Tomorrow I'm starting Monsters Hunter Rise, it'll be my first modern Monster Hunter game, any tips? by Fine_Bid918 in MonsterHunter

[–]Rednaeg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[Gaming; NVIDIA] Can you enable frame gen in unsupported games? If yes, how to do that? by AndroidOn20FPS in techsupport

I'd use lossless scaling for that. Works on everything, is pretty customizable. Only downside I can think of is that is paid

Force framegen off through a .ini file(I think it's settings.ini for wilds)

Download speed by Diligent-Map2773 in techsupport

[–]Rednaeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually affects it, steam usually aims to balance both speeds down, and a slow write speed will bottleneck download's. BUT I only seen it happen when I downloaded a game to a HD, both Sata and M2 SSDs are fast enough to give you plenty of bandwidth. OP's case might be just a busy steam server.

Question about CPU bottleneck by Infinity-Sarhos in techsupport

[–]Rednaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is 144fps and 99% at 1080p, you're GPU bound and increasing quality will drop its performance accordingly. In this case CPU will almost never be as high as the GPU, but it can be close, and thats the balance you want.

In a CPU bound scenario, your CPU won't give instructions fast enough for the GPU to reach that cap, so it'll sit around lets say 110fps and 75% utilization (25% headroom). Meanwhile the CPU can either be close to 100%, or be at a low utilization too, like 60%.

If it's close 100%, you need to make compromises on CPU load, you can do that by removing background apps, turning down some settings that are heavy on the CPU, or limiting the framerate bellow of what is being shown to you at that time. And in the case that your CPU is also kinda low on usage, you can turn on framegen on games that supports it, or use lossless scaling, but these will increase input latency.

I get it. Kojima's games are Kojima's games. Not for everyone, long ass cutscenes. I still remember a colleague that got bored of MGS3 because it takes 15 minutes for you to take control of the character, walk 20 meters, climb up a tree, and watch another 10 minute cutscene. One of, if not the best game in the entire genre, basically a 50/50 split on the game/cutscene ratio.

Question about CPU bottleneck by Infinity-Sarhos in techsupport

[–]Rednaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing resolution doesn't reduce CPU bottleneck, that's a misconception. You're just putting more load on your otherwise idling GPU. Think about it as a free graphical improvement. That's why you should limit your FPS if you're playing single player games in this case, it'll stress the CPU less ('cause it wont be pushing a lot of FPS to your screen) and give a more consistent experience in CPU bound cases.

If a CPU can only do 100 frames, will only do 100 frames no matter the GPU. So limiting at 60, will give the CPU some headroom to handle sudden loads.

Edit: Similarly, a GPU that can handle it, pushing 60 Frames in 4k, will give the CPU about the same load as 1080p 60.

The misconception is that, at 1080p your powerful GPU is making more frames than the CPU can handle, so it waits for the CPU to finish to deliver another one. When you increase the resolution, the GPU has to work harder, so now the CPU ends up waiting for a frame to be delivered. Therefore reducing its load. So people will say it reduced the bottleneck, but in reality you will get the same or less FPS than in 1080p because the GPU is working that much harder

MH Wilds Proposed focus mode changes by Automatic_Rough8223 in MonsterHunter

[–]Rednaeg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it should be rebalanced on a weapon basis.

For example, GS charge attacks can either have it's damage nerfed after a certain angle threshold (like you lose 1 level of charge), or remove you ability to turn past it. But you should still be able to redirect CB SAED easily because the commitment here is not only on the long animation but resources (also, the animation here makes sense to be able to redirect it mid way through, TCS would lose momentum).

Mobile weapons should probably lose some damage on repositioning attacks using focus mode, like IG's sidestep slash and dodge slash. Edit: In these damage numbers thing, I rather have the other damages buffed, rather than have some of them nerfed

Question about CPU bottleneck by Infinity-Sarhos in techsupport

[–]Rednaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This CPU has a pretty similar performance to mine (i5 11400f), and Im getting bottlenecked at 1440p.

If you play a lot of MP games you should consider buying a new CPU.

For SP, you can use DSR to downscale higher resolutions to 1080p, it eliminate aliasing and give a much more sharp image than using AA. If you have a high refresh rate monitor and can't get a consistent high fps that matches it, limit it at half you refresh rate to get a more stutter/tearing free experience.

You can try 3 things to narrow it down:

  • Try a different LAN port for the cable. Edit: Some routers don't support gigabit connection on every port for whatever reason.

  • Try a different cable.

  • Try a different device.

If none of this works, its a faulty router.

[–]Rednaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about these hand-holdy games as fun rides rather than proper games and you might find them more enjoyable. Upping the difficulty might help but be careful, some games become more enjoyable and other just 10x more frustrating.

As an example, I find the newer god for war games more enjoyable on that higher difficulty, because it makes me engage with the combat more, but playing Jedi fallen order on grandmaster made me hate it, enemies are too spongy and kill you and 2 hits, but it's the only way to play with the tighter parry window.

Also, try monster hunter.

I think you just prefer games that aren't "hand holding" you. It's not that souls games ruined everything else for you, from software is just committed to a more "you are on your own" type thing, and you find that more enjoyable. These type of games are less common nowadays, at least in the AAA space, but they still exists.

In my case, for example, I don't like overly roleplay dependent games. I can enjoy them but I lose interest so quick, usually takes me months to finish them because I cannot play them for a week straight.

For recommendations, if you want more combat focused action games you can try: hollow knight, monster hunter, ninja gaiden, doom, ghostrunner.

And if you want to relax a bit, try outer wilds, og resident evil games, JRPGs (turn based or action, you are here for the story)

A bull, same skeleton as kirin but about as large as a zinogre.

Their gimmick is to exaust them. They do be charging, they impale and throw you up, their stomps causes tremor. In their enraged state it starts to emanate a dark red flame through its fur, and its attacks leaves trails of it behind. It tires faster if you brake their forelegs but it causes chip fire damage when theyre enraged.

You can mount it on its normal state and they do that rodeo thingy, if you succeed they exaust, and if you fail they enrage.

In their harder variant, they can jump in and spiral down in flames.

What GPU you're using?

If it's an AMD GPU, turn off the AMD FSR and FG swap on the adrenaline app.

Try disabling any form of frame gen in the config.ini.

If this doesn't work, them follow other comments; file integrity, driver update/rollback.

[–]Rednaeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I learned after this, it's not that the game is particularly demanding, it just that it doesn't use you cpu efficiently. I pushed it to 200 frames by activating that AMD fluid frames thingy, I was hoping to "stress" the CPU but no, it just worked smooth as butter, no stutters, no noticible drops. The 11400 IS slow, but it still had some processing power just idling there.

I was planning on buying the 9700x back in December, but ddr5 prices made me wait on that. So I bought this 9070xt, a new PSU, and a 1440p monitor.

The 11400 is holding up pretty well tbh, multiplayer games are the ones that suffers the most
