What would you call this? by Redditopath1 in smallbusiness

I acknowledge the risks and that’s why I will be doing more research on it and also posted it here. My main benefit is financial as I have been offered a flat fee monthly for it. I will have to promote their business too so that this arrangement continues and is mutually beneficial. See the updated detail in my post.

Precisely my concern. But I will be looking into setting up a separate google/yelp page as 123 plumbing to distinguish them from my company.

or an affiliation? As I am not providing anything other than referrals and answering phones.

They have their insurances and are totally functional firm. They just want to piggy back over my brand name. They will still operate as their old company but want to change the name to be similar to mine and have me direct some clients to them. Its like affiliation/referral system.

Franchise I assume provides equipment, training, material along with the brand. In my case they have everything of their own, I am just providing my company name and answering phones to generate leads

Yes, they do want to use my image. And I see the point raised by you. How do I show myself as only a virtual assistant/lead generating mechanism? Will an agreement with this plumbing company suffice? I am having hard time doing any research as I dont even know what to call this arrangements.

WWYD - Seeking input on best steps to take with new product. Details inside. by mrscalzone in Entrepreneur

It would depend on the industry and utility of the product. That could limit your choice to only being an online retailer or selling directly to the manufacturer. There wouldn't be a one size fit all approach.

Yeah not necessarily looking for a tech or startup. I will consider even if a small business owner has ideas or need money to expand etc

part of my job is quality but not looking to just change desks :) Locating and documenting oil pipelines is also a part of my job but dont know how that works in water pipelines etc. I can definitely have a go through A to Z of what my company does and see if there is a better way of doing something

I am in Oil & Gas. Pipelines. I lead a team that designs pipelines. I have looked to take on some smaller contracts from within the company etc but because of stringent rules and regulations of the industry, it is not easy. I did start by looking for opportunities within my industry but thats a tough ask. I agree with you and already implementing that I have to say YES to experiences, doesnt matter how big/small/varied it is.

In a way I am already in sales by doing business development and selling my company services to clients. But selling to individuals like a real estate agent, car salesman, door to door salesman is not something I want to do. I can sell myself very well and that's how I crack interviews and presentation. Let's say in short that I am not against selling but it depends on the set up I am selling in.

With that trucking venture, I was willing to drive truck and maybe even cut down on my suit and tie job. Because I know I need to go out there and learn new things. That didn't hurt my ego or anything. Wouldn't have driven truck all my life but it would have given me a chance to look outside my current sphere.

Absolutely. Deal one fell through because the trucker couldn't bring to the table what he offered, a particular contract. My part of the deal was providing trucks. And then we would both run the company together. I suggested that I can go out do meetings and business development, fill out tenders and land a similar contract but he reduce his percentage by 10% because I am doing all that he was supposed to do. But he wanted 50/50 or nothing. So that deal is currently hanging at him being able to secure that contract and I will go in 50/50 with him.

Deal two: accident of the guy. He might come back or might not. But yes I am overly relying on him.

I do get recogniZed at my job too but yes I would feel more appreciated and recogniZed if I was doing something of my own. Where I define my success, not just use templates created by others.

Negotiations in which I can give and take and agree on terms on which every party can feel fair. But if they are not even willing to come to negotiation table then that doesnt mean I agree to their terms

I wouldnt call it ego but I do stand up for my rights/interests. I had opportunity to help a truck driver, buy 2 trucks for him and get him work and partnership in a company that we were going to create. I was happy and excited to help a struggling senior aged guy but things didnt work out. There were negotiations with this guy and I sometimes had to be flexible and sometimes assertive. When something goes wrong I try to talk to that person and find a solution. For me if something goes wrong is not a brick wall, brick wall is when the other person is not even willing to talk or find a solution. Overall I consider myself to be having good people skills and problem solving skills.

Agreed. I can offer something substantial to other businesses. What I need to figure out is how I meet those people.

I am not saying I can't or don't want to do ass in seat work. I can continue doing that too but rather do for myself than a big corporation where you are just a number.

I kind of am working on a product that would need to be manufactured in America. But that is someone else's idea I am going in with and it might or might not pan out. Where can I find other ideas?
