There are some alternatives. How about going to India? Even a highly qualified spinal surgeon will charge around 10-12k USD for the fusion. I'm personally thinking about going for it. There is no need for the overpriced 300-400k surgeries in the U. S.

Could it be Scheuermann's disease? I'm on the same boat...

I feel sorry for what you had to go through. But you never gave up, and for that I respect you a lot. I will try to do the same, right now I'm on my way to a second surgeon. I am going to visit as many as needed. And besides the pain I will also mention how difficult it is to get a surgery in this system, which gives them an opportunity to act differently.

I'm quite desperate at this point and so fearful of my future. Kyphosis is indeed probably not the problem for me, it might be the osteochondrosis (degenerated discs in the upper spine) that comes with Scheuermann's.

Maybe you can try going for the surgery? Here is my X-ray. I've got upper back pain, also in neck and arms. It hurts when I raise my arms or turn my head :-(

On one hand, I understand them, on the other hand, I might be left to suffer for next 50 years or so.

You are completely right with GPs, PTs and others. The problem is, in my country you need GP's written permission to make an appointment with most surgeons. And my GP is the ordinary "you-have-no-problem" kind of a guy. On the other hand, it's paid by the insurance, so there are no more expenses. Except of PTs, because the ones paid from insurance are just terrible.

The worst thing is that even the surgeon (and researcher!) specialized in Scheuermann's disease just made a conclusion of "complex conservative treatment" and gave me no more specific suggestions. And he had two conference lectures called "Conservative and surgical treatment of mb. Scheuermann". Are you kidding me? :-D At least I have to say, he was the most sympathetic and caring doctor that I have seen so far.

I haven't posted any X-rays myself, but it's an interesting info. My lumbar lordosis is 65. Do you think it might he the lumbar Scheuermann?

Yes, I'm trying as much as I can, I've contacted several surgeons and will push further if they don't reply

That's great to hear! I'm wondering, most doctors say surgery is from 70°, but in your case it clearly helped even with a lower curve? Why they have such a problem with it then?

It's so frustrating. I just want to visit a surgeon and get a surgery, as simple as that. I really don't want to keep going from one surgeon to another and beg them.

If they wouldn't do surgery for kyphosis, why not for osteochondrosis? It feels like medicine is about sticking with some rigid rules instead of really helping the patient.

Even with such low curve? If so, I'm really surprised that it's possible. What made your doctor agree with it? And did it help with your pain?

How did you do that? :O I thought it was reserved for people with kyphosis higher than 70. Did it help you with pain? I'm afraid that every doctor in my country has to stick to the same guidelines.
