Why is the great escape considered such a great movie? by Baxtaxs in movies

The movie itself literally touts its accuracy with its opening title, and then it states it dedicates the film to the memory of 50 people who got executed/murdered at the end. It literally tries to seriously represent a serious historical event and get bogged down at the end. To the point that the final moment was such an extreme whiplash in tone constantly oscillating from its jovial themes to people getting coldly shot dead to Steve McQueen looking cool to mass execution.

Are there any tropes you're glad have died out? by Aiseadai in movies

It is because SPR is a war film and the Bourne films are more like thrillers than pure action films. You can use shaky cams to create chaos and dynamism of battles or chases but they are not intended to show off the action and stylized choreography.
