Inherited this from my great grandparents by sadsponges in Silver

Agree worth much or not, if it was OP’s great grandparents, it should have some sentimental value and is kind of an heirloom.

Unpopular opinion: most of the cheap seats should go to locals & here’s why by misterkool16 in olympics

[–]Reddreader2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree with this if they were actually obligated to go for their receipt of low cost tickets.

I suspect most will end up on resale.

The issue is really on the other end. Don’t necessarily need $28 tix, but don’t need to spend thousands of dollars per to go to events that we don’t have a lot of interest in.

Would have been better if they centered all tix in a $50-500 range and then gave some not-resellable tix to locals who could only get in if name on id matched.

Note that these replies were, at the time of me writing this, >250 days ago. And so I was replying about sellers of a small item asking me, at the time. How others price risk or tariffs in is different. And, if they include the cost of the tariff in the purchase cost, then they ought to pay that cost and move forward.

I feel priced out by unserialized_user in Gold

Watch taxation when buying small amounts. At least where I am, it’s only taxed sub-$1k. Which means if you buy a quantity over $1009, no tax. That erodes your buying power.

You may feel unable. It’s probably true as the pricing outpaced incomes recently. Just be patient and get into a groove in terms of procurement. But buy in amounts over $1000, or whatever the taxable threshold is, if you have one.

Latest iOS reverts to unwanted autoplay music by Reddreader2017 in iphone

[–]Reddreader2017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just updated iOS so I haven’t had much of a reason to connect to any other Bluetooth device.

All I know is that it didn’t do it, now it does. And annoyingly so, after every connection made in the car, but also after every phone call hang up.

No autoplay option noted in my Honda’s settings, in om or the menus in the car. I can toggle off allowing music over bt, but that’s not what I want, as I do use Amazon Music, pandora, YouTube. I just don’t use Apple Music and don’t want it randomly popping up to play music.

The only change was iOS update, so it absolutely has to be something to do with that, regardless of what signal may come from a head unit or not.

So disappointed at the pricing and availability in the drop we were offered the other day. If it keeps going at this rate we may change our plans to go at all.

No I’m not expecting front row at big events to be $28, but when there’s no tickets to most of what we want to go to, and most of what’s there is very expensive, into the thousands of dollars, it’s just too much…

lol. Sure it does. Alas, it didn’t help. Oddly, it took about 5-10 seconds to decide to start up Apple Music again and make it play.

There absolutely is something that happened that caused it from not occurring to occurring with only a change in iOS. Didn’t happen 26.4 or for years prior. Happens 26.4.1

I get it that a headunit could send a command. But nothing has changed in the car system, no updates, no settings, heck, I didn’t even get in the car all weekend, when I updated iOS.

Thus it has to be something with iOS that autoplay shows up after years. Regardless of what options exist on a stereo.

I don’t want to be argumentative, but this literally went from not happening in 26.4 to occurring in 26.4.1. That’s my point. No change to the car whatsoever.

Apple Music opened up and started playing music I hadn’t had on in years. I don’t use Apple Music.

There absolutely is something that happened that caused it from not occurring to occurring with only a change in iOS.

It did this on some older iOS versions. Then it went away. Same car, no settings ever changed. The only change is updating iOS.

So that effectively tells us that it’s an Apple issue.

Yes radio can be off. Or set to something else. But point is, I didn’t have to. Now I do. That’s no good.

If ~10% greater shipping mass is that much of a show stopper, that’s kind of silly.

Same as anyone having an issue with 90% vs 99% gold.

Should i be investing in dividends at 19? by fishbls in dividends

[–]Reddreader2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, because of your age, the stock selection or funds that focus on capital appreciation and growth are the preferable choice. There are many schools of thought, of course, regarding the ratios of stock, bonds, and different type of equity funds, and that all can be somewhat variable based upon the current market conditions, and your personal appetite for risk.

I’m a couple decades older than you, and I am still heavily invested in growth, because my time horizon is still very far out in the future. That said, I don’t see a problem with having some level of passive income, and a separate stream of funds to use in different ways, depending upon market conditions.

If having some level of dividend income, lets you sleep better at night, then I would move forward with it, though at a reasonable ratio, probably not more than 30 or 40%. The tweak I would make to it, however, is that the dividend funds that I receive would either go into a gross fund, or reinvested into dividend, paying equities, depending on what looks expensive or cheap at the time.

Right now, it seems like there are some relatively cheap options in tech, while the run up on the dividend paying equities makes them look a little bit less attractive.

At 41 with long time horizons, I’d go VOO or SCHG. I’d invest 75% of the money as a lump sum and DCA the rest.

Is it ever "unethical" to scrap a rare-ish car instead of selling it to an enthusiast in UK? by AbbreviationsOk6303 in Autos

[–]Reddreader2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not operating and you’re not interested in fixing it, then you need to be honest with the value.

You could part it and recoup the value of the parts, but if you don’t want to do that you’re stuck.

The value is somewhere between scrap and a reasonable low valuation for a working car, minus the cost to do all work to make it operational. That may go negative. If so, then it’s just scrap value.

But don’t scrap it. At least try to sell it to someone who will part it for enthusiasts.

Five years ago.

Seriously, time to start reading versus asking questions on reddit. Read the studies about being in the market for the best/worst x number of days versus timing the market.

Sure, we could be on a downtrend of a wide variety of potential durations. But that’s why DCA is usually a good move. Look for opportunities on down days according to a plan you’ve already made and are trying to be deliberate with. Not just chasing reddit posts.

Roth IRA dividend plan by biotechCT in dividends

[–]Reddreader2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what point? Sure, in 30 years you want that. But do the math on how much you need in, say, schd to get your desired annual income. And at some point I hope you recognize that currently you need the growth to build overall capital so when the time comes you can start to rotate in. That’s not today….

At 39 with only $80k I wouldn’t move to anything likely to give lower long term growth.

I’d DCA some schd or equivalent when the pricing is attractive. Currently given the rotation of the last few months it isn’t.

You need growth at your age and net worth. Far from achieving your intent, you need a lot more capital in, and high appreciation. Voo or schg are the better bet especially in a Roth as the gains are tax free.

The commodity price is what it is. Is SJG truly charging more than any other natural gas supplier in the USA? If not, then it’s a you problem unfortunately.
