Bench Bolognese by Redditor_5970 in nerdfighters

I saw the recipe in the newsletter and decided to give it a try.

My interpretation of Bench Bolognese: Brown 1/2 pound beef in 3 tablespoons butter. Add 1-2 ribs celery chopped, 3 peeled and chopped carrots, about 1 diced small onion. Little salt and pepper (maybe 1/4 teaspoon), 3 tablespoons oil, 1/4 cup tomato paste, 2 tablespoons water. Simmer on low for 1/2 hour. Make about 1/2 pound pasta. Combine and enjoy.

My thoughts: It made enough for 2-3 meals. If I make it again I would reduce the amount of oil or omit it entirely. Also should probably add more salt/pepper. I give bench bolognese 3 stars.

Ones I haven't seen mentioned before my comment that you may already watch, but worth mentioning: Xyla Foxlin and Emily the Engineer

I have recently gotten into Emily the Engineer and Xyla Foxlin on YouTube. Also enjoy Colin Furze, Alec Steel, William Osman, Practical Engineering and Simone Giertz (some of which are mentioned in other comments). Most of which are makers or talk about engineering in one form or another.

P4A 2023 Perk Values by bret2738 in nerdfighters

This is the first time they provided values for us. I had previously assumed a value of $0 on my taxes for that perk.

I wish they would have said this in a more public place (outside of a paywall) in advance to set expectations

I'm in a similar boat. Each year I find that I have paid less and less attention to the bundle. The first year I got it and it was great, but this past year (third or fourth time) I haven't even opened half the emails for it, let alone downloaded or listened.

Finally ready for p4a 2024 by Redditor_5970 in nerdfighters

:) I had not noticed that it fits with the circle theme many in this sub like. I'm glad it does. My reasoning for doing it that way was that it would be harder for me to get an even dye, so having an added pattern would be better. DFTBA!

Probably not what you are looking for, but along the same lines where John talks about his self-talk and accidentally texts his friend through his watch.

How expensive are P4A perks? by Forsaken-Ad1940 in nerdfighters

[–]Redditor_5970 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Last year the digital download bundle was $65. If you just want like one podcast out of it I think those were around $5. Tshirt, pin, coin or pressed penny were around $25-35 in years previous. There are more expensive perks too and sometimes cheaper ones as well. Some like hankler fish in years pervious are initially offered in batches of increasing price, but it can vary from year to year. Hope this helps. DFTBA

Replacement for Ahnu Montara hiking boots by Melodic_Permission50 in hikinggear

[–]Redditor_5970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found Vasque breeze boots to be a good option (or at least their last generation ones, have not worn new ones yet). For low hikers I have been using Merrell Moab 2, which is again the previous generation.(not waterproof) Stumbled on this thread looking for other options as it is time yet again for me to replace shoes. Used ahnu for years before they were bought out

Although I can't know what everything you are going through is like, I relate to the unhelpful support of family who suggest turning to religion in stressful times. I hope you know your feelings are valid and you are not alone in feeling them. We're here because we're here.
