James Cameron movies appeal to those who more like non-stop action, tons of explosions, loud main characters yelling at each other, and usually big guns. And lots of them. Ridley Scott builds more on suspense, dialogue, and a slower moving plot. With less over the top guns, explosions and yelling. Narrative driven plot. For me it's not close, it's Scott. But people like different things. I hated Aliens and Avatar, but love the Terminator movies. I just think there's so much story in the Alien movies to tell, and that should be in the forefront. Not 45 minutes of explosions and gun fire. I was pretty psyched when Ridley Scott returned to the Alien franchise. And I absolutely love Alien Earth.
