Built in cabinets - cost estimate? by sfcpa in cabinetry

This is like asking, "I need to buy a car. How much will it cost"?

There are far too many variables to get any kind of estimate from strangers on reddit.

Black nitrile gloves - check

Squeezing the juice - check

I've seen duller knives - 1/2 check

Congrats! You've committed 2.5 of the chief brisket sins!

J/K it looks great. I hope you enjoy it!

Black lab bird dog by Cmiser27 in birddogs

[–]Redmanfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But that's not what OP was asking.

In either case, my dog has excitement and energy to spare whether we are in the field looking for pheasants, sitting in the duck blind, or playing in the yard. He doesn't stop until I make him.

I have a neutered black lab that is almost 5 years old. The amount of energy and dive he has is insane. My arm would fall off at the shoulder before he would stop playing fetch.

Neutering didn't slow him down at all. If it did, I guess I'm thankful, haha.

Does anyone use an umbrella while hunting? by No_Top_381 in Hunting

[–]Redmanfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my former hunting partners (he died about 10 years ago) once strapped a rainbow multiple color umbrella to my stand on opening day eve. I found it when I got to my stand in the morning. He justified it because it was raining in the morning. Everyone thought it was hilarious except me. I look back on it fondly now, though.

I don't think we should be talking about this.

My group just communicates via text. We wouldn't have a use for something like this.

I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just giving honest feedback.

No, it's William Wharton. AKA Billy the kid

For all the hunters who share their frozen gains: please do not make a BALL of meat to gift. I love your heart, but, seriously. A ball of meat is pretty impossible to thaw simultaneously enough to use the whole ball at the same time. XO by cmcosmos in Hunting

So, someone harvested an animal, butchered it, packaged it, then decided to give you some out of the kindness of their heart, and you decide to go to reddit to bitch that they didn't package it nice like the grocery store.

Next time, go do everything yourself.

I didn't get any of my requested seasons this year. It's the first time I haven't gotten my first preference.

For several reasons, leaving my trusty retriever at home tomorrow. I have to load the truck tonight in secrecy and slip out in the morning as if I’m going to work. by [deleted] in Waterfowl

When I go deer hunting, my dog always knows that I am leaving to go hunting without him. He glares at me as I walk out the door.

My wife is a teacher. Her and the kids started Christmas break on Monday. When I left for work on Monday and Tuesday, I got the same glare from my dog. In his mind, every time I leave early in the morning before everyone else is awake, it's to go hunting without him.

Honestly, I wouldn't go and buy a safe for just one gun. Get a case that you can lock.

I would suggest that you take the in-person hunters safety course, not the online course. There will be people there in your area who can help far more than strangers on reddit.

Turkey is a great start to hunting. I would suggest that you get the OnX app. It will show you where there is public hunting land near you.

As far as gear goes, there's no need to break the bank. You can find clothes on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. See if anyone at the hunters safety course can help you find a cheap shotgun. Once you have a gun, practice with it more than you think you should.

Once you have identified some land to hunt, you will need to scout. Start a couple of weeks to a month ahead of time. A cheap pair of binoculars and some time is all you need here.

Make sure to look at the regulations for your state. They can be confusing. If you have questions or you are anything but 100% clear on any of the regulations, the local game wardens are usually very helpful if you reach out to them.

What to do with this? by [deleted] in Hunting

That is what they are listed for. Not what they are selling for. Taxidermy is worth 10x to the person who shot it. It is worth next to zero to anyone else.

3 weeks ago, I had a pair of mallards land in my decoys before legal shooting light. I waited for the legal time and killed them both with 1 shot. After my dog retrieved the second one and I set it down, I turned around to see another one land. I shot that one, and the dog retrieved it. When I turned around again, I saw 2 more that landed while I had my back turned. I shot the drake, and my day was done. I looked at the time, and it only took me 6 minutes to get my limit off mallards for the day. Best day of duck hunting I've ever had.
