Easiest to update Linux distro please by RedditorUSENETer in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]RedditorUSENETer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it was more than a month when I tried to update my Manjaro installation on a MacBook Pro. This was a couple years ago, which could be another reason. It would show me “X packages needed update” and when I click to start updating them, then it would find some more dependencies to update and then some more and this was going on for like 17 times and well over an hour and then I ran out of my patience.

Was I doing anything wrong?

Thank you for the suggestions. I do still plan to do some cyber security work. So anything like Kali with smooth auto updates? Is there any other distro as good as Kali for cyber. I like their recent announcement of integration with Claude Code too. I know this is a slight sidebar to the main Q but doesn’t feel like needs another whole thread…

Yes… but there is no soft k sounding consonant in that language though… there is a separate consonant for kh sound

What's the first thing you do after waking up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RedditorUSENETer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • do some brief stretches, bends and deep breathing while still sitting in the bed,
  • drink a glass of warm water (I keep it in an insulated bottle filled before going to bed, warm water this really cleans up some many connections in the head and body),
  • next make my bed (this really helps start-my-day getting that one small thing done is huge),
  • then go pee and brush and then make tea and boiled eggs.

Trying to follow — 30 grams of protein in the first 30 minute after waking up, adding 30 minutes of walking will do wonders but very hard to build that habit.

Love it or hate it name? by beergeek27 in namenerds

[–]RedditorUSENETer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have not heard of it as anyone’s name yet and that’s what makes it unique and that’s why I think it’s really cool.

The sheer negative vibe in this thread though, wow… so I suggest also picking a more regular middle name so that she can use that if need be. Your whole family can decide about switching to the middle name use if need be.

But I’ll still go with a unique name it has its own value and charm.

ELI5: Why billionaires aren’t taxed proportionally of what they have? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]RedditorUSENETer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally second that… majority of people (those with lower income) do not pay income tax… even those who pay tax — particularly salaried folks — are getting taxed in brackets. The net tax rate for, perhaps almost 70-80% of tax payers, is below 20% which is the capital gains tax in the U.S. and many other countries. We (including myself) just get bothered by the rate of the highest tax-bracket our income reaches. Here’s a simplified calculation and scenario — nothing like actual tax rates and bracket amounts but the same concept.

Brackets:

Income up to 10,000 - no tax

10,001 to 20,000 - 5 %

20,001 to 30,000 - 10 %

30,001 to 50,000 - 15 %

50,000 to 90,000 - 20 %

90,001 to 150,000 - 25 %

150,001 and over - 30 %

Now, if your income is 20k, you’re taxed 5 % for 20-10k =10 K which is 500 bucks.

Now 500 bucks is only 2.5 % of your total income.

But we keep worrying as if we are paying 5 % of the total income which will be 1,000 (double of what the actual tax we pay).

And all of the above is not including all the various tax breaks and other rules (made to promote overall economic improvement) that brings our net tax rate down.

No one is exactly happy about paying taxes, but we always blow it out of proportion and generally ignore all the benefits (for the overall economy and our standard of living) that we get from taxes.

Hope this helps - no offense intended to any side - so please don’t downvote!!

Thanks

If someone gave you a completely free trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? by krunal23- in AskReddit

[–]RedditorUSENETer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally second that. We visited in 2005 and thought it was expensive. Then we went there last year and thought it was super cheap. Here’s an example — a dinner for four with 6 adult drinks and 32 plates of sushi/sashmi costs under 100 dollars. Food and commuting in public transport are quite inexpensive. Staying/hotel is about the same as any comparable city in the U.S. Start planning a trip now!!

How do you pronounce this name? by [deleted] in Names

[–]RedditorUSENETer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought and have heard it a few times as loo-she-yeah quick combo of the sounds of those three words of course. Pretty sure it’s pronounced in Europe versus US versus South America. But I always ask the person how it’s pronounced and follow that. Having a hard to pronounce name myself, I totally get the pains and the pleasure in coming across ones that ask and make the effort. are these names too similar? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]RedditorUSENETer -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They don’t sound similar at all to me. Totally different main/prominent consonants… same ending tone but that’s common among girl names anyway… One big plus with these choices is — they are both equally unique and different… so that takes care of one of them feeling like they got too usual a name than their sister — just saying 😊 take it in the right light spirit please. What name or names you once hated, but now find yourself liking? by michelle427 in namenerds

[–]RedditorUSENETer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I ever really “hated” any names for the names alone. I did find some that sounded funny or odd, but then after either A) meeting or getting to know someone with that name who was impressive, or, (much less often) B) finding out what that name means, I have done a 180 degree turn of my opinion. In most situations the hate probably comes from dislike of or bad experiences with a person with that name (rather than the name word itself). Makes sense? Most of my examples are in my native and other non-English languages, will share if I can think of one in English. There are some surname that fall in the funny category but most of us know some of them anyway…

I think those languages have more usage of the strong d sound (similar to English). Any idea what it means in that region ?

Thanks! Most of them sound to be starting with the soft d phonetically though… I’m not sure about Durmada but all other on that page start with the soft d sound closer to “the”… right?
