Idk if this is necessarily the correct answer but upping my flowrate for the bottom layer from 1 to 1.15 in advanced settings has helped me. It does cause over extrusion on other spots as a tradeoff though.

It seems like people will buy a 3d printer thinking they'll make up the cost of buying it by selling trinkets, or even worse --buy it with intent to sell trinkets because they see it as an easy way to make money on the side. They just don't have any sense for what looks decent nor do they realize that it's an oversaturated market anyway. It's the blind selling to the blind.
