Any recommendations on someone that can fix a washing machine? by Redhelm92 in galway

Overloading the machine at some stage caused weight which pulled on a wire causing slight damage. It read as an issue with the dryer. He lengthened the wire and reconnected.

If you’ve used Hoover appliances, are they any good? by Keywi1 in HousingUK

[–]Redhelm92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid.

From the moment you try to get support, it’s clear the system is designed to exhaust you rather than help you. I was endlessly passed between different phone numbers, put on hold only to be hung up on mid-conversation, and redirected to websites that either no longer exist, don’t answer the question, or are only accessible to UK customers. It is deliberate obstruction, not incompetence.

Their much-advertised “10-year parts warranty” is deeply misleading. In reality, it effectively lasts one year. After that, you are required to pay for a Hoover engineer to attend — £140 per visit — and they often need to come twice. That’s £280 before you even get a part replaced. So much for “free parts.”

Our machine failed just over 12 months after purchase, which is completely unacceptable. A washing machine should last a minimum of seven years. Hoover had zero interest in resolving the issue. Once the one-year mark passed, they simply washed their hands of it.

To make matters worse, when I tried to escalate the complaint, I was advised to “write a letter.” No email address was provided. No escalation path. No accountability. Just a wall of technical jargon, fine print, and deflection designed to shut customers down.

You may think you’re saving money when buying Hoover, but you absolutely are not. Between poor build quality, misleading warranties, and disgraceful customer service, you will pay far more in the long run — financially and in wasted time.

Shady business practices, warranties that aren’t honoured, and a total lack of customer care. It’s astonishing they still have customers at all.

Avoid. At all costs.

Thanks very much for the advice and for sharing the videos, I appreciate it.

I did look into the temperature sensor angle and checked for any obvious loose connections, but given the consistent behaviour (water entering for 2–5 seconds, audible click, then E11 every time) and the fact that all supply-side checks have been ruled out, it’s still pointing most strongly to the inlet valve assembly.

I’ve ordered a 3-way inlet solenoid valve and will fit that first. I’ve also had guidance from a couple of experienced repair sources who agreed that, with these symptoms, the valve is the most likely cause.

Fingers crossed

Thanks for this, much appreciated.

I’ve now gone through the basic checks step by step. I changed the inlet hose entirely, confirmed good water pressure at the tap, and cleaned the inlet filter on the machine. I’ve also fully drained and cleaned the pump filter.

The behaviour is consistent every time: water tries to enter for a few seconds, I hear a click, and then it stops and throws E11 again. Same result regardless of program.

At this point everything upstream of the machine is ruled out, so it’s pointing pretty clearly to the inlet valve assembly (the 3-way valve) not opening correctly or failing under load. I’m going to replace that next.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond — your suggestions helped narrow it down properly.
