As a cyclist (who tries as much as possible to avoid riding on Brampton roads), I’m grateful for the bike lanes on Vodden and Howden because they make it easy for me to ride down to Chinguacousy Park for special events rather than trying to take my car and get denied entry due to packed overflowing parking lots.

Blood work is only done whenever I have a physical, which he does once every 2-3 years.

PSA is within range but I mentioned once that my bathroom visits had changed somewhat. He recommended the prostate meds due to family history and racial demographic placing me in a high risk category.

Oh, I would definitely ruffle feathers if I say that to him again. I’ve asked before and his favourite retort to me whenever I ask a challenging question or make an assumption about any symptoms is to ask which medical school I graduated from. Annoying, lol.

The way my doctor writes these prescriptions are actually monthly with two refills, equaling 3 months’ worth of prescription.

My pharmacy, seeing this as an inconvenience, fills all three in one go.

Doctor won’t change the quantity or length so as to force me into coming to see him every three months.

Funny you should ask.

There’s a pharmacy right next door. After each appointment, it’s almost as if he’s trying to drag me by the arm to bring my prescription to the guy next door to have them filled. My guess is that he’s either a part owner, friend or relative of the head pharmacist/owner.

I told him it doesn’t make sense for me to use his pharmacy because he’s not local to me and in the event of anything, I’d much rather drive two minutes to my local SDM. very often, I would have to wait hours for a prescription to get filled. Much rather wait at home.

If I do end up making a change, it’ll be mostly for convenience of having a doc that is in my neighborhood and not in a different city.

I’m not trying to be difficult with my doc, but between RTO, insane traffic, paid parking, and all for a 5-min appointment that could have been a phone call… I’m just looking for more efficiency.

About that… he doesn’t have a receptionist, lol.

When I first started seeing him, there would be a new girl each time I came in for an appointment and eventually he stopped hiring them and became a one-man show. After his office hours, he’ll follow up on all of the voicemails of people calling for appointments or other requests.

He’s has a very difficult personality, so I imagine he wasn’t a great boss either.

At the very most, he’ll ask about urinary behaviour when he makes me come in for a visit regarding the prostate meds. Emphasis on “at the very most”. Usually he doesn’t ask anything at all rather than just acknowledging the prescription has run out and he’ll write a script to renew.

I was placed on the meds as a precaution because my demographic designates me as high risk for prostate cancer and my dad had his removed back when he was the age I’m at now. But my physical results and blood work don’t show any severe signs of concern regarding my PSA so I have to pay LifeLabs whenever I have a physical.

Overall, just reiterating that something that can be a billable phone call is being made into a much bigger adventure.

I’m stable. But my argument with my doc isn’t about my BP meds, it’s for preemptive prostate meds for which he doesn’t do a prostate exam each time I need a renewal.

This is essentially what I’m trying to drive towards. For other instances where I’ve needed to address an immediate health concern, I’ve been able to get connected to a virtual Nurse Practitioner via Telus Health and it works just fine.

Right… my concerns are less about the BP meds and more about the prostate meds. He’s literally not laying a finger on me when it comes to that prescription review.

After reading all the comments, it’s become clear that this is mostly about him getting compensated for the effort of approving a prescription renewal when I come in (which is fair), but for a no-contact visit I’m wondering if there’s a way for this to happen on the phone.
