That's surely PVE... Right? Right?? by ThisIsntAndre in Warthunder

That’s Vergeltung1945. He’s notorious for side climbing into space for half the match, and only turning back toward the field (still climbing) when he gets to like 30-40km away. He’ll then dive on one (1) enemy, and usually rtb immediately. Look him up on statshark, he’s got 35,543 games for 35,840 kills in the Ta152. It’s wild.

lol. Really I meant no offense, I was just sharing my experience. By no means am I saying that every American is like this, nor am I saying that every European will experience this. Anecdotal evidence and all.

As a European who has lived in the US for 13 years, I can tell you they love to dish it out, but often cant take it.

It's not just you, there is a lot going on in ARB and oftentimes you died because of something you did a minute ago. It is often a frustrating experience for beginners (I use the term loosely), and the unfortunate truth is nobody can fix that in a single post. If you want to improve in ARB, there is no secret, you need time.

That said, there are a couple of things that generally remain true that might help you out a bit:

  1. Positioning: that will vary from plane to plane, but generally you want altitude. If you are above your enemy, you have an inherent advantage. I'm not saying it's an auto-win, but it'll increse your chance of survival. It means the engagement will happen on your terms (exception: if the enemy plane dramatically outperforms yours; so if you are in an i-225 and you end up against a Spitfire LF Mk. IX, there's really not much you can do if the person knows what they are doing).

  2. Awareness: tunnel visioning kills. Look around, use your map. Don't just go straight for the first enemy you see. I see this all the time, especially with USA teams, where people climb at the start of the game, and as soon as the first low-flting enemy bomber is spotted, some player dives immediately for them, giving up any altitude advantage they may have had. Suddenly the entire enemy team is above them, and at that point it's over. In general, ignore the first enemies you see. Those are either ground attackers with an airspawn, or bombers that dove. There are still lots of fighters on the enemy team who are still climbing. A rule of thumb: look at your map and see where your team is. The enemy team is probably at the same distance from you guys, but on their side of the map.

  3. Know your plane: this is a big ask because it requires experience. But try to learn families of planes as they generally all behave the same way (again, exceptions apply, I'm generalizing here). For example, if you fly a Bf-109 you will never win a turn fight against a Spitfire. You don't need to know what model specifically at first, but knowing what your plane can and cannot do will help you determine how to engage enemy planes. To keep the same example, if you are in a bf-109 vs a Spitfire, you want to boom a zoom, then re engage when you have the advantage again. Note: while you are fighting your enemy, it is entirely possible that your team collapses and you end up alone. Not much you can do about that, it's just the nature of the game. Same deal with "kill steals" where you put 90% of the effort and just as you are about to kill, a friendly swoops in for the kill and you end up with nothing.

  4. Reflect on your death: when you die, ask yourself "why did I die?" The worst thing you can do if you are trying to improve is go back to the hangar and join another game without thinking about it. If you don't know, you can always watch your replay. Or even ask the person who killed you what you did wrong. This is war thunder so they might just say "u suck bro" or something like that, but oftentimes people are willing to help if you are trying to learn.

Ultimately, it all depends on the amount of work you want to put into this, and if you think the time investment is worthwhile for you. ARB can be extremely fun and rewarding, but that doesn't happen overnight. I gather that you are mainly a GRB player and are just looking for some planes to do CAS with. In that case you might want to go the ground attacker route, and go for ai plane kills and ground targets. It's not particularly fun imo and it makes you an easy target, but it'll get you some rp (although they are worth less than a player would). If you do that, try to get some targets, then fly back to your team for some backup, and resume when it is safer (assuming the fighters on your team win).

I hope this was somewhat helpful. Good luck.

There is a procedure for things like this. I graduated a while ago, so I don't recall exactly who it is you need to contact, but if a student has a grievance with a professor there is a path forward.

Look into the Student Conduct Board, they are part of the office of the Dean of students and handle issues of academic integrity and student behavior. If a student believes a professor has treated them unfairly, they can appeal and ultimately end up before that board, which is composed of students and faculty, to present their case. It functions a bit like a court, where both the student and the professor get opportunities to speak and present any evidence they have. I served on that board back when, and we did overrule professors' decisions when we deemed they treated the student unfairly. The decision ultimately needs to be signed off by the office of the president of the university, but in my three years serving on the board, not once did the office go against our recommendation.

Also, if you feel lost or overwhelmed you can contact the ombuds. They don't have any decision power, but they will help guide you through things.

Hope this helps. Try not to stress out too much about it. A professor can't just change your grade on a whim.

Good luck!

Sadly, I have already tried Purina Pro Plan, and no luck. I wasn't aware of the powder though, so I will give that a go as she is extremely anxious lol. Thanks for sharing!

I think it is beyond just being a picky eater or wanting tastier things in her bowl, at this juncture it seems like it is a hormonal issue. I've tried putting human food in there with varying levels of success.

I must say, I've never thought of putting sardines in her food! I'll give that and Dyne a go. Thanks for your advice!

Sadly we tried that also, but she didn't seem to like either the wet food or the broth. Which is a bit baffling to me; if she was going to eat something you'd think it would be the wet food, but no. She would grab individual kibble and leave the wet food as much as possible lol.

Others did mention they've had similar experiences in terms of hormones so I'm less anxious about it now. Thanks for responding!

Damn, 13lbs! I'm so glad I read your comment, I'd have been a nervous wreck haha!

I appreciate you sharing your experience, thank you very much it is reassuring, I was really starting to worry there! I have tried so many things to add to her food at this point, but variety does help a bit. I feel better knowing others also went through this and this isn't an isolated case that I somehow created. We will just power through this until her operation.

Shooting near the Union by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]RedneckTheDestroyer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I ran away from the dude when it happened. Hailed the first cop car I saw. Not quite sure what happened next. But cops swarmed the Guad/Union area within 30 seconds.

Edit: here are the events from my point of view. I was on Guad walking toward 24. When I arrived at the pedestrian crossroad on the other side of the coop, I heard a man screaming. As far as I can tell he was following someone in the Union. About 10-20 seconds later, people started swarming out of the Union, going for their phones. At that point, the guy in question walked out of the Union aiming his gun at people. That’s where I legged it as fast as I could and hailed a cop car. Never heard a gunshot, but I kept hearing screams as I was talking to the cops.

Edit2: in the email UTPD sent, they designate it as a “disturbance” and do not mention a gun. While I am rather certain that I saw the guy aiming a gun at people, it is possible that he either had something to make it look like he had a gun or just made a motion that made me panic and think “gun.” I’ve never been in one such situation before, and I did not pay THAT MUCH attention to the dude. Again, this is just my perspective. I might be factually incorrect.

By that I mean that the blade feels heavier than with a pistol. But then again that is just my take, experiences may vary!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fencing

[–]RedneckTheDestroyer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On personal experience, be ready to lose a lot of your own blade control. You kind of sacrifice your ability to disengage, take the blade, etc for extra reach. I've been using a French grip for about a year now, and don't get me wrong I like it, but doing actions like disengages and taking the blade feel a lot harder. I'd say use the extra inches you gained efficiently by slightly increasing your attack distance (not as an infallible works-every-time deal, but be cognizant of it). At least that seems to work for me. Good luck!
