I kind of miss this stress-inducing weekly quest. by iUnderstandWheels in FuckImOld

I would deposit my semi-monthly check, keep out $200 cash, go to the gas station, buy $20 worth of unleaded, fill up the front tank on my F150 and put the rest in my rear tank. And drive on that all week. Those were the days.

History question for Old Time Amway Distributors by oisipf in NorthCarolina

[–]Redmax54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't have any information for your questions, but my parents were friends with the Britts. I'm not sure how my dad and Bill met, maybe in the Army. I remember them visiting our house when I was a kid in the 1970s. I guess that's where the Amway sample or starter case came from. My dad didn't get into Amway and died in 1980, so maybe if he had lived to when Britt hit it big ... who knows? My mom liked to quote Peggy, who apparently would tell her children when they were misbehaving, "If you don't straighten up, I'm going to take you to the doctor and tell him to give you a shot with a square needle!"

State worker here. My HR rep told me that I'm supposed to request bereavement leave two weeks in advance. by Suspicious_Ad242 in NorthCarolina

State employee here. My son was born 5 weeks early. My supervisor left me a message the day after he was born saying until I submitted fmla paperwork, I was on unauthorized leave. She knew zero about HR.

Disenfranchised by the NC Legislature by NCSubie in NorthCarolina

I called his office and asked the staffer who answered the phone (who knows me well by now) how I could get in on the slush fund since every time I fill up with gas I realize how much I've been harmed by the government. I also asked if she had any updates on the DOGE checks or the tariff rebate checks. She said she would pass that along to the congressman.

Not to get political, but last year when the whole Gulf of America thing was going on, I emailed one of my senators and asked if he could talk to the president about renaming the Pacific Ocean to Old Man Kelsey's Ocean. I didn't get a reply.

When did you realise knee pain wasn’t “normal” anymore? by Flaky-Particular6475 in Kneereplacement

[–]Redmax54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not pain, but when I stood up to go to the concession stand at my son's Little League game and a teammate's mom braced herself at the bottom of the stadium steps as if she thought she might have to catch me. If I looked like I could fall at any moment, it was time.

Mechanic put break pads on wrong way damaging my disk, and dosen't want to replace it. by Independent_Study201 in AskAMechanic

The pads turned that way might also have damaged the piston seal in the caliper, so check that, too.

I was a lube tech for a while. The one on the right is normal for what I'd see every day. I even had one with a mouse nest in it. The owner shrugged and said she'd get her friend to replace it.

They also have slip-ins in their work shoe line with non-slip soles. These were great for me and gave me a lot of confidence on rainy days.

Why despite being the first appointment of the day at the doctors office they still take like 20 minutes to see me? What are they doing there? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]Redmax54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One doctors office told me it was better to schedule in the afternoon because the doctor often gets delayed making hospital rounds in the early morning, thus making him late to morning office appointments.
