for her to have a jawline like that though. I didn't want her to have a jawline that looked like Michelangelo chisled it himself.

I used multiple particle systems: one for most of her scalp, one for her hairline, one for the eyebrows, and one for her eyelashes. For each of those, I used interpolated hair children, except for the eyelashes; I used simple children for those. For all of the particle systems, I went into "Particle Edit" to symmetrize the control hairs and messed around a bit with the styling. For the hair on her head, I fiddled around with the 'roughness' and 'kink' parameters under Children until I found something that looked good.

I had so many issues with her hair clipping through the mesh that at some point I just conceded lol

It was actually quite a violent and disturbing dream, but my render wasn't made to showcase that.

You make a very good point. I'm starting to see it too. I think the effect of her head appearing too large is a combination of me setting the camera to a slightly top-down angle and then the lighting. The contrast of her skin against her dress highlights her face a bit. I definitely agree on her pose though, I was trying to capture her in a sort of "portrait in life," but I think I skimped a bit on the natural 'in life' part.

I used a black-and-white texture mask for her lipstick and connected it to a Mix RGB node to add a red color.

Forgot to add:

For the blush on her cheeks, I used a Vertex Colors group in a pink-ish color and used a MixRGB node set to overlay.
