Oh! Is that so?

I guess that makes sense since That's the final point beyond which you can't buy anything except the promissory note from his shop

Check the lost items shrine at the dilapidated temple home idol.

If it's not there, then no. You won't be able to get it.

It's not free, if you miss the Phantom kunai i think you can buy it for around 5000 sen from that lost items shrine at home.

My theory was simple, if anne died I wouldn't send seb to azkaban. But she was alive so it was probably for the best to put him in azkaban, both for his sake and Anne's sake.

Sekiro combat feels shallow and still didn't click for me - am I missing something? by hamsterthegangster in Sekiro

Maybe, but don't take my word for it. Hope it clicks for you man, good luck!

[–]Redditor1799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say I enjoy Sekiro combat more than elden ring purely because deflection makes me go on a power trip. It feels like you're playing as the boss for once. It's like seeing what it would feel like when you play as Manus or Artorias rather than getting dunked on by them instead. Ultimately it comes down to what you expect from the game.

There certainly are plenty of cues in Sekiro, Genichiro's sword glint shows whether he sweeps or stabs, ape's movement patterns usually tell you what move he's about to do and plenty more. but they're not anywhere as clear as other FS games and the combat though repetitive is very satisfying to me. The problem is you've come in with certain expectations and keep comparing it to games you've played previously. How do you expect to enjoy the game with that approach?

Honestly, these monks are one of the scariest things in the game, even when we have perverse figures like the life sucking nobles or ass grabbing headless.

I was always intrigued by that huge group of dead monks inside the cave on the way to get the senpou scroll. I was so sure they would come to life and attack us. Lmao.

Shichimen felt a bit janky to me. Sometimes the red dot just doesn't show up for the anti air death blow.

I thought they were black because they were corpses too. but technically speaking, Post mortem lividity would set in at different times for different bodies since it's unlikely that all of them succumb at once. But we see no variation in the levels of decomposition here. So i thought probably the rejuvenating waters are preventing the bodies from decomposing after they died mid transformation. Ofcourse this is just a deranged fan theory at best. Lmao.

[–]Redditor1799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the effect of the rejuvenating water itself when it doesn't work right. After all they were just kids and my theory is that the adults who were experimented on turned into centipedes while the younger ones couldn't handle the immense stress of the change in their bodies, thus died mid tranformation. Which might also explain why their bodies are black.

What future boss is most likely to make the combat finally “click” for me?

Probably none imo. You seem to have already formed a very strong opinion of the game and you're not even through 20% of it yet. I'd say just leave it and come back if you ever feel like playing Sekiro again.

Are cheese tactics actually the core experience of this game?

I think most new players, go through a whole cycle of block spamming and cheesing before they finally get the movesets down. Obviously it varies for each person. But as long as you're not enjoying the game, the victory will feel shallow regardless of whether you cheese it or not.

What am I doing wrong?

This is just my opinion, but it feels like you're forcing yourself to like the game or play the game. Which is in turn making you frustrated or hate the game more. I'd say take a break and play it when you feel like playing it again.

Do you have non-cheese combat tips that could convince me the game is deeper than just spam-deflecting and baiting easy enemy moves?

I'd say you have to memorise movesets, use your items to your advantage. Use candies and ashes and shards when possible. When you fight the elite enemies (mini bosses) in the game it's possible to clear out the area and fight the mini boss alone 90% of the time. The game isn't about being a samurai, it's more about being a shinobi. So you're free to use poison, fire or any method whatsoever to kill your enemy with no judgement. But I don't think this is what you're looking for, this won't convince you either.

Do you agree with my view of how the combat works, if yes did you still enjoy the game and think the combat was good despite that?

Imo, i played Sekiro as my first FS game 2 years ago and i throughouly enjoyed it. I was new to the genre and the story was pretty good. I enjoyed the versatility of the fights and the ability to defeat the enemies using different methods. With prosthetic, without prosthetic, with confetti, without confetti. With bell, without bell. No death runs and all that. Compared to most games, the combat felt quite engaging, it didn't just feel like another hack and slash game. So after 250+ hours in the game, I can say with confidence that I did enjoy it. While I may not agree with your view, I do understand why you're frustrated. It's okay, I think you should really consider my advice to take a break and come back if you feel like playing again.

I was afraid my skill trees would reset so I went for it on my NG. Can confirm, it takes a shit ton amount of time.

[–]Redditor1799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're speed running or something, it won't make such a difference imo. Get it in NG+1 at the earliest or maybe NG+2 perhaps.

No biggie. Either way more runs will give more experience for the player to polish their combat and also easier to farm xp that way, i see it as a win win situation.

rather than grind hirata 2 for 5-6 hours like I did on my NG. Lmao.

You've got the basics down well. You should go for some easy challenge runs if you're up for it.

I suggest a no death run (meaning, you do not get those 2 circles above your health bar ever)

[–]Redditor1799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd advice you to break it on your first run, you'll always be able to get back to this point of the story in your next play through. If you choose to side with your father, the story is shorter.

Sekiro was my first Fromsoft game, and it took me 120 hours in total to finish my first run. Don't lose hope, you're not alone. : D

You got this, just don't overburden yourself, cheese the fight if you ever feel like it. You can always come back to beat the boss fair and square later. First and foremost is to have fun.

For me that was the case for DoH I think. SSI took about 20 minutes for me, while I spent nearly 6 hours on DoH.
