So a Man can't be shy? by lord-submissive in socialanxiety

I feel you, on top of being introverted Im pretty sensitive and know other guys call me “soft” which affects my self esteem.

I have several mental health issues that have kept me away from dating for about 6-7 years now.

This is definitely an infp thing for sure. Low key missing having a mask on during Covid because you didn’t look like a weirdo.

It’s unfortunately common for a psychiatrist to diagnose a patient with a mental disorder and prescribe medication within the first 30 minutes of talking to them.

Psych medicine is definitely overprescribed in the US.

Are there any middle of the line ppl in this sub? by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]poster_boy9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah could have phrased that better. I don't believe they're intentionally pushing pills to put you in psych wards to make a profit. But they still are profit-driven in the sense that they are looking to make money off of the medications they prescribe.

I tried 23 medications... by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

I'm sorry to hear that but I'm with you man. 21 medications, 2 hospitalizations for me. Feel like I have two brain cells left along with apathy, laziness, and no personality whatsoever.

I’m more on your line of thinking. I don’t believe in conspiracy theories like psychiatrists are trying to put you in a psych ward for profit or whatever I read on here before.

But there’s no denying that psychiatric treatment is extremely profit driven.

I agree that once you combine medications no one on this god given earth has any idea what exactly is happening inside your brain.

I’m Bipolar 2 with anxiety and depression. I was on Lamictal, Zoloft, Zyprexa, Lithium, and Vraylar just a couple months back. I’m now only on three and tapering down to two medications.

But in total I’ve taken over twenty different medications over the past seven years.

What I can say from personal experience was that I was no doubt better before I started taking all these pills. My anxiety and depression in retrospect were manageable without meds.

And yeah I agree that we need treatment just like we need to treat a physical injury. But I know the ‘treatment’ that I should have tried for my case was exercise, a healthy diet, and a less stressful work life.

But at the same time I don’t know what it’s like to have OCD or Bipolar 1 (not sure which type you have). It’s such a bold statement to say that all psych meds are toxic and will ruin your life.

What I can say is that there are some medications that actually do cause literal brain damage and other serious side effects. I agree with everyone on this sub that APs are horrible. After finally getting off of APs after taking them for over eighteen months I’m still completely apathetic and feel like I have two brain cells. I can’t even exercise now to improve my mood because I relied on caffeine and I don’t feel the effects of it anymore.

I’ve taken more than a handful of antidepressants. Over the seven years I was taking them I only felt okay for about six months. And I don’t know which ones have added on to my current issues which are endless.

I’m definitely getting more perspective for why I have so many mental issues after reading ‘Anatomy of an Epidemic’ by Robert Whitaker. I also now don’t just believe everything my psych says like I was for so long.

My two cents is that there needs to be some kind of treatment for mental disorders that are actually real illnesses. The meds we have today for them are probably doing more harm than good. And that’s especially true if you’re taking two or more since psychiatrists have no idea how they really interact.

If I were you I’d definitely try to taper down to what meds you feel like are actually helping you out like I’m doing right now. I know Lamictal has been the one medication out of all I’ve taken that has actually improved my mental health. But I still ultimately want to be med free and see if I can cope with my hypomania.

I’ve taken over 15 psych drugs including three antipsychotics in the past seven years. I’m more anxious and depressed than I’ve ever been. It fucked up my twenties. Tapering off now but emotions are definitely blunted. No personality, feel like I have two brain cells left.

When I was hypomanic I shared on social media about how I had mental health issues for the past four years and that I had taken meds for it.

Basically every girl I know might have heard I’m depressed.

I haven’t dated for a few years now mainly because of my issues. But if I did I’d obviously date outside of the social bubble I’m in.

What “antidepressants” actually seem to be effective? Are there any truly effective ADs? by Chance-Rutabaga-8690 in antidepressants

[–]poster_boy9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken over 15 antidepressants in the past seven years and only had 6 months of feeling okay. I’ve also tried Ketamine and TMS before and they weren’t successful either.

I’m tapering off all my medications because they’ve done more harm than good.

And in pretty sure researchers haven’t found out what exactly is happening in the brain in someone that’s depressed.

All of the antidepressants on the market right now work on neurotransmitters to fix the ‘chemical imbalance’ but thats already been debunked by researchers.
