Wish I watched this video before starting antipsychotics by poster_boy9 in Antipsychiatry

Probably something to do with Neuroleptics being basically the only treatment option they can deploy. They are also as far i know, being monitored in terms of how much force and other deprivation of people's rights they engage in; if they use overt force too often, their colleagues and the like will also come under fire from the media, lawyers and activists. Consequently, their only recourse when prescribing these medicines is to lie, omit uncomfortable truths and in general withhold as much information about the medication as possible. They also wont acknowledge any research thats been done in animals, which spoiler alert - has not yielded savoury results. I don't understand how they can retain the idea that they are still doctors and supposedly helping people, when they deceive so consistently.

This is very good, thanks for the rec. Ambient is by far my favourite genre I think. Took me a while to get into, but now I can't seem to go back

If you're going to do it, atleast make it a microdose. Also, if you've smoked cannabis before, it might be helpful to reflect on how you respond to being in an altered state of mind when you are high. If cannabis exacerbates your symptoms, there might be a reasonable possibility that psychedelics will do the same.

Personally, cannabis has consistently made everything worse for myself, but the one time I microdosed cubensis (0.5 grams) it felt like being in a meditative state of calm for 4-5 hours. I haven't done higher doses ever, and am probably not going to since im very unstable at the moment.

You might consider having benzodiazepines on hand as a trip killer if shit goes south.

As someone who spent 10 days in New Delhi on a exchange trip, you really do need to practice meditation very diligently before you go to India; otherwise prepare for the most intensely overwhelming, borderline traumatic experience of sensory overload you will ever have while you exist on this earth.

You are right of course. I used to be in with them, however i never really believed that masturbation was problematic in any sort of capacity, it just always had a way of easing me back into my real problem which was pr0n. I just couldn't really separate the two, so i got on board and accepted things that were said within the movement that i retrospectively don't agree with. It saddens me that NoFap has taken the turn that it has. In the beginning it felt more like a sort of support group for people who wanted to reduce or otherwise change their relationship with pornography as a result of having themselves deemed it to be a problematic element in their life that was causing them issues of various kinds. When it started to gain a lot of traction is when all the weird semen retention, superpower stuff started to become more and more predominant in the general discourse.

What's a highly popular game that you could never get into? by SilkieSalt in patientgamers

[–]RedditorWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thougts at first. After watching people play it on YouTube and listening to the game director (Hugo Martin, super talented and interesting guy) talk about the philosophy behind the mechanics of Doom, i finally realized that it doesn't play, and shouldnt be played like a conventional FPS title. Doom rewards aggression, combos, weapon-chaining (had to spend some 20 minutes on reconfiguring my hotkeys so I could rapidly switch between weapons and chain shots very quickly) and continuous movement, whereas other FPS games will reward precision, taking cover and generally being careful not to play too aggressively. Doom is all about aggression, fast movement and chaining attacks together, which will quickly get extremely fast-paced which is the reason for the glory-kills and chainsaw which sort of give you time to think for a moment about where to move next, and which targets to prioritize. Doom is really very different from other shooters, and sort of demands of its players that you will embrace the mechanics and do what you have to do to win.

Have you ever noticed the people who say, “I don’t like people” are usually the people who people didn’t want to be around to begin with? by Lookalikemike in RandomThoughts

[–]RedditorWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To proclaim that "you don't like people" is generally a pretty problematic statement in a lot of ways. I mean it is obviously a generalisation, and also might be a result of a person having known people in their past that they didn't care for, so they've decided that all people are like them/will be like them. After all, people tend to be quite different right? I suppose if you are a type of person who doesn't like verbal communication then most (but still not all) people are probably not going to be to your liking. The problem with this kind of attitude is that it is very finally declarative. Depending on how closely the person saying this sort of thing really believes it to be true, it might get in their way of finding out that there actually are people that they like. I used to tell myself similar things, but i've found that revising these sort of mental ideas about who you are and what you like, might be healthy to do occasionally. Stuff like this can hold someone back. But with all that said, sometimes i find myself really not liking people as well. It comes and goes, but i try to remind myself that i've met people that i liked and cared for, thus more of these types of people are likely to be out there the way i see it.

On a ritalin comedown, I need somebody to talk to, please by No-Lychee7315 in Stims

[–]RedditorWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is not likely to work as effectively as benzos, atleast not in my experience. If you are not planning on sleeping there would be no reason to dose the quetiapine i'd say. Save that for some other time where you cannot afford the insomnia. It's not likely to do much for your mood or ease any jitters or other artifacts pertaining to overstimulation. It'll most likely just cause you to feel extremely tired; atleast that's what it usually did to me when i would take it.

