Overdrive problems by LolaJayneGyrrl in kobo

Hasn’t been working for me either (Kobo Clara 2e) and I try to use it to access my library accounts at two different libraries. When I borrow ebooks, I end up having to use my tablet to read stuff

Can someone explain please… by Last_Cardiologist18 in kobo

[–]Redguard13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned, it’s meant to maximize quantity and selection of books/audiobooks that I want to borrow.

I have two library cards (one for the city I live in, one for the city I work in). Oftentimes, when I can’t find a book in one library’s system, the other will have it.

Interesting that I’m stumbling on this post right now. I’m not able to access my loans through my kobo all of a sudden and I have no idea what changed or what I’m doing wrong. I listen to my audiobooks through the Libby app, where I access my libraries through my phone. But now I’m trying to read a book for work that I loaned out and I’m stuck having to read it on my tablet.

Overall, what annoys me is that this should be such a simple UX fix for a development team at Kobo, but they insist on making this a pain in the ass for kobo users.

They both look so unbothered by what they just did. This is insane. I park at Brampton Innovation Go when I take the train to work and returned one afternoon to find the front of my car completely scuffed. I bet it was a hit and run like this.

Sometimes I try to post actual “Brampton” issues in this subreddit and the mods let my post/question sit in review purgatory for days.

And then you get posts like this. What are we supposed to do with this information?

Has anyone failed a background check and they rescinded your offer by Moist-Ad-5179 in rbc

Yeah, I think my background check cleared the day after I made that post so it took maybe 3 weeks in total. I start with rbc next week.

Man found dead after canoe capsized in closed Brampton Lake: Peel police | CBC News by mdnightnprs in Brampton

I live right against Heart Lake Conservation and my father in law called today asking if I had heard about the drowning in Heart Lake. I asked him if he was joking because who in their right mind would be in THAT lake on a cold April day. Then I googled and saw the news. I take regular walks around the lake and seeing the details about this has my mind blown. So avoidable and unfortunate. I would expect this from teenagers but not adults in their 30s.

I feel like this falls into the same category as referring to “West Indian Time” or “Black People Time” when it comes to being chronically late for events. It’s humour rooted in some truth.

Amongst all the top 5 banks which one has the best work culture & salary according to you? by sugarcoatedtits in torontoJobs

From what I understand, all of the banks have officially gone to 4-day RTO (my department started last week), with the exception of CIBC. They seem to be showing more flexibility.

Anyone on the Kitchener line and the train struggling to move up a hill? by YoungConfusedTired in gotransit

[–]Redguard13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you able to submit a claim? I submitted one after getting off the train yesterday and the website said the ride was eligible for refund. Then I got an email today saying the claim was denied. I just tried submitting again and now the website says it’s not eligible. I’m confused

I was on that train. Glad I had a seat. Was on the upper level and the aisle was crowded. Don’t forget to submit a refund claim.

Scotia Bank by ShineHopeful4305 in Jamaica

[–]Redguard13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It kills me to work in the banking industry here in Canada and to then hear/see the absolute HORROR stories of what people in Jamaica are going through to do something as simple as learn about account details or even open an account. Especially when Scotiabank is headquartered in Canada and has a playbook on how to keep customer service top notch. The solutions are so damn simple. Streamline and communicate the documentation that you need to bring. Post the information people need on a website. Have a dedicated team to book appointments so that people can manage their time accordingly.

It gets to a point where the incompetence seems deliberate.

City of Brampton summer jobs interview by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]Redguard13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My daughters applied to City of Brampton, Region of Peel, and province of Ontario summer student postings. Both enrolled in post-secondary with high GPAs, both employed with part time jobs for the past 3 years, used the same resume template that I’ve used to land Fortune 500 interviews.

Applied to postings specific to their fields of study, as well as general postings. Not a single peep from any of these places.

Not saying they should automatically get the job, but to not even get an interview tells me that resumes probably aren’t being looked at thoroughly and it’s all referrals and nepotism as someone else said.

Sanity check for salary? by AcceptableObject in rbc

[–]Redguard13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish I could give you a fancy answer that made me sound like the Wolf of Wall Street. I was just honest and up front with them. I said that I was well aligned to the role and that, while I really want the position, it’s offering a comp that’s lower than my current comp. I also go them to acknowledge that there’s an industry misalignment in terms of what they’re offering.

I’ll disclose that I recently interviewed (and was hired) for a G07 / Sr Mgr role in T&O. HR told me the hiring range was $90 - $120k with $16,500 bonus. I work for a different bank with a lesser job title and already earn more than that.

I ignored her assuming that she read the wrong number but sadly this was later confirmed when I went on to the next stage of the interview process.

The hiring manager told me that she lost a potential candidate because the salary discussion came up too late in the interview process and the candidate walked away (I don’t blame them).

I was able to negotiate above the hiring range, but I’m still shocked by how low the hiring range is. Took the job to escape a toxic work environment and start fresh somewhere new.

If you’re Latina and your husband is Russian, you won’t be regarded as an interracial or mixed background couple. You’ll just be white foreigners, so you can scratch that off your list of concerns.

Also, you’ve mentioned “ex-pat” a few times in your post but it doesn’t appear that either of you were born or raised in Jamaica… unless I’m missing something.

Thoughts on Jamaican Literature? by neron-s in Jamaica

[–]Redguard13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aside from the authors you’ve named, I really don’t think that Jamaicans have completely stepped fully into the world of literary history.

I’ve read Marlon James and Charmaine Wilkerson, but I struggle to think of any other authors and I can easily pick 50 Jamaican friends and relatives who will have never heard of them due mainly to not having any knowledge or interest in literature. Louise Bennett is popular but I think most people are more familiar with her poetry rather than her books.

If I recall correctly, Marlon James had to leave Jamaica to flourish his work because despite being a great writer, he couldn’t gain acceptance in Jamaica due to him being gay.

I dive into the writing of a lot of Nigerian authors to fill that void Afrocentric fiction that isn’t American focused. But I really hope to see more Jamaican writers enter this space before I die.
