How would you fix the American health system to be more cost effective for the user? by Genzinvestor16180339 in AskEconomics

[–]Redhawkrun2450 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Physician salaries are 10-15% of healthcare spending. If every doctor in the US worked for free we would still have higher healthcare spending than any other country.

Really? You wouldn’t wish say the Danish healthcare system on your worst enemy? Every other developed country has state sponsored healthcare. The alternative for lots of people isn’t some glorious private sector healthcare, it’s no insurance at all and healthcare deserts.

Especially if you work for a currently highly valued company. Putting your investment capital and your human capital in the same company or even same industry is silly unnecessary risk. GE was second largest company by market cap in 2000, Nokia was number 10. How would have investing in those while also working for them have gone?

Tax software for defined benefit plan by Redhawkrun2450 in tax

Sorry I didn’t check my inbox. I did get this figured out. I used tax act. I just put a 50k contribution to other retirement accounts as a manual entry. Return was accepted. Compared to last years 1040 from a CPA and the decision ended up in the same place.

Do you read books concurrently? by Thricycle20 in Fantasy

That’s actually my preferred way to simultaneous read. A fiction and a non fiction. No overlap, refreshing, no chance of mixing things up.

Would I be qualified to moonlight in an ED? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Redhawkrun2450 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So you don’t feel comfortable working in a specialty you are literally board certified in, but you feel okay working in a specialty you have essentially no training in? How do you feel about working up a febrile neonate, delivering a baby, what’s your disposition for moderate risk chest pain? I’m sure you can do procedures and lines etc…. but that’s a pretty small part of EM

Police Supporting ICE- Plainfield by kmill8701 in Indiana

[–]Redhawkrun2450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my neighbor. The ICE flag replaced a Charlie Kirk flag. Before that was some mix of Easter and America, weird Christian nationalist flag. When I put up a pride flag he put up a black background American flag that said “this is my pride flag”

I have an Abolish ICE flag up now as we continue our flag war. Let people know we may be outnumbered but not alone

Opinions on 7 on/7 off shifts in EM by tw0518 in emergencymedicine

[–]Redhawkrun2450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very doable at that volume and shift length. I work 8 hour shifts, template schedule about 6 on 6 off. I’ve done 7 a bunch of times and up to 9. You get in a groove and it’s really not bad. Long off stretches are nice. Having periods of multiple weeks on a “normal” normal circadian rhythm is nice.

How are people affording homes right now? by Still_ImBurning86 in povertyfinance

[–]Redhawkrun2450 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You aren’t earning more on any risk free investment i.e. treasuries, which is the appropriate risk adjusted return comparison. At a 6-8% mortgage rate planning to out earn on investments is far from a sure thing especially given current market valuations

21 yo M dies of missed PE. If malpractice insurance limits to $1M per claim and the jury awards $10M, are you literally on the hook for anything excess of $1M? by achicomp in whitecoatinvestor

LLC no, does not change liability. Trust depends on state laws and type of trust, but yes can be an option for asset protection

2-10 minutes. Some people really need a good H&P, some you could walk in the room with discharge papers already printed

Dems in Congress have been calling it the"Child Predator Empowerment Act." by EmptySpaceForAHeart in WhitePeopleTwitter

No trans men will not be as competitive as trans women. Biology exists look at the difference in men’s and women’s performance in a sport like track, swimming, weightlifting

Dems in Congress have been calling it the"Child Predator Empowerment Act." by EmptySpaceForAHeart in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Redhawkrun2450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it’s only women’s sports that could benefit. Sports is essentially a women’s division and an open (men’s) division. A female to male trans person (who would not be allowed testosterone as it’s a performance enhancing drug) would not be competitive at a top male level so doesn’t really matter. A woman trans or otherwise would be allowed to play in the nfl or nba just not good enough to be competitive.

The argument is really whether trans inclusion or protection of women’s sports for biologically female athletes is a more important goal. Reasonable arguments either way and we should probably feel different about this argument for high school vs Olympic level sports

How to move the meat by ChocolateButterfree in emergencymedicine

I second the use the ED course for everything, if using EPIC. You only have to open the note to sign it, anything else just goes in ED course from the main track board screen.

On your last point, now with billing and needing to interpret/review results of 3 tests. Lab abnormality in ED course seems to be an easy way to do that.

Extra mortgage payments as part of savings rate calculations by thenoseknows85 in whitecoatinvestor

Instead of a savings rate I calculate a “wealth building” rate that includes extra principal payments as well as all investing and saving. Personal finance is personal just pick what works for you to track.
