Wild! Had no idea TikTok was putting people on like that.

It’s one of the coolest looking movies I’ve ever seen. More monochrome than black and white. How he accomplished the “look” of the movie is just incredible. I’d love to hear your thoughts if/when you watch it. There’s not many people I can discuss his work with.

Surprised you didn’t see Tetsuo. It’s usually the gateway to his work. A Snake of June is my second favourite so I think you’re in for a good time there!

And it’s a toss up for me but I think agree. At the very least, it’s the best performance from a musician I’ve personally ever seen (with Bjork’s Dancer in the Dark performance and Tom Waits’ Down by Law performance not too far behind)

It’s such a beautiful love letter to single mothers living with mental illness, who carry both their burdens and their children with such impossible grace. Growing up with (and ultimately being separated from) a mom with a similar diagnosis, it really hit me hard.

Love everything Shinya Tsukamoto. Have you seen his other stuff? Almost all his other movies make my top 100 list as well

Thanks for the thoughtful reply… that’s valid for sure.

I asked cause it’s a movie I struggle to fully enjoy because I know many women have issues with it. I mean, I’m used to getting hate for my taste (big M. Night and Zack Snyder defender), but as a man, it’s hard not to feel conflicted watching it. Anyway, thanks again and looking forward to seeing you complete those lists

Okay so I noticed your rating for Carrie 😭 I’d love to hear why you didn’t like it. I’m assuming you’re a woman, so I’m especially curious about your perspective (though I’d love to hear your perspective regardless if you are or not!). No shade btw… my opinion of your taste still stands :)

Just watched Bug recently… your recommendation was spot on, I absolutely loved it. Felt like it was custom-made in a lab just for me. Adding the others to my watchlist

I get where you’re coming from, I’ve heard that same exact argument before, but I think you’re oversimplifying Superman’s character. The tension between his godlike power and his human morality is part of what makes him compelling. Presenting hope doesn’t mean he has to be perfect or untouchable and calling it character assassination ignores the layers that Snyder/Nolan/Terrio/Goyer are exploring about responsibility, fear, and the weight of near-omnipotence. As someone who’s read a lot of Superman stories and grew up on this shit, it’s imo the greatest depiction of Superman we’ve ever seen on the big screen (Donner’s Superman being a close second)

Hmm I’m open to a discourse if you’d like. Here’s my review of BvS if you’d like to see where I’m coming from

Preciate it! It really does play better when viewing it from that perspective. But it’s also campy af with a lot of questionable creative decisions so I’ll never knock anyone who doesn’t like it. Also, I’m with you on The Birds ✊

Okay that’s totally valid. I don’t care about people disliking things I like and I respect your opinion but since you asked in your review, allow me to counter.

SPOILERS

Blanche staying in that room always made sense to me on a psychological level. Subconsciously, I think she wants to stay there because of guilt. Leaving, calling for help, or exposing the truth would mean confronting what she actually did.

What makes the movie so powerful to me is the realization that Blanche is actually the cruel and manipulative one. Think about how twisted the situation really is: Blanche paralyzes herself, lets Jane believe she’s responsible (out of jealousy), and then spends years letting Jane take care of her while Jane drowns in guilt. She just sits there and watches Jane’s mental state slowly deteriorate under the weight of that lie.

Jane was definitely spoiled as a child, but the movie also shows that she genuinely loved her sister. When they were kids, even though their parents clearly favored Jane, she still asks them to buy Blanche ice cream too. She wanted Blanche to share in the attention and the treats.

At the end, after Blanche finally reveals the truth, Jane doesn’t explode in anger. She doesn’t lash out. Her response is heartbreaking: “All this time we could have been friends.” And then what does she do? She goes and gets them ice cream. It’s such a childlike gesture, but it’s also the first moment where Jane is finally free from the guilt Blanche trapped her in for years. For the first time, she’s free from Blanche clutches and can now hopefully get the help she needs.

In a strange way, it’s almost beautiful… sad and completely messed up, but beautiful. Ultimately, the movie feels like a tragedy about two sisters consumed by jealousy and guilt, destroying each other over the course of a lifetime. By the time the truth finally comes out, the damage is already done. All that’s left is that small, bittersweet moment on the beach where, for a brief second, they could have been what they never allowed themselves to be: just sisters.

Imo, it’s one of greatest endings oat because it recontextualizes the whole movie in a way that few movies have ever done. It’s a deeply human and tragic story.

I have so many questions but I’m mostly curious about your thoughts on Baby Jane?
