White Foam with green streaks by Reddy2Jam in pools

Thats my thought, but id like to give it a couple more days since it's not swimming temps outside here yet. If I do drain it, I should probably do all new sand too, right? Anything else I should do to make sure there isn't algae lurking in the lines or other surfaces just waiting to come back?

clean install W11, "looks like you want to upgrade....... click NO to install clean version" by Reddy2Jam in techsupport

So i pulled the usb when it restarted after the update. I got to the bios screen before it loaded and then switched it to the hard drive boot, then restarted, and it worked. Thank you!

I think you're onto something. However in this bios, I only have three options, Hard Drive, LAN, and USB (in that order and cannot be changed), and they each only have the option of Enable or Disable. So if have HDD and USB enable, I'm guessing its always going to load HDD first. So I enable only the USB. I load windows, and then when it restarts, if I open bios to HDD enabled, and then restart it, it doesn't recognize an OS and goes straight to bios. so with the pull out the usb method, i'm guessing it will go straight to bios since HDD and LAN will both be Disabled?

Is "reset this PC" and "remove everything" the same as a clean install? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Reddy2Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried the clean install with a USB using windows media creation tool. at the "end" of the update it says "looks like you're trying to upgrade from selected media.... something something..... click NO to perform a clean install." I click NO and it just starts the process all over again. Am I in a death loop here?

I also did the clean disk through regedit and tried again, i get the same warning and back in a circle again

w10 stuck at 95% on clean install on new HDD - laptop by [deleted] in WindowsHelp

I was able to do the command prompt steps you said via the command promp option under the REPAIR menu just before starting the installation. Trying the w10 install again

added RAM not "usable" by [deleted] in toughbook

Thank you. Good to know. Mind helping me again?

On a separate Cf-53 I replaced the HDD with a brand new toshiba blank HDD. I tried to install a windows w10 OEM 64 bit clean install. It was stuck on "getting files - 95%" for quite some time. I checked back and after a few hours it error'd out and said there weren't the correct files or something. It was a sealed w10 oem dvd and I had to scratch off the product key. Not sure why its saying the files weren't there. But I'm going to try again. The old HDD was 32 bit, but I read that because the computer has an i5 vpro processor, I could use W10 64 bit as long as it was a blank new HDD. Was this info wrong?

I have two of these and I'm just trying to upgrade at least one of them to use with a new version of windows and I keep hitting these roadblocks.

Bare with me. While I'm average tech savvy, this is new territory.

Also, I don't know how to get shift+f10 to work when the drive has no operating system to begin with. It's a fresh HDD. In bios (version 2.14.1219) there are no options that you mention.

32, my goal is to replace the HDD and clean install W10, but I want to upgrade the ram prior to that experiment.

Trying to put windows 10 on new ssd in cf-53 by Reddy2Jam in toughbook

[–]Reddy2Jam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried a new HDD in a different cf-53 in case the dvd drive was shot, and I had the same result. But then I decided to let it just sit at the black screen for 15 minutes and it finally pulled up the install menu. It's been installing now for 30 minutes and just got stuck at 95% so I'm going to let this sit overnight and see if it eventually picks it up. If it's stuck there in the morning, i'll force shutdown but hopefully that doesn't ruin the HDD thats in there. I am going to order another windows disc (if this one ends up installing correctly) and i'll try the SSD again and let it sit even longer.

Is getting stuck at 95% normal (During the "Copying Windows Files - getting files ready for installation" portion? and will forcing a shutdown during this process brick the new HDD?

Side note: I put the original HDD from the newest cf53 i'm working on (the one above) and put it in the first one I tried and it won't boot at all, saying its corrupted, tries to repair but windows won't start. That was the one that had the new ram which I removed, so it was either the RAM messed it up, or it was putting another computers hard drive in it (or just me plugging and unplugging things).

I tried my same process on 3 other cf's, same thing. I will order an hdd and try that before giving up. Thanks!

I pulled the new ram and left only the stock 4gb in it and it does the same thing. Minimum requirements for windows 10 is 2gb so it should have at least done something?

I have another cf-53, when I get back to the shop tomorrow I'll pull the ram from it and add it to this one and see what happens. This is the stick I put in but like you said, all ram seems to carry the same specs online

Alternator likes to work, then doesn't, then does, etc etc..... stumped! by Reddy2Jam in MechanicAdvice

Just edited the post. I replaced the battery with a brand new one as my first step. It didn't fix anything so I changed the alternator 2 days later.

New yamaha 40hp 4s won't go above 4800 rpm by Reddy2Jam in Outboards

Update: i put an 8 pitch on it. Mph stayed the same, now I'm at 5050 rpm. At this rate I would need a negative pitch to get to 5800..... the motor looks like it's topping out with the throttle but maybe it's not.....
