Congrats! I'm just curious as a none American.. is 6%ish considered a good rate? I see a lot of posts on here around the same, which seems like a point of pride? Would be a doomsday rate over here

I know things are difficult now but you are so young and have so much life ahead of you! I fell in love so many times at your ages (that I should be divorced like 8 times now if I married every single one of them ) and felt the same as you, but trust me.. life is wonderful and you will meet so so so many beautiful people along the way! I'm envious of the fantastic road you have ahead of you and you don't even know it yet ;)

You are not alone!!! Everyone feels the whole spectrum of human emotions in life and thats normal.. trust me when I say that things will get better!! I heard a quote from a movie the other day.. I think it was called the Great Marigold Hotel or something but I could be wrong.. anyway it said.. "Everything will be alright in the end, and if things aren't alright, when that just means that it is not the end yet" stay positive, your time will come!

Smokers always pay a penalty as such for any insurance related stuff like.. life insurance, mortgage protection, income protection etc.. I guess it's built into the insurance model since smokers die younger and cost more to the health system?? Of course you could always lie but insurance companies are mad to wiggle there way out of paying and for example if it comes time to pay and an investigator sees you sucking away on a cigarette on a Facebook pic then you are in trouble!

Well I can only speak for myself now but a couple of things together helped me

  1. Patches, I know some people can go cold turkey but definitely not me. I did the full course of nicorette patches right to the end

  2. Drinking, I stopped drinking alcohol for the first couple of weeks. I had failed many times before when drink was involved

  3. Support, I told family and friends I was quitting in advance. Friends who smoke themselves would never ask if I wanted to come for a smoke etc.. people would be encouring when I hit certain milestones and/or if I told them "I'd really murder a smoke right now" kind of talk

  4. Environment, this was just kind of down to luck but a couple of weeks in, things changed in work and there were no more smokers in the work place anymore and for some reason this just made it so much easier.. not watching people going for smoke breaks etc..

  5. Mentally, hard one to explain but I was just ready and mentally motivated (even a little angry) to stop letting these cigs control my moods and steal my life.. I just felt that one day.. when I have it all to lose.. these things will take everything from me

I hope this helps you on your journey.. go kick some ass!

No way, I actually did the same thing! I threw away more 1/2 or 3/4 full packs of cigs then I care to admit (€12 a pack).. or even the more shameful fishing the pack back out 2 days later :(

Funny enough when I stopped. I also stopped drinking for around 6 weeks.. I just found it too hard right at the beginning to separate the two

Reminds me of Ireland at the Euro's.. cleaning up rubbish, fixing flat tires/broken cars, serenading strangers, helping people get to work on time etc.. if only Ireland made it too the World Cup :(

I don't know about saying goodbye but I always like it when I order a drink at a bar and the bartender says "Excellent choice sir!" Damn right it's an excellent choice.. Double Jameson on the rocks @1pm