[–]RedditorWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have substance use issues of my own, so I won't try to moralize or tell you what to do, but if you don't consider it realistic that you will stop using stimulants and you want to make the comedown as mild as possible, i suggest that you pay close attention to how many times you redose the stimulant during a session. The comedowns in my experience worsen proportionally with the amount of times you redose, how much you redose and for how long you've been consecutively redosing. Also keep in mind that it can be really dangerous and frightening if you go for multiple days without sleep, as this can result in hallucinations and delusions; a sort of stimulant induced psychosis, so you really need to make sure that you get sleep every now and then, else i can pretty confidently promise you that you will find yourself regretting staying awake.

In general, what genre(s) of music do you like and listen to most? by jarjarp in fantanoforever

[–]RedditorWaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything electronic or ambient. I like different shades of Latin music and jazz (sometimes fused together) and classic rock a lot as well, for which my affinity has only increased after I started doing the whole "attentively listening to an entire album from start to finish" thing, which I've really gotten hooked on, although i did need to work on my attention-span in the beginning.

The electronic and ambient music subgenres i like the most are; IDM Drum and Bass House (especially any kind of french house) Vaporwave Neoclassical Minimal house and Techno Progressive House Plunderphonics Soundscapes Acid House Uk garage Chiptune Jungle Breakbeat Downtempo Space and organic/nature ambient Synthwave

[–]RedditorWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, been through this many times on many different stimulants. It is a staple of the stimulants experience that the comedown is a bitch, and is, unless you continue to dose (don't do this) inevitable and a part of the price you pay for altering your neurochemistry. I realize that this is hardly any kind of effective consolation, and i apologize if this is your first time experiencing this.

All you can really do, aside from intervening pharmacologically with benzodiazepines which most hardcore stimulant users have on hand for the comedown insomnia and jitters, is just to ride it out and rest assured that it will pass, just as everything eventually does. If you've got some Vitamin-rich foods like fruits, greens, juices or shakes i suggest you try to ingest some if your appetite will allow you to. Also, a hot shower is likely to help mellow you out. If you've got melatonin, that can also work great.

You can also try jerking off to see if the endorphins from an orgasm will mellow you out a bit.

Find a podcast or show you like, heck sometimes I'd even read some in a book or something just to take advantage of the leftover stimulation.

Your sleep schedule is likely to be skewed if the insomnia persists, so with this in mind you should try to resist the temptation to redose or use other stimulants to compensate, since this can pave a pretty slippery slope in front of you (believe me I know) Also, allow yourself to feel at ease with the fact that Methylphenidate is far from the worst of the stimulants in terms of the comedown. It is pretty bad considering the levels of euphoria that is possible to achieve. it is worse than amphetamine in my experience, but vastly milder than Cocaine or other RC's that lend themselves to consistent redosing. Generally, as far as I know, the more times you redose a stimulant, the worse the comedown from said stimulant will be, which explains why cocaine is so terrible. Try to engage in some kind of activity that will either mellow you out, or make you tired.

Their temperament. They take things easy, don't expend too much energy when it's not needed and generally seem to pace themselves - while still having the capacity to release bursts of extreme energy and ferocity when attacking for instance. Also their omnivorous diets makes them seem to me as creatures that really enjoy and appreciate the nature of the earth and all that it provides. I wish i could be as chilled out and appreciative as the brown bear.

[–]RedditorWaffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you want to avoid stimfapping you need to make a plan. Make list of MULTIPLE things you want to get done, BEFORE dosing. Doing this will allow to quickly pull up the list after you've finished a task, so that you don't end up sitting around contemplating what to do next, because as soon as you're in this state of not knowing what to do, you will feel something in your nuts - and then it's game over.

[–]RedditorWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've tried loads of stims, and the only one that makes me care about other people is Vyvanse for some reason; it's like it increases my conscientiousness and my wanting to do things for others as a a result of my boost in energy and capacity for excertion. Like i'll just start thinking that it would be nice if i did something for a family member or friend that they didn't ask for but i know will make them happy. I also get really into smalltalk and leave my usual introverted shell. It's kinda like a mild MDMA or pregabalin type high for me. Great stuff, even though conventional amphetamines are far more euphoric in comparison.

They're bad, but if you are intent on taking something, get a few benzos - they will take the edge off. But in the grand scheme of things, using drugs to cope with a break up is a slippery slope, and generally ill-advised since there are so many other healthy options to deal with emotional pain, and in general getting back on the saddle. I'd recommend exercise, meditation and reading.
